Stoga ću u Roland Garrosu morati igrati u kvalifikacijama. Planiram igrati sva tri juniorska Grand Slam turnira, no sve češće pokušavat ću i na seniorskim turnirima. Cilj? Uvijek želiš najbolje, biti u samom vrhu. No, najbitnije je zdravlje, ostalo će sigurno doći - zaključuje Tinjić.

Ovo je tekst iz Večernjeg lista, utorak, 15.5.2007.

I just came from Zagreb, what a day it was, some great matches!
I'm so sorry for Jasmina, she is realy talented and couldn't play normaly because she was injured! I was siting in front of her coach, he said that yesterday she pulled out her stomac muscle and she wanted to retire, but he told her to try and see how it goes!
Unfortunately, it wasn't good, although Szavay isn't very impressive!
Jasmina likes to hit ball early, so she played from inside the court while her opponent was way back just waiting for Jasmina's mistakes!
Hungarian has a nice backhand though, her best shot, Jasmina tried to play more to her forehand as her coach was telling her to do so, but still she couldn't move properly!
It was a bit sad, but I'm glad it's nothing serious!

Jasmina is finally making some noise again! Today, at the $25K in Grado she beat Mariana Duque-Marino, the top seed, in straight sets (64 64)!!! Duque-Marino is ranked 157, so this must be Jasmina's biggest win of her young career, no?!?

She's now through to the QF, where she'll play Federica Di Sarra (ranked 450; I've never heard of her). Good luck, Jasmina!!!

She now plays the winner of Mayr (#299) and Sevastova (#300). Tough match for Jasmina but, regardless of what happens, she has already had a very good tournament.

Dva mjeseca nisam igrala turnire zbog problema s nedostatkom vitamina. Napokon sam zaigrala i odmah ušla u finale. Vrlo sam zadovoljna i zbog igre jer se polako vraćam u formu. Svi udarci odlično me služe i to je razlog dobrih rezultata. Posebno sam zadovoljna pobjedom u 2. kolu nad 1. nositeljicom, Kolumbijkom Marianom Duque-Marinom. To mi je dalo novo samopouzdanje, što će pomoći uoči sutrašnjeg susreta s Austrijankom Patriciom Mayr. Ne znam mnogo o njoj, nisam je čak ni gledala na turniru. To nije moj stil jer ja vjerujem u svoju igru. Optimistična sam i vjerujem u dobarfinalni nastup, kaže 17-godišnja Splićanka Jasmina Tinjić.

Jasmina is back in action, playing qualies of Zwevegem 25k. She's in the final round after beating Van Bennekom (ranked 1063) 6:4 6:4 in QR1, and Balogova (ranked 697) 6:2 4:6 7:6 in QR2. In order to qualify she has to beat Algerian S. Medjahdi, ranked 896, with a career high ranking of 370. If she does that, she'll get back into rankings (as of July 28th) at about #610.

There's good news and bad news. The good news is that qualies was only two rounds so Jasmina qualified for the main draw after winning her second match.

The bad news is that in the first round of the main draw she plays the top seed, Martinovic, ranked 192. I wish Jasmina all the best but don't think she has much of a chance...

She has a good QR1 draw, playing Kambic of Slovenia, who's 3 years older but never made it higher than about 900 in the rankings. Although, she'll probably have to beat 2 top500 players if she wants to qualify. Good thing is her current form is good enough, so there should be no problems.

After some two months Jasmina could be in action next week in qualies of Bratislava 100k (she's 5th alt now)! Eventhough that's good news I think this might be a very tough job for her, cause she hasn't won a match in about three months, and it's been more than four since her last worthy result (finals of that 25k). Well, we should first wait and see if she'll even play that.

Sorry, she didn't double-bagel her, but double-breadstick (if that's even a word)

She won QR2 6:4 6:1 and now plays top seed Krajicek for a place in the main draw. Three weeks ago Krajicek (former top30) played finals of Bratislava 100k, but two weeks ago she lost in the first round of Ismaning 50k, so I guess it's hard to predict anything. Hope Jasmina can make an upset here.

And that's not all, she's playing some local girl (exact her age) with a wild card, who's at the career high ranking of 1006, and made just 2 singles wins this year! One was from 3 weeks ago when her opponent (ranked in the 800's) retired injured, and the other from 5 months ago when she beat someone raked in the 900's - Jasmina must take this chance!

A really unlucky draw here. This girl is 359 with a career-high of 242, but I still believe Jasmina can win it. An advantage of Tedjakusuma is also her experience, cause she's practically a veteran at 32. But read this - she had 7 straight loses last year in just two months. Her first half of the year, however, was decent, with even a semi of 50k from qualies. She also won 3 doubles titles on challengers.

Jasmina's career is a bit of a mystery to me. She's obviously hugely talented and has enough big wins to prove she's not a fluke and that she belongs (in 2008 she beat Duque-Marino in straight sets; in 2009 she demolished Larsson 62 60 ; so far this year she has beaten Beltrame, Birnerova, Tamaela, Poutchek and, this week alone, Botto, Chakhnashvili and Domachowska).

On the other hand, her career-high ranking is only 452 (and it's not like she's just starting out her career). It appears to be because in 2008 and 2009 she didn't play many events and also had several losses to more-or-less complete unknowns (Kvatsabaia, Eric, Melena).

She seems to be fixing that. She has been playing more often this year and has had only two what I would consider bad losses (Melena and Sekulic). Hopefully she is turning her career around. There are already too many Croatian women players with unpredictable careers!

Good luck, Jasmina!

Well if she can string a few wins there it's better that she plays the strongest tournaments possible. In the short run smaller tournaments would do more for her ranking, allowing her to climb faster, but playing in larger events and winning matches there will surely give her more confidence and experience, especially those matches against women who were once close to the top.

Once upon a time we were complaining about the same things with Lucic (why she insists on playing larger events when there are smaller ones not too far away), but now her choices seem reasonable. Looks like Jasmina is focusing on the bigger picture and long term achievements, and hopefully things will turn out just fine:)

^^ LOL, but at least she's not selling herself cheaply:lol:

Jokes aside, I'm really surprised by this move, maybe she's counting on some QWC's for tour events?! That would be nice, but even just playing these big challengers will do her good. Sure, Asian tournaments usually aren't particularly strong compared to those in Europe, but she could still face some tougher opponents in later stages. It also looks like she could be seeded in qualies, which would sure help, cause no one wants her to waste any unnecessary energy.

qualifying + a couple of md wins in 100k events really add up the points. she seems to be finding some more confidence in her game and she's playing pretty well with top200 players, even beating some of them. she's still young so let's see what she can do by RG next year

Exactly. I'm hoping she can find her way to RG qualies if she can continue playing like these past few weeks.

Will she really travel to Asia to play a tournament?

Well she is scheduled to play in China later this week (qualies for next week), so I don't see why she wouldn't go that extra mile to Japan.

Looks like her plans are to stay in Asia for some time, probably so that she can "jump over" to Australia just in case she gets a shot at making the AO qualies in January - smart move!

Do you guys know what all these players have in common?

C. Giovine (WTA #266)
A. Rus (#122)
K. Kucova (#220)
A. Pavlyuchenkova (#20)
H. Watson (#211)
N. Hofmanova (#231)
M. Brengle (#181)
S. Halep (#100)
O. Kalashnikova (#189)
M. Doi (#156)
R. Marino (#137)

Jasmina beat them all in junior events!

Neither did I (was browsing her junior results today), and she would probably have even more nice wins if only she would have played more as a junior. I don't know why (injuries, lack of funds...?), but she played very few events as a junior. Those were mostly larger and more important ones, and she wasn't very active on that circuit, reaching only #63 in the rankings, but the talent is obvious.

Jasmina was ranked in the 960s as recently as three months ago. Since then, she has moved up to her current CH ranking of 410.

She is defending only 8 points (out of 85 total) until next June, so she can improve her ranking a lot between now and then. I wouldn't be surprised to see her in the 200s by the end of the year.

I hope you're right, but honestly I don't see her that far up by year end. In order to get to #250 she'd have to earn a little over 100 points (something like 110 I think), and reaching R2 from qualies on a 100K challenger, which is what she did in her last two tournaments, is 24 points. So she'd have to repeat that probably 5 more times by the end of the season only to get into 250. Of course, things change if she goes deeper into these events, but given her entry ranking for events to come she can't rely on direct acceptances into MD's - unless some tournament directors come to their senses and realize she's too good for these quelies.

Anyway, hope she exceeds our expectations:)

P. S. I wonder why the quali draw for this Ningbo 100k+H still hasn't come out anywhere...btw, looks like Jasmina will miss out on being seeded in qualies.

Jasmina is 3rd seeded and she should qualify with ease:

(3)Jasmina Tinjic (CRO) v BYE
(wc)Nan-Nan Zhang (CHN) v Zi Yang (CHN)
Boyan Wang (CHN) v Yang Pang (CHN)
(7)Yue-Yue Hu (CHN) v Yafan Wang (CHN)

The highest ranked opponent Yue-Yue Hu is somehow not convincing for me

Just qualifying would give Jasmina another 6 points. That would be enough to crack the top 400 for the first time.

C'mon, Jasmina, you can do it!

Disappointing and unexpected loss in qualies but it's important that she made it into the MD. If she fins a way to win her R1 match, she'll shoot up to ~370 in the rankings, which would be impressive. If she loses, she'll still get 4 points from qualies, which will still bring her into the 300s, but just barely.

Of Jasmina's 105 ranking points, 68 (65%) have come from just her last three tournaments, all in the last month: Biella (24), Sofia (24) and Ningbo this week (20).

If she were able to earn that rate of points over 16 tournaments (~23 pts/tournament), she would be ranked around #170 in the world

God I hope that's the case, it's either that or some freakin problem with a visa, her health (although she seems fine) or who knows what... Fingers crossed! Oh, well done on winning that R1 girl, maybe a bit close for comfort, but a win is a win;)

Now let's give it a shot against the all mighty Jela:bounce:

OMG, Jasmina won't get to play Dokic, cause she lost 4 & 4 to Han:eek: Still, we can't really say this is a realistic chance for Jasmina, cause after that loss in QR1 I really don't see her winning against world #144, who's btw on a career-high ranking at the moment. Still it'll be a challenge for Jasmina, not just because of a good opponent, but also because this girl is a lefty, which might make it even harder. She's also a year older, but that shouldn't make a whole lot of difference.

So all the best Jasmina, do a good job, try to challenge your opponent and let's see what happens;)

ma re
Sep 29th, 2010, 06:23 PM
Unfortunately she lost (1:6, 6:7), but it's not such a terrible thing to lose to a top150 player and even play one tight set against her. In fact, she almost got the same number of games against Han as Dokic, and was actually closer (in terms of result) to winning a set than Jelena:eek:

Not a bad week Jasmina (except for that hickup in qualies...), not bad at all;)

Too bad she lost but it would have been a shock if she had won. She'll move up ~40 spots in the rankings this week. That'll bring her into the 300s for the first time.

It's amazing progress, considering she was ranked in the 900s just three months ago.

ma re

No, she's not in either the qualies or the main draw of Beijing, and she also withdrew from Torhout 100k+H which starts on October 11th. We still don't know if there's a chance for her to play Osaka or Linz which also start on the 11th. Last year, the last direct acceptance into qualies of Osaka was ranked 402 so she might really have a chance if something like that happens again. Linz was much stronger in '09, with the last direct acceptance into qualies ranked at 286.

A nice jump in the singles rankings this week for Jasmina, from #412 to #372. She's now 8th best among Croatian women, with Pandzic being the next in front at 325.

P. S. About a week and a half ago someone posted in the Osaka thread that the q-list goes down to #366. Hard to believe Jasmina will make it in based on ranking, but I wouldn't mind getting surprised with a wildcard:)

No news at all. Nothing in the media, and we can only see that she withdrew from both, next week's Torhout 100k+H, as well as from Saint Raphael 50k the week after that. She's not in the WTA qualies either, Linz and Osaka are both out.

She should be back in Europe, cause her name came up on the list for Poitiers 100k, which starts on October 25th. Currently she's 15th alt, but with almost 2 weeks to go it's safe to assume she has a shot at getting in.

Things not looking great for Poitiers, qualies start in like 3 or 4 days and Jasmina is still only 9th on the alt's list. Just one girl ahead of her doesen't have this as Priority 1, which doesen't help either.

But the good thing (sort of) is, that she's also on the lists for both 50k+H ITF's that start on the week of November 1st, and it looks like she could get into those.
