Aca te dejo el articulo Jess

Pattaya, first WTA tour event to use new doubles format

The US$170,000 Pattaya Women’s Open, which is being held at the Dusit Resort, Pattaya from 3 – 11 February, will be the first Sony Ericsson WTA tour event to test out a new doubles format for professional women’s tennis tournaments.

The new format which is similar to that used on the ATP men’s tour is designed to shorten the length of doubles matches and make them more interesting for spectators.

The key changes involve the third set being replaced by a super tie-break if the scores are level at one set each and dispensing with ad scoring, so that when the score in a game reaches deuce, the next point decides the winner of the game.

In addition to changing the doubles format, the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has dispensed with doubles qualifying at all tour events.

The entry list at Pattaya includes 5 players ranked in the top 30 in doubles including Olympic champion Sun Tiantian, Sania Mirza, Maria Kirilenko, Marian Bartoli, and Gisella Dulko.

The Pattaya Women’s Open qualifying rounds will take place on Saturday 3 February and Sunday 4 February, when admission is free. Tickets for the 5 – 8 February are priced at 300 baht and for the final 3 days from 9 – 11 February, the tickets are priced at 300, 500 and 1,000 baht.

For further information, contact Pentangle Promotions Co.,Ltd: Tel: 02-3823491-3 or visit the website at www.pentanglepromotions.com

The Pattaya Women’s Open is supported by Pattaya City, Chonburi Province, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Sony Ericsson, Wilson, Head and the Dusit Group

Ya se puso en practica con la victoria del team chino .Sun/Zhang (CHN/CHN) d. Amanmuradova/Klepac (UZB/SLO) 64 57 119 (match tie-break)

Bammer Notches Comeback Win Over Dulko For First Title

PATTAYA CITY, Thailand - It has been a long wait, but Sybille Bammer is finally on the list of Sony Ericsson WTA Tour champions. Twelve years after contesting her first professional event (and almost six years after giving birth to her daughter, Tina), the 26-year-old Austrian won the $170,000 Pattaya Women's Open presented by TAT.

And she did so in dramatic style, taking out Argentina's Gisela Dulko in the final, 75 36 75, in just a few minutes shy of three hours. After Bammer won the first set, it was Dulko who took control, cruising through the second and building a 5-3 lead in the third set. The Argentine held three match points in that game, and had a 30-0 lead while trying to serve it out at 5-4; but the stars were in line for the Austrian.

"When I was down in the third I said 'Okay I'm down but I’ll keep fighting and try to give my best,'" Bammer said afterwards. "Both of us wanted to win, and it was a big fight; today we were both winners. It was a tough match and I was lucky."

Dulko is now 0-2 lifetime in Tour singles finals, having been a runner-up to Zheng Jie at Hobart in 2005.

"It was a really tough match - maybe the longest one I've ever played," Dulko said. "I feel a bit disappointed of course. I had match points and was close to winning the title. Anyway I'm happy I played a final again. Even if I lost and had a chance to win my first title I feel happy inside because I did the best I could."

Bammer has played amongst the professionals since 1995 and on the Tour since 2000, but it was only this past week where she made a Tour final for the first time, and subsequently came away with her first title. This wasn't the first time she turned heads this season - at the Australian Open tune-up event in Hobart she beat Serena Williams, who would go on to win the year's first major.

Needless to say, Bammer is playing the best tennis of her life; her run in Pattaya City - which included upsets over No.7 seed Vasilisa Bardina, No.4 seed Peng Shuai and finally No.6 seed Dulko - will stay with her for a long, long time.

"I really enjoyed Thailand - it's a very nice country, the people are very nice, I like the weather, the food, and it's always a great hotel and courts," Bammer said. "I'm in good physical shape so I feel the heat and humidity are a little advantage for me, that my opponent is tired and I'm still okay.

"I feel great and I'm very happy. It's one of the happiest days of my life."

Bammer is also the first mother to win a Tour singles title since Laura Arraya won San Juan in 1989.

This was the first time she has won 2 matches in a row since Wimbledon last year.. when she lost to Severine Bremond after having 4 match points as well.
Her record since then was 5-15  until this week so even though she lost I'm sure it must give her some confidence. :bounce:

Not sure what her schedule is but I really hope she contines to play the lower Tier tournaments for a while to build her ranking back up.

Vamos Gise.

Pretty sure Bogota is next.

Gisela should have won. She choked. Gisela had 3 MPs on Bammer's serve at 5-3 but made UEs. Then dropped her serve at 5-4 she wasn't in the last 2 games. It is dissappointing. Hopefully it doesn't affect her as the Bremond match did.
