I know it's still a week and a half away, but I'm going to be there so I'm really excited. :D

I've been there twice and seen Maria both years (2005 & 2006).

She beat Chakvetadze 7-5 6-3 in 2005 when I saw her and almost beat Sharapova lost year so hopefully she plays well again this year when I see her. ;)

I'll be there from the 2nd round all the way through the semifinals so I'll provide reports and hopefully pictures. :)

Good luck Maria!

It will be a surprise.

I hoped the doubles pairing with Martina would be last the year, and she would try and learn something from her. You'd have thought taking her 2nd dbls title in two years would have rang bells somewhere. But it seems that's dead, and back to playing with Ana Ivanovic, from whom she will learn nothing.

Somebody wrote "Hope springs eternal." I hope for the best.

I was hoping the same thing for Makiri also. You would think having the sweet taste of victory again would have stirred up something deep in Makiri's heart and soul. Being able to play and win with a proven champ like Hingis would have helped her in some way with her singles play, but I guess we will have to wait and see.;) A coach would help her greatly.

If there's any better time to pull out an upset it's against Venus in the 2nd round in Miami.:yeah: She's coming off a wrist injury and she's still shaking the rust off her game. Attack her Makiri and use all the variety you possess in your game. Don't try to challenge her from the baseline, give her some side spin, slice, topsin, moonballs, etc. Big hitters love pace and they hate it when they have to generate their own pace themselves.;) Keep your returns deep and low where Venus has to stretch down to retrieve. Come to the net when the opportunity is there. No player is invincible (except Federer), she can be beaten Makiri! BELIEVE that you can do it!:)

Little Masha was no match for Venus who played well. :( That was to be expected. Venus has tremendous length, court coverage and power. :smash: Makiri was basically helpless against Venus for 2 sets even though she played okay.

Makiri willl continue her bad form unless she goes on without a coach.
If she had got a a real coach from the beginning ahe would have been a top ten player. Look at Anna slowly but with confident steps she is marching her target. If Krilrmko were on her shoes with a coach Maria could be a dangereous opponent of the rivals that every body talks
As I told it before amria shoud get a coach and should identify her purposes .
Im afraid that more worse days are waiting for her.
Maria get a coach please.

You are so right about that. It is time for Maria to take control of her career and hire herself a good coach. As long as Yuri is calling the shots, Maria's career is going nowhere. It is a shame that he is ruining his daughter's career. Maria has too much talent and is too good of a person to continue on like this. I know Masha wants to be successful, she said so earlier this year. To reach that success, she's going have to push Yuri aside and make the decisions that will take her to the Top 10.

JimM
Mar 28th, 2007, 11:34 PM
She has the same problem as Big Masha... Their Dad's.They have to cut the cord. They will never make their full potential unless they both get proper coaching. Thats Big Masha's problem. Joyce plays 2nd fiddle too Yuri, and Yuri simply cannot take her any further. The same with Lil Masha.

Really frustrating watching them lose to lesser players.

Our little girl seems lose confidence,so she can`t do as her strategy
Other girls are pushing but she stop stepping towards her target
There is no doubt that Makiri is talented, and she needs a coach to dig her talent and give her right advice Otherwise she will be a only-title player

while other girls are hustling hard, maria seem to have lost the drive.

i'm sure she works hard and tries to do her best, but "her best" is nowhere near good enough atm and is definitely not indicative of the tremendous talent she possesses. she desperately needs specialist development ie. coach or she'll continue to slide down the rankings and become a "write-off".

Anyone who is willing to work for peanuts because Makiri's father Yuri has control of her check book. He must be walking around with blinders on because he fails to see his daughter's struggles. Not only does Makiri have to worry about her slow plummet in the rankings, but also her endorsement deals. I don't think Addidas' Stella McCartney line are too pleased with her early round exits. She's not getting the public exposure out there at the tourneys that they want to see.

I'm not sure who saw the match, but I'll report anyways.

Maria just got overpowered. I mean she can't hurt Venus at all.

Maria was hitting too short allowing Venus to take control easily.

She didn't look to be there at all. :o

someone who can help her climb out of this hole she has dug for herself (with the assistance of her dad..erm, coach) and begin to rebuild her game and confidence.

really? what a tool

I can only conject he has an oversized ego, as any parent would want what's best for their child, and is too proud to step aside. Maria needs to unbuckle herself from the passenger seat, strap into the driver's and push dad to the backseat.

And losing the stella deal is very much a reality which would be a damn shame..only maria can pull those outfits :)
