Glad to see Evonne back to her senses, and including both Evie and Christina.

I dont think Christina will make the final 4 (Rennae should and will) but its good to be noticed :)

Nicole, Alicia, Evie and Rennae is our best team and it should be left that way :)

At least if Nicole or Alicia get injured, we now have a reputable back up singles player in Evie.

Look... Alicia didn't win a match since last March or February!

???

I dont think you can compare Alicia and Rachel right now. Sorry to say it, but putting Rachel in the team right now is NOT the way to go. Hope she proves me wrong with some good results, but she hasnt so far.

 She is about to found her forms again in two weeks ago... she won some matches in Singles and made semis at Doubles in Birmingham with Lisa McShea! Also, she reached Final Round of Qualifying at Wimbledon including defeated Kristie Boogert!

Dont roll your eyes at me! Geez.

Im just stating the obvious. Dont be so blinded by your bias.

Ask most Aussie fans on this board, who they would rather play for us. Im sure most will pick Alicia over Rachel, as they should. I cant believe we are having this discussion

BTW...I dont see Rachel taking Pierce to 8-6 or keeping a top 75 rank at the moment.

Nicole will only withdraw if someone cuts off her legs...she's committed still...but dont quote me on that.

my friends told me they saw a feature on tv claiming Niccy is out, and that its gonna be a tall order for us with a weaker team..

still i have faith with Evie...she did well and won in straight sets against Switzerland last year so obviously she can hold her nerve pretty well in these type of events and has had a bit of exposure...she had a horrendous draw at Wimbeldon but played decent against Serena, her French campaign was atleast on par with whatever any other aussie produiced

 Evie played a Doubles matches with Rachel McQuillan against Switzerland! She never played a Singles matches in the Federation Cup! I am so suprised that you're huge fan of Evie but don't remember about her results.

Poor Nicole  It must be quite bad.

Alex...he is only human, get over it  Your becoming quite the little shitstirrer.

Yes, I know... we're human :p

Anyway... Alicia Molik Evie Dominikovic in Singles and Stuubs/Wheeler in Doubles? I think good team, I guess

Evonne Cawley should selected Rachel McQuillan for Doubles but the Netherlands is not tough team, anyway ;) but not for Alicia Molik! :o Miriam Oremans had good record against Alicia Molik! :o

The team was released on Wed, so was this announcement after or before it??? Just hoping it's not true..... big hole if Nicole doesn't play.

A bit nervous about Evie, but it is disappointing that she wasn't blooded last year for singles when we played one or two meaningless matches in the year-end finals. Tho this wasn't Evonnes fault as she wasn't captain, there didn't seem much forethought by the out-going captain and selectors maybe. Anyway she's out best bet after Nicole and Alicia so go for it girl.

Have we forgotten Rachel's poor Fed Cup record? Any recent doubles win in Fed Cup have usually been dead rubbers and I still feel ill over her efforts against Russia a few years back.

Wheeler is in Palermo atm, so if Nicole is out will she fly back????? or will Evonne pluck Stosur out (who retired injured during junior Wimbledon), Watson is in Morrocco.... they'll find someone I'm sure.
:p

Couldnt agree with you more louloubelle :)

Even though Evie is my favorite Aussie, I'd much rather Nicole play right now, cos this tie is crucial and I know her experience and her exceptional Fed Cup record will get us through :)

I think that announcement was made after those supposed comments about Nicoles withdrawal...as far as we know, she will play...without her it's a tough one against the super experienced Dutch team.

BTW, Wheeler will propably be here even if she doesnt take part, as she was named in the initial squad.

 Rachel McQuillan beat in-form, Amanda Coetzer in 1997 to wins for Australia! 1997 was Amanda's best season ever!

Also, Rachel McQuillan lost a match against Russia was tight! I think it was 6-8 in the Final Set against Tatiana Panova! This was final rubber! :o I feel sorry for her that she disappointed Aussie people.

TS

Rachels Fed Cup record (according to my rather shaky research) is 6 wins to 18 losses. She has not played a live singles rubber since the Russian disaster in 98 (she did play a dead rubber against Henin last year)...in that tie, she lost to the then inexperienced Panova in straight sets, but the icing on the cake was her 2-6 6-4 12-10 loss to then 16 year old and 400ish ranked Ekaterina Syssoeva.

I dont mean to sound too hard on Rachel. Im just stating the facts. I am a fan of hers, just like I am all of the Aussies. She has had a solid, if unspectacular, career and has done her share for Aussie womens tennis over the past decade and a bit. But its obvious her best days are behind her and we should now focus on the younger girls like Alicia, Evie and Christina to name a few.

Lets stop this bickering, and just look forward to the tie next weekend.
