Mary was 0-6 down in the third set tiebreak and still managed to win 8-6, with hitting some amazing winners, 7-5 4-6 7-6(6), and winning the tournament later :worship: :)
I hope she'll come back soon

Who could forget that? Amazing, first time i've ever seen anything like that. She never let up.......when she saved those 6 match points she was still hitting winners.

Moscow has had so many great matches over the years and this one is a classic. I really hoped elena would win this, because Mary has a chance to win a tournament very often, but Lena not really. I think she could have done it...

Lena :( Though I respect and like Mary very much. :)

If I recall well, there's only the tiebreaker in WMV, but you can hardly see the ball! Wonder if someone has it somewhere, and if he could upload it? Please....:worship:

That was the end of Elena's career. She is probably untouchable in the headcase department by any player. She just froze in important matches at time.

One of the most amazing tiebreaks in the history of tennis, if not the best one...

Mary is the player I miss the most... :sobbing:

Likhovtseva was so talented and had every shot in the book. Pity her head got in the way so much...

I felt so sorry for Elena considering that she played in her own country and lost like THIS :(
but all in all it was pretty incredible.. being 0/6 down in the final set and still managing to win the whole tournament! Mary :hearts:

Typical Mary. Staying calm and taking 100 years between points :hearts:

Likhovtseva played a good match, but she got to 6-0 in the TB all on Mary's silly errors. So it's kind of fitting that Mary stormed back and reclaimed those points with winners, showing that the outcome of the match was mostly on her racquet anyway.

Poor Elena though. You could see the wheels start to fall off at 6-4 when took a breath and slammed the ball down  Then that cry of anguish at 6-5. She knew it was slipping away. Tennis can be such a cruel sport and reduce players to rubble.

I love the way Maria constructed the points. She was generally calm and even after she won the match she was pretty calm.

Typical Lena too  She was a great player, having a decent singles career and very remarkable achievements in doubles. But she was a choker. I remember her against Martinez, always gotten mad about Conchita comebacks (AO, YEC, San Diego). Even she refuse to shake hands in YEC match, but later apologized.

I think she'd have been greater with more confidence in hershelf
