Today the weather was a welcome relief from the previous hot day. The sun hardly ever came out and it wasn't that hot at all. A lot of matches were completed including ones held over from the day before.

Serena Williams def Kremer

I saw the end of the first set and the start of the 2nd. Serena was playing ok but still making a few too many UEs. Kremer was also playing well and matching Serena. In the TB Kremer was up 4-2 but Serena lifted her game and took the next 5 points to win the set. In the 2nd set Serena continued to play well and got an early break. Serena's shots all looked very powerful, her serve was good, but there were many UEs and she didnt look as fast as she normally is.

Hantuchova def Cornet

I saw the start of this match. Hantuchova just had too much power for Cornet, who didnt play too badly.

Peng def Klepac

Peng looked good and was hitting some great shots. Klepac was very impressive too, she was better than I thought she would be. She was powerful and had excellent touch, hitting some great dropshots. She played very well to take the 2nd set, but Peng lifted her game to run away with the 3rd.

Harkleroad def Yuan
Ashley was in excellent form. She played very aggressive, hit a lot fo winners, and came to the net to finish points a lot. Meng wasnt at her best, but wasnt too bad and was just outplayed by Ashley.

Paszek def Bremond

Tamira continued her great form from quallies, and dominated play with her powerful flat shots. Bremond played really bad though, and missed most of her shots.

Li def Bovina

This was an excellent match, with both players playing well. Both were hitting very hard and playing aggressively and the winner was the one who made less UEs. I'm happy with the way Elena played considering shes recently come back. She served very well, it was just her groundstrokes that were inconsistent. She was grunting very loudly, it could be heard from a few courts away!

Azarenka def Bartoli

I didnt see too much of this, but Marion looked very overweight :o

Loit def Rezai

Rezai hit very hard and made a lot of winners, especially on the backhand. However she matched each winner with an UE. Loit played very well and stayed solid, while Rezai was inconsistent. Rezai was puffing a lot in the 3rd set, so it looks like a problem with her fitness. She was getting distressed and arguing with the umpire about line calls.

Safarova def Schiavone

Just saw the last few games of this. Safarova was playing well, and dictating with her power game. Schiavone was not her usual consistent self, and didnt get a lot of balls back into play. Lucie played really well except for a wobble at the end when she got tight closing it out.

Thursday

Today started off cloudy and not very hot, and rain at the start delayed play for about 1.5 hrs. So I started off in Vodafone and watched the Hingis match. After that the outside courts started, so I headed out there. The sun came out, it started to heat up and was very hot for the rest of the day.

Hingis def Kudryavtseva

Hingis was excellent and did not miss. She was just too good for Alla and it was a one sided match which was never in doubt. Alla would sometimes play great points but miss the last shot.

Ivanovic def Radwanska
Ana generally played well, and when she did, she was just too good and had too much power for Aga. At the end of the 2nd set Ana went off the boil and hit lots of UEs especially on return, and Aga was able to take the set. In the 3rd set Ana cleaned up her game though, and ran through it easily.

Hantuchova def Loit

I saw the 3rd set, it was a tough fight with many deuce games. Hantuchova was more powerful but inconsistent, and Loit played clever points, using her slice and dropshots well to confound Daniela. Daniela had the early break, but Loit broke back. Daniela again got the advantage and closed it out. There wasnt much in this match, and Daniela will have to pick up her game as she played poorly.

Schnyder def Peng

This match was played quite late, and there was hardly anyone in the crowd, as they were all watching the men's night matches. It was a big court that was nearly empty with hardly anyone was clapping for winners. I watched the 2nd set and it was pretty even and on serve till 2-3 when Peng just went off the boil and hit UE after UE. Patty just had to put the ball back into court and Peng self destructed for the rest of the set and lost it.

Nakamura def Mirza

Aiko was on fire again for this match, and again hit close to the lines without missing much, and hit a lot of clean winners. Mirza wasnt playing well and made a lot of UEs, but she was under pressure from Aiko's great play.

Li def Dominguez Lino

Lourdes was no match for Li and had nothing to hurt her with. Li was just too powerful and dominated the play without making too many UEs.
