View Full Version : Joyce gets the axe

I was in Key Biscane today and everyone noticed that Marias coach Mike Joyce that has been with them for 3 years was replaced. There is no word on who was with her. Allthough it was heard her hitting partner couldn't make a ball in the court. Yuri apparrently told the hitting partner that he would only be making 2 dollars a day if he was in Russia and if one more ball was missed he would get axed with no money or food. I guess there is no such thing as loyalty when a bad match is played i guess. Its really a shame because Maria would be nowhere if it wasn't for Mikes brillance.

Yuri Yuri Yuri................. (sigh)

Treating people like means to an end instead of an end in themselves will only cause Masha to suffer in the long run

P.S. I like the name, Man-Child; it's a word that is severely underused

yeah  I don't think that they'd let him go after all that he's done for her.

If Michael Joyce did get the axe, that may be a good thing. If the best he can do when she's struggling is to yell at her and say "FIND A WAY TO WIN" when he gets a chance to coach during a match, then I have a feeling she could find a better coach. And maybe a coach that wouldn't have allowed a couple of matches with the yips on serve to turn in to a three tournament long stretch of the yips by one of the best servers in the game. And if indeed the hitting partner couldn't keep a ball in the court, then yes, he needs to be axed too.

Players often change their coaches:shrug: Monica went through loads after her comeback.

why sack the coach when it is the player that loses?

why sack the coach when it is the player that loses?

can an employee fire his employer...?

the best way out of shame for M Joyce to do is annoucne her resignation before Yuri officially held a press con....

Its really a shame because Maria would be nowhere if it wasn't for Mikes brillance.I'm assuming that's sarcasm. I hope she did fire the fat fuck; he was useless. She should hire someone who can teach her, and someone who has actually won something, like, say, Navratilova.

not sure how to feel. just hope it all benefits masha. wish maybe it didn't happen right at the start of this event just so she can stay calm and not have reporters asking her questions. if she loses early that'll probably be why though. hard to stay focused and play good tennis with a coach leaving, it's emotional for the players too.

If this is true, hopefully they find a coach soon... b/c Yuri is not a coach & will make a struggling situation worse..

uhm, well i dont see why masha couldnt just hire a really good coach.
maybe she and her father are hard to work with, but they've got lotsa money (uhm, well masha does) and its great media exposure :D

She definitely needs pointers from somebody, because she and her dad have gotten caught more than once. ;)

Sharapova is the biggest player on the tour. Well, the biggest good player anyway. She's tall, she's got wide shoulder, and she hits the hell out of the ball. This serving thing will pass, Mike Joyce or no Mike Joyce. And when it's all over, to beat her, you'll have to be faster than her, and hit nearly as hard, or harder. This is Shakespearian. As in 'Much Ado About Nothing'.
