Sveta is going to play IW after she plays the Doha final.
6 of the top 9 seeds will be Russian.
Mar 2nd, 2007, 10:33 PM
I'm dancing in my office as I type!
I can't believe it!!!!
Mar 3rd, 2007, 01:02 AM
she'd really play Indian Wells?!?
Mar 3rd, 2007, 01:58 AM
why why why???????????????? so dumb Sveta. with this schedule you are going to be dead by the end of March.
Mar 3rd, 2007, 02:23 AM
Last year Sveta played Dubai, Doha, Miami, AI, FCC. Then Warsaw, Berlin, Rome.
The same amount of tournaments this year. IW gives her days off.
Mar 3rd, 2007, 09:50 AM
she will get a bye first round and probably won play until thursday or friday. good decision sveta and good luck vs henin in doha
Mar 3rd, 2007, 08:04 PM
Good luck Svetalana :D
Mar 3rd, 2007, 09:50 PM
She gets a few days off now before IW begins. (But then she'll need it - 11 hours time difference between Qatar and California! Jet-lag anyone?)
Sveta is on an improving trend at the moment. Last sixteen in Melbourne, quarter-finals in Paris, semis at Dubai and final in Doha. Extrapolating the trend, she should win the title in IW!!! Let's hope so.
Mar 4th, 2007, 10:45 PM
Davai SVETA! :D
Let's hope shes not too tired out from Doha...
Mar 5th, 2007, 07:42 PM

Mar 7th, 2007, 03:36 PM
hold on Svetlana :) good luck!
Mar 7th, 2007, 07:55 PM
Sveta has been getting some good draws recently, and with 350 points to defend in Miami, she needs a good run here.
This is a very good draw to the quarters, where Sveta will probably have a rematch of the RG SF last year.
Mar 8th, 2007, 09:56 PM
Great draw Sveta make the best out of it :D
Mar 9th, 2007, 02:26 AM
Sveta plays OPRANDI, who played Sveta tough on clay last year
Mar 9th, 2007, 03:08 AM
Sveta has an awesome graw and no points to defend hopefully she makes the best of it. Good luck Svets
Mar 9th, 2007, 02:29 PM
It's not that bad of a schedule seeing how she'd get almost a full week off, even if she goes all the way in IW, so she gets a week off after each tourney basically.
Good luck! :)
Mar 9th, 2007, 10:12 PM
She will even have had an extra day's rest as her half of the draw won't be playing their second-round matches till Saturday. And as noted above, it's a good draw, so Sveta don't you let us, your fans, down by losing early on... Good luck Sveta!!
Anyone done the maths to see if she could rise to world no. 3 if she wins this? That would be her highest ever ranking.
Mar 10th, 2007, 09:10 AM
Yes, if she wins she can get up to #3.

Mar 11th, 2007, 03:48 AM
well job sveta!
Mar 11th, 2007, 08:03 AM
Thats a decent start against a tricky player. Well done Svets good luck next round
Mar 11th, 2007, 10:11 AM
I'm sure it will be an interesting match. The last two years, they didn't have to play.
Mar 11th, 2007, 02:50 PM
I saw the match. Sveta did well to win, as Oprandi was
smart and executed many good drop shots when Sveta
was behind the baseline--however, Sveta got to some of
those (photos coming tonight (Pacific Time) if I get home
at a decent hour!)--but Sveta hung in there and won.
Sveta seemed unsatisfied with her play. At the end of the
match, she did hit three autographed balls into the stands,
but did it pretty quickly and not in a really happy fashion.
Jet lag? A little ill? Just pissed off at her own play? I
However, Oprandi was even more prickly. Near the end of the
second set, she kind of sneered at Sveta, implying that Sveta
was delaying the game. (Sveta was being deliberate, in a
very intelligent way.)
As mentioned above, I got lots of photos and will post later on.
(However, I'm off on a business trip starting Sunday, so the
majority of the photos won't be up for about a week. Sorry!)
Mar 11th, 2007, 02:53 PM
Oh! Sveta held it together really well when it mattered.
She broke, and held--it was good.
It was really good to see her play again. I hadn't seen
her live since Wimbledon, and hadn't seen her in California
since Acura Classic '05.
Mar 11th, 2007, 04:29 PM
One more thing: both in practice and in the match, Sveta
started playing with a Head Extreme and then switched back
to her old racquet.
She actually switched to the old racquet (in the match) right
before she had that streak of games won. It's interesting--I
kind of think she's really playing w/ the Extreme racquet, rather
than doing a paintjob.
She also changed shoes during the match. And always was
fiddling with them (we've seen this behavior before.)
Mar 11th, 2007, 11:33 PM
Thanks for the report,Mary!! :D
I hope Sveta keeps playing well when it matters ;)
Mar 12th, 2007, 03:56 PM
I forgot to write this: her wrist (right) was taped.
Mar 13th, 2007, 01:55 AM

Kuznetsova, Sugiyama to Vie for Quarterfinal Spot
After producing a confident display to begin her third round, second seed Svetlana Kuznetsova needed to brush aside a shaky performance in the second set Monday to complete the 6-1, 7-6(4) victory over fellow Russian Elena Likhovtseva at the Pacific Life Open.
Likhovtseva put together a late comeback effort against Kuznetsova, earning eight break points alone in the second set, but Kuznetsova succeeded in holding her game together to avoid a third set.
"She start to play better, but I start struggling a little bit and couldn't focus very much on my game in the end," Kuznetsova said. "In the important moments, I start playing well because I had to otherwise I would go for three sets."
Kuznetsova, who is coming off a runner-up finish in Doha, will attempt to reach the quarterfinals for her third consecutive Indian Wells appearance when she takes on Japanese veteran Ai Sugiyama. Kuznetsova has won five of their six previous encounters.
Sugiyama defeated Italian Tathiana Garbin 6-7(4), 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final 16 for her fifth consecutive event showing, and for the eighth time in her ten career appearances at Indian Wells.
Mar 13th, 2007, 12:31 PM
For tournaments as rich as this one at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, with its $2.1 million women's purse, the WTA Tour must deliver two of the four highest-ranked women and six of the leading 10. Should the tour fail to do so, it must pay a penalty to the event's owners.
Until Kuznetsova was fitted into the field, the Pacific Life Open had only one of the four highest-ranked players, Maria Sharapova, ranked No. 1. Anyone watching Kuznetsova, ranked No. 4, drag through her opening match here, a three-set escape against Romina Oprandi of Italy, could have decided that she was competing only because somebody from the WTA community had whispered in her ear that it would be a nice idea for her to head for the desert.
In two different ways, Kuznetsova yesterday put any suspicions concerning her status to rest. One way was by performing actively and with energy in besting one of her best friends in tennis, Elena Likhovtseva of Russia, 6-1, 7-6 (7-4), and gaining the tournament's fourth round.
Kuznetsova's actions spoke for her, and so did her words. Of her lackluster play in her opening match, she said this: “We play tournaments every week, so it's very hard to come up every day with the same energy. I still go to the match and I still do the best I can, but some matches you're not 100 percent.”
The PLO is a Tier I event. Some Tier I tournaments can be made mandatory for players. For others, they can choose if they wish to play. As Kuznetsova explained her status, she must play in Charleston in April. She need not have entered this week's event, but she chose to do so.
“I just want to play,” she explained. “And I thought it would work much better for the tour because they did not have a good field here, but they had a good field in Charleston.”
The U.S. Open champion in 2004, Kuznetsova said her problem in the beginning of this week was that she was not getting a read on how the ball was bouncing. “It's very confusing to say that, but it's very strange,” she said. “And today I started to do better. So I feel more relaxed about that, so hopefully tomorrow I am going to have a better game.”
Mar 14th, 2007, 10:58 AM
Sveta beat Ai easly this time
Open Draw: but Nicole is next
Mar 14th, 2007, 11:12 AM
Sveta is 3 wins from having USO, Miami, and IW titles at age 21
Mar 14th, 2007, 06:28 PM
good luck Sveta! :rocker2:
Mar 14th, 2007, 11:13 PM
Interesting that three of the top four seeds lost in the fourth round. So Kuzy is far and away the highest-ranked player remaining. I hope she is able to take this golden chance. But her next opponent is the highest-ranked of the other seven players left in the draw, Nicole Vaidisova. Hopefully she can repeat her victory from last year's Roland Garros semi-final. (Then the rest should be easy!!.....)
GO SVETA !!!!!
Yep, to have won the USA's biggest three tournaments at the age of 21, that would be awesome...
Mar 15th, 2007, 08:56 AM
Sveta plays Nicole Thursday first match
Mar 15th, 2007, 06:53 PM
Good luck, Sveta. I hope you'll win ;)

Mar 16th, 2007, 05:07 PM
Mar 16th, 2007, 07:29 PM
This is great. Svetlana is now playing the powerful hard-hitting tennis that she is capable of. A far cry from the beginning of the year, when the bronchitis attack scuppered her plans at Sydney and also the after-effects must have lingered which is why she wasn't her true self when I saw her playing in Melbourne.
It's looking good. Hopefully she can easily dispose of Sybille Bammer, and then her most likely opponent in the final could be Daniela Hantuchova, whom Sveta beat just a couple of weeks ago in Doha if my memory serves me right.
The next time I actually get to see Sveta myself, in the flesh, is likely to be Eastbourne and/or Wimbledon, so I hope she's playing her true game then too. Her performance at Wimbledon last year seemed a bit subdued - and she lost in the third round - but now I believe her confidence is back and we're seeing the true Svetlana. I think she believes she's capable of capturing the number one ranking at some point. That would be great.
PS I think it's a Saturday final at I.W., n'est-ce pas?
Mar 16th, 2007, 10:42 PM
If Sveta beats Bammer, she moves up to a career high #3.
Mar 16th, 2007, 11:20 PM
Vamos!, a ganar! :rocker2:
Mar 16th, 2007, 11:34 PM
The problem will be that it's very hot at IW, and Sveta just played a long tough match.
Mar 16th, 2007, 11:36 PM
If Sveta beats Bammer, she moves up to a career high #3.
She would do it, i'm sure :)
Mar 17th, 2007, 12:34 AM
Well she'll have to come from a set down if she wants that number 3....
Mar 17th, 2007, 12:36 AM
Bad news so far, Sveta lost the first set 7-6(5). However, it wasn't till the 8th set point that Bammer got it, after a long and crucial twelfth game.
Despite the heat, I hope Sveta is fit enough to tough it out and, like yesterday, come through from a set down.
(and it will indeed be Daniela on the opposite side of the net in the final)
GO SVETA !!!!!
Mar 17th, 2007, 01:30 AM
Mar 17th, 2007, 01:49 AM
Sveta is up 2 breaks in the 3rd, 67 64 41
Mar 17th, 2007, 02:10 AM
And she won!
And World #3 :D
Mar 17th, 2007, 02:24 AM
Sveta won 67 64 61. World #3. The highest ranked player who has played Fed Cup for Russia. She now has made back to back finals. One win from owning USO, Miami, and Indian Wells titles at age 21.
Mar 17th, 2007, 02:28 AM
Mar 17th, 2007, 02:32 AM
WIN THE TITLE! :bounce:

QUE EMOCION! :sobbing:
Mar 17th, 2007, 03:08 AM
Dani has been playing well, beating Hingis twice
Should be a good final.
Mar 17th, 2007, 03:36 AM
World # 3! World #3!!!
Mar 17th, 2007, 11:32 AM
wow number 3 :yeah:
Mar 17th, 2007, 02:33 PM
Yeah and she is the fourth russian woman, who enters in the top three :)
I think she can beat Dani, but it will be difficult and problably a tough match!
Mar 17th, 2007, 05:15 PM
Oh wow what can I say? I'm totally delighted with the fact that Sveta has reached a highest ranking with this victory in SF(I think she can go definitely higher if she keeps improving ;) ) and I really mean it even if I'm a big Amélie fan.
Yesterday I was so tired and sleepy after a hard week that I couldn't stay awake to watch her match (bad fan,I know  ) but I hope today I can see a really beautiful and great final victory by Sveta :D ;) Sure,HAntuchova will be tough (she might be in damned good form to go that far) but Sveta has the tennis weapons and mental patience to beat her IMHO.So go for it Sveta, just play your A game & grab that title!!!!! :bounce:
What time (european time) the match will be on?Anyone knows? Thanks in advance.
Mar 17th, 2007, 05:41 PM
Veronika, at 2:00PM local time, it means 22:00 our time.. ;)
Mar 17th, 2007, 05:42 PM
California time, it's not before 2pm. So that's like...10pm in the UK?
Can you figure out the time from that?
It'll be the hottest part of the day.
Mar 17th, 2007, 05:45 PM
Thanks girls :D I'll make sure to watch it ;)
Is it that hot in California,Mary?
Mar 17th, 2007, 07:53 PM
Win the title Svetlana :woohoo: :rocker2: :yeah:
World #3
Mar 17th, 2007, 10:15 PM
Yes, Daniela has been on form recently. As noted above, she has beaten Hingis, but remember, last time out at Doha Sveta beat Daniela. We're hoping, aren't we, that Sveta can win again.
Both finalists came through tough three-set semis in the heat. Sveta showed that she has the mental and physical power to come through, and I hope she does it again today. GO SVETA !!!! She's definitely in much better shape than at the beginning of the season.
BTW, 2pm in California is 9pm UK time, and 10pm in Central Europe, i.e. just about now, in fact they've just started (Dani serving first). So yes, the hottest part of the day...
Mar 17th, 2007, 11:35 PM
Sveta lost 36 46. She was outplayed the whole way
Mar 17th, 2007, 11:37 PM
But, hats off to Daniela, she is obviously in great form. Maybe just one more comeback from Sveta was too much to hope for. She'll be glad of a couple of days' rest before Miami.
Mar 18th, 2007, 01:30 AM
:sobbing: Sveta always with you!
Mar 18th, 2007, 04:07 AM
Im very happy for her that she made the final a title would have been nice but it just wasnt her day today. Good tournament anyhow.
Mar 18th, 2007, 04:53 AM
Thanks girls :D I'll make sure to watch it ;)
Is it that hot in California,Mary?
Yes, it's very hot in Indian Wells right now. Los Angeles was a little
cooler than Indian Wells today, but it is still unseasonably warm.
It's great that Sveta made the final! She'll be fine--she's doing great.
Mar 18th, 2007, 10:14 AM
Unfortuanetely, she lost..but it wasn't her day!
But she's the 3 now :bounce:
Mar 18th, 2007, 03:44 PM
I hope she can defend her title in Miami.
