Serena!

Yeah the draw sucks. Especially the first 1/4. But let's just say Venus and Serena both win and they have to play eachother. Who Would Win?

I'm going to say Serena but...Venus did win Memphis in very convincing form....But it was only a Tier 3 (I think). And Serena did win the Australian Open...but that was way back in January. It's a tough call...but im gonna go with Serena. She lost last time and she will secretly be looking for revenge.

I hate when they have to play eachother....

I don't think who won what title is important when it comes to Venus and Serena, it's about their forms. Based on Venus' Memphis final and Serena's AO open final form I couldn't tell you who would win they were both good. Serena said that she was getting her butt kicked by Venus before the AO open and when during Venus' first few rounds people couldn't believe she was beating Serena until Venus played her final. Once Venus played that final one could understand why Venus was winning in practice. With that said I don't know who would win.

It could go either way. The way Venus played Peer in that final was great. Serena could have problems facing that. Something tells me that Venus isn't fooling around this year. I hope I'm right. If Venus beats Maria in the third round then Serena better watch out. But you always have to choose Serena as a default. Serena is a lot better than the last could of times they played where Venus won.

I have a feeling Venus is gonna play very well in this tournament. I hope she wins it all.

If she meets Serena in the 4th round: Venus in 3 sets.

Best of luck Venus!!! :wavey:  :wavey:

Who knows, but let's hope they bring their bests against each other. If they both hit the ball like they were hitting in their last respective matches then we'll have a cracker.

I just get the feeling that Venus is gonna win against Serena (if they do meet that is). I really dunno why, probably because she is determined to win a big title like Miami whereas Serena has already won a big one this year at the AO. But i mean really it's hard to pick a winner between the two of them since their both in great form, so who knows.

Let's also remember that while Venus is a loving, caring and warm older sister, she is also competitive and has her own pride. She did not appreciate or appreciates losing to baby sis who's always looked up to her.

Big sis isn't likely to give lil sis a wooping then again as lil sis said earlier this year she was giving her the woopings on the practice courts. :tape: So who knows?

It's gonna be tres upsetting to watch this match cos i simply dont knoe who i want to win. I think maybe Venus needs it more to climb the rankings to reach her french open goal but this tournament could put Serena back in the top 10 or thereabouts...i dunno...im consoling myself with the thought that lightning doesn't (SHOULDN'T) strike twice...so good luck for a better draw at the French, Charleston and Wimby...pretty assured they will have a deserved ranking come US open!

The only reason Serena lost those 2 matches was because she wasn't in as good of shape as she usually is, now that she's back to , she should be fine.

It really depends on who wants it more.

Right now, slight edge to Venus who has publicly (which she rarely does) stated her goal of getting into the top 16 by RG.

Serena played championship tennis at critical points in the Aus Open and then slaughtered the then world #1; Venus delivered a slaughter to a player that stretched Serena to the 3 tough sets at the Aus Open, is undefeated and won her first tournament back from the layoff. So hard to tell on form.

Therefore got to go with heart. Usually, Serena has the advantage here, but Venus has more to prove.

and fat, out of shape Serena had set point in both of the matches that she lost in '05, and Serena leads 3-1 (3 in a row) in 3 set matches against Venus.

Remember, Venus almost issued a bagel in that opening set and then Serena fought back in a close second set that ended in a tie-break. might see a Vee-peat of that result! and honestly, I'm ok with that. ;)

yeah but in 2005 she didnt slaughter the #1 player 6-1 6-2. and earlier that season she had retired in a match in Dubai because she was injured. now serena is (as of now) in full health and shes looking for revenge against her sister. i dunno...it'll be close

In 2005, she played a player with a serve, then bagel that player in the 3rd set..
2007, the player she played with had no serve at all...

she retired in Dubai because she was injured...
2007, she couldnt even participate in a tournament that she was committed to...

i dont think any disease could stop her from playing...
like in AO... she have lots of temptations to retiring..
diarrhea, flu... etc..
hopefully shes as healthy as she can be...
and Venus too..

I think that it would be Venus Williams in 2 easy sets...
She couldnt even handle a Venus Williams with NO backhand...
what more is she play with a Venus Williams whos lethal backhand
is back... with a controlled forehand...fast 1st serve...and hard-to-attack
2nd serve..!!

Serena's gotten MUCH better since then. I haven't seen Venus play that well for more than one match (not that she can't do it). Honestly (if she plays Maria) the 3rd round match should tell a lot about their respective forms...both matches should actually.

I think the fact that it wouldn't be a final certainly favors Venus. I think it depends on what perspective people take. So many people will come in here and automatically say that if Serena plays her best, she'll win, but I think the reverse of that is true. Serena has to play her best to beat Venus. I think their head to head proves this.

Why don't we just wait until/if they get there?too much fun speculating! :lick:

I've been waiting a while to see Venus return to the kind of tennis she played in the Memphis final.

We only saw it in one other tournament since her ab injury--Wimbledon 2005 There she served well (no break point faced in QF against Mary Pierce); she moved well (Maria hit forehands with her left hand more than we've ever seen in SF); and she fought to the end (snatched the trophy right out of Linds hands repeatedly in the longest Wimbledon women's final in history). In Memphis F, she served well, moved well, and was in a "take no prisoners" frame of mind not giving Peer an inch!
