Considering Maria's serving lately, it's a good chance for Vee, if she makes it that far... It will at least help to tell where she stands in her comeback & a Venus/Serena match would be a big thing..

Of course Justine is on the opposite side, so our only chance of a Henin/Williams showdown is the final.... uggg..

Yeah, it's just not good that Serena has to play these players so early. If these were QF, SF, or Final match ups I'd say Serena all the way. We know how Serena has a tendancy to come out scratchy in the early rounds and she hasn't played since Jan  :scared:

so two of them have to lose before the quarterfinals, right? awesome. people are expecting too much from their typically shiteous matches anyway, and i'm talking about all three of their rivalries with each other. crap tennis and one or two or possibly all three of them will be upset before such "blockbuster" (cough) tennis can take place anyway

the only rivalries i wanted to see were hingis/henin v. williams but that doesn't look like it's happening.

hingis v. dulko round 2  :bigcry: oh well go martina. in fact hingis' draw is about as kind as a draw can get in such a loaded field. if she is playing well she should beat everyone in her half of the draw pretty handily in their current form, except for kuznetsova (who she always has tough matches with, but can still beat).

that being said hingis is not playing well so expect ivanovic to send her packing.

This is good for V/S...maybe now they will play some tournaments so they won't have to deal with these kinds of draws all year long. Sharapova... Maybe Maria will call Hingis for advice on how to beat both williams in a row.

Actually, I think the tournament organizers are ecstatic. The semis and final are going to sell out anyway, but with the draw the way it is, they should attract larger-than-normal crowds for the earlier rounds.

Hey guys. Everyone seems to be refering to a tough top quarter. It's not a tough top quarter, it's a tough top eighth. The 2nd eighth isn't that bad at all. Infact, except for a couple of players drawn near Henin, I'd say it's a pretty good draw for pretty much everyone except those unfortunately souls locked in the top eighth.

venusdemilo

What would happen if she withdrew to the draw?
Because this is such a large draw, they would probably seed Olga Poutchkova #33, slide her into Sharapova's slot at the top, and slide a Lucky Loser into Poutchkova's slot.

Well, it could have been worse. At least Venus and Serena can only meet each other in the fourth round. I really don´t like this draw but hey that´s what you get when your ranking is so low. I really hope that V & S get their ranking up because they should meet in semis and finals only. The same goes for their matchups with the top 5.

I said "probably" because that would require a lot less work than redoing the entire seven-round draw. If this were a normal 32-draw event with eight seeds, then they could easily do what you're thinking about.

No Henin got it this time. Looks like Maria lost "It"

Typical of you - criticise the girl when she gets a supposedly "easy" draw, criticise her when she gets one of the most difficult possible draws.

And those of you who think Maria will withdraw from the tournament after seeing the draw don't know anything about her. If she is completely uninjured or even still slightly injured, she'll play.

I just hope Maria is able to play something closer to her best, like her form at the US Open 'cause if so it will be a heck of a tournament.:bounce:

It will quite probably be more trouble for Venus.

It will be much harder for Venus. Serena, when she was at her best, came out VERY strong. Venus, on the other hand, even when she was at her best would often "play herself into form" at various tournaments. So if anything, it will probably be a greater challenge for her.

I know Serena is going to come out slow. She isn't going to give a shit if the fucking queen of fucking merry ole' England was standing at the other side of the net, Serena will still spray 30+ errors and win the match in three. She hasn't played since January, and she won't produce the same quality tennis she did against Maria in the Aus Open final. I hope I'm wrong.

Well, I don't think the draw is too bad.

The top quarter is crazy, yes, but none of the quarters are easy. Justine has far from a 'calk-walk' draw as she will most likely have to play Dani or Vera in the rd16, both of which are in great form, then possibly Nadia, who knows she can beat JuJu.

Possible interesting matches:
The entire top 1/4. LOL!

They are ALLL mental midgets. Vera had to rely on a choke from Maria to go through to play Na Li at Indian Wells, Nadia fucked herself up the last time she played Justine, beating Justine in three tight sets, and Dani is too mentally weak to face up to Justine. Even if Daniella was leading 6-0 5-0 40/0she'd find a way to cock it up.

But it MIGHT be what the tournament wants. I wouldn't be surprised if ESPN is figuring out a way to negotiate televising these featured matches earlier than originally planned. Of course, this contingency could have already been negotiated into the contract.

Last time I watched Daniella played, she was quite convincing from beginning to end - mesmorising is how I would describe it.

I think everyone has a tough 4R, AS IT SHOULD! Unfortunately Venus is in Maria and Serena's little corner. It is rather crowded there and impossible to let the WS spread their wings at the same time - well one will and I think it's going to be Serena.

1) maria can't pull out, this is a major IMG event, and maria is their poster child. there is no two way about it.

part of the reason, i felt that maria is given the #1 pre IW spot is, well, IMG's un-doing. i mean, IMG wants their poster child to be #1 for all that glitz and blitz, but, that leaves me wondering then who's going to pay for it ultimately.

2) "justine fucked somebody to get that draw" statements
i simply like the way that statement lingers in this thread. it's like saying, you fucked your brains out to post in this thread, and who wants to fuck your brains.....interesting.....

3) i wonder why they arranged it this way since it won't help the ratings. did anybody has an agenda to settle, ah well.

4) hantuchova is hot off IW. so it's not that easy anyways. but it's left in the wind whether that's a one-off or not, who knows.

5) miami is not justine's fav tournament. for those who thinks this is a GS/RG etc, haha, i think there is an illusion.

6) i pity those caught in that half....whoever survives, i hope has enough gas in the tank for the finals.

*I dont know why everybodys surprised by the draw  I mean Venus is quite low down in the rankings so she was going to have to play a top 5 player in the early round, could have been Justine as easily as Sharapova. And I think everyone was sort of hoping for a Justine - Serena final and now that can happen so... whats the problem??? Maybe they should themselves higher up the rankings then they can have something to complain about if the draw's rubbish!

um, please point to where Venus and Serena have complained about the draw?

Being number 1 counts for nothing! Eurosport aren't really good at picking the best match  And to be honest, I always see Jankovic on :shrug:wtf? They already know when they are going to broadcast tennis and when not. They don't decide when particular players will be on court. :o

OMG, Venus vs. Maria 3rd round, whoever wins faces Serena 4th round:haha: :haha: :haha: these 3 got the shitty end of the stick

dayum...those are my top 3 players Venus, Serena and Sharapova...they play each other too early...if they get past each other..its going to be a cake walk past the 4th round.

Yes, it looks like some players have easier draws than others, but if the matches were played on paper, Maria Sharapova would have double-bageled Camille Pin in Australia. Heck, if Roger Federer could lose to a guy who just came back from an 18-month doping suspension, who's to say Tiantian Sun or Vania King won't beat Justine?

Sh*t, why does Justine and the Williamses have to be in separate halves of the draw ?
I'm so much waiting for a Justine-Williams showdown (on hard), and I have the feeling it's not gonna happen this time. :fiery:

Geez, some of you WS fans are funny.

Horrible draw for your faves: "Oh shit, this is a shit draw!!!!!!!!!! NOOOOOO!"
Faves gets through the draw: "TOLD YOU THEY'D WIN!!! NYA NYA PU PU!"

Why not you replace Miami organisers? Colour code the draw pieces and choose to give a certain player hell?

Also, those who suddenly have the right to say FO's draw was rigged, the last time Justine played Garbin before this year's FO, Garbin was the last one to beat her there. And Myskina was a former RG champ. You people are so full of crap.

And for your info, Justine has never played her best in Miami, so anything can happen. Hold your panties before you decide to drop them too early.

The past doesn't matter at all. It's all about where Justine is with her form now.

Well that's out of their hands right now. One of them will lose in the 4th round, if not before then.

:haha: at top quarter. Poor Maria

They used last week's rankings... Too bad, Daniela will meet top 4 in R16 (Justine Henin, worst draw here).

Well of course they used last weeks rankings. That's what the rules say. I don't know why there was ever any debate they would do otherwise. They have no discretion on the matter.

Which is why *IF* a seed drops out they will shift the draw around and not just plug the player in. :tape:

This is one of a few posts that crack me up. That they'd do one thing if V & S have a bad draw and another otherwise. You are right on one thing though - they will shift the seeds around if there is a withdrawal prior to release of the schedule of play for the main draw. But this is because the rules say so. They are very clearly laid down for every draw size. They certainly have no discretion to apply or not apply it depending on the nonsense reason you've dreamed up.

Anyway - this withdrawal thing is pure fantasy. This is Miami. No seeded player is going to withdraw unless they are genuinely too injured to play. And the suggestion someone made that Maria might withdraw because she'll be too scared of her draw is plain :cuckoo:.

True, but I still won't be too confident.
I'm not finding an excuse, but this will be a hard period for her. Her mom's death anniversary falls on the middle of the tournament. And although she has done better in the tournament where she skips IW, we'll see how this goes.

Other than not being able to see it on TV, I see nothing wrong with having the good/tough matches early. It'll prove who is really in form. As for Serena possibly playing Bammer or Safarova (both giving her trouble in Hobart), I think Serena's form is quite a bit different in the positive right now, so I'm not really too worried.

Serena/Justine final PLEEEEEEEASE!

actually after a draw is made and before the first round is played they do have the option (to shift seeds or to just plug in the Lucky Loser) and FYI, I don't think they would do that for Venus and Serena.....I know they are ok with where ever they are in the draw, now for ESPN or IMG/Sharapova I have my doubts. So save the psychology drama for your mama. :ras:
