Correct me if I am wrong, but I can't see a thread for this tournament, weird considering its soooooo close...
Anyway, MK's quarter:

(1)Maria Sharapova (RUS) v BYE
Francesca Schiavone (ITA) v (wc)Erika Takao (JPN)

Ai Sugiyama (JPN) v Elena Vesnina (RUS)
(7)Shahar Peer (ISR) v Maria Kirilenko (RUS)

Peer 1st round :scared:  But if she plays her best, win or lose I'm sure will be happy...
I possible (and I know I'm probably dreaming a lot) QF with Big Masha... That would be awesome :rocker2:

Good luck Makiri dear, enjoy! :yeah:

Ouch! That's a really tough opening match. Especially considering Shahar's current form. Maria is going to need to be at her best to win. Still, a win against Shahar could really boost her confidence. Good luck Maria!

That's a very tough draw against Peer in round onen in Tokyo. :( Peer is a stronger and faster version of Kirilenko which will make theis a very tough match for Makiri. But maybe Masha will play well and Peer will have a letdown after losing that tough quarterfinal match to Serena Williams in the Australian Open.

I have to spread around more reputation. :(
Anyway, it's Aubrey O'Day from a US girl-group called Danity Kane. It says Danity Kane on the ring she's wearing. ;)

Thanks for the info KA. :) Pretty Aubrey looks pretty tough in that photo. :scared: Don't mess with a girl wearing brass knuckles. ;)

Maria's match with Sugiyama is a tricky match. I hope Masha is ready for everything Ai throws at her.

she lost to Sugiyama 3-6, 6-1, 6-3...so no quarterfinal against big masha...she's now playing the doubles with Dushevina, they're 0-1, to Yan/Zheng....

Maria's inability to close out matches when she has the lead is alarming. :banghead: That's a bad loss against Sugiyama. Very frustrating. Especially with a match against Big Masha on the horizon.

A disappointing loss after such a great win yesterday. Maria needs to learn how to follow up big wins more consistently. For that she really needs a coach who can get her prepared both mentally & physically for the follow up match.

Disappointing. I expected a win.

Another victim of an emotional letdown after such a big win over Peer in the 1st round??? Makiri continues to have problems closing out matches after having the lead. Please Makiri, get in contact with David Taylor and hire him back before someone else snags him!;)

I'm sorry lollipop, but I have to disagree. I'm not satisfied with Makiri just getting past the 1st or 2nd round in any tourney she enters regardless how big the wins are. I want to see her go deep into the tourney, to at least get to the semi's or the finals which unfortunately hasn't happened for a long time. Her performances in the majors has been disappointing also. If she can make it to the second week in the slams I would be happy, but constantly losing in the 1st-2nd-3rd rounds is frustrating. She had an excellent opportunity in Pattaya being the 2nd seed and look what happened. I'm just getting sick and tired of these early exits. I want to see a progression in Makiri's results not a regression.:fiery:

I posted that comment at 5:30 in the morning after being up all night so when I am tired I tend to be VERY optimistic :haha:
