New thread for better luck - not a bed idea...

Ana will have a lot of time to prepare for this tournament. She made two wins on every of three tournaments of this year and I`ll be glad if she makes that in Japan (she`ll be probably 5th seed and needs two wins against girls out of top20) becaues this is tierI tournament with a lot of points and every win now when she plays bad will be important for the better position for upcoming tournaments

yes, the field doesn't look impressive... I mean in terms of players outside of the seeded spots. For the time being I'd be pleased if she keeps her 2-matches-won-per-tournament streak :o

Uhm, I don't check this forum for a few hours and people already making a mess of it. Don't fight when I'm not here cause I'll find out anyway ;)

Yes, Ana lost her 14th place. But like Ana said, the most important thing is improving then the results will come. (not that I see that much improving now).
Ana lost this year to Peer, Vaidisova and Zvonareva. They are all still in!

I see improvement, I honestly do and that’s probably why it’s so hard to see her have such shocking performances like she did against Vera. As I said she is hitting the ball from lower on the court and her backhand is much improved. And she also looks in pretty good shape. Her movement and shot selection are the two big aspects she needs to improve though, and there is still a long way to go there. I think Taylor has altered her serving style to prevent shoulder injuries down the line, and although her serve currently isn’t at it’s strongest, in the long run I think it will be fine.

DAVAJ MKirilenko
Jan 21st, 2007, 02:30 PM
Yes, can be true. I would say that she looks in a good shape, but she's not fast enough. In several points against Vera and also last week she lost too many unnecessary points. A little more speed gives her more time to avoid these errors. But then again it's actually a part of her game to take the balls fast even when she has time.
Ana herself said her game improved so I have to believe it.
I won't have high expectation in the near tournaments. That's actually better cause I'll be less dissapointed then if she lose.

Youíre right, I do see improvements. She is slowly improving her game and her backhand is a much better shot that it has been in the past. And her altered serving style will reduce the chances of injury down the track. Obviously the results havenít been too good lately so itís hard to gauge exactly how much sheís improved, but believe it or not I do see some positives.

Not that I didn't see much improvement, but I didn't see them at all.
Her game is the same. She maybe did CHANGE some stuff, but CHANGE doesn't mean it is changed to better... She is still playing "two shots game", her FH is still the same, she is still strugiling to get her serve in, BH hasn't improved much, it's still "bad" part of her game...

Change's maybe...Improvement NO WAY...

Ok lets see...

1st Round: Perry, easy win in theory.
2nd Round: Nakamura/Santangelo, shouldn't cause too many problems.
Quarter Final: Jankovic. In good form, but we can only judge her on her last match and she was average.
Semi Final: Sharapova. Let's just say if she makes it this far in a Tier I event, it's a good result. ;)

That's why I like this draw, she will (should) cruise past her first two opponents and therefore I will be happy when she makes the QF's. ;)

But that would be the same old story. Win two matches against poor opponents and then lose convincingly when she plays someone good. It's about time she had a break through win against a quality opponent.

I don't know why people complaining about the draw. I think it's not looking all that bad. What is it that you want? She can better playing ITF so she always has a nice draw?
And when she finally is winning a tournament, people start complaining that the draw has too easy.
If Ana wants to improve then she has to beat anybody no matter what the draw is.

In the 1st round she will face Perry (H2H 2-0). 2nd round can be Santangelo (H2H 1-0) or Nakamura (H2H 2-0). So it looks really good on paper.

I am actually!
I didn't look at all at first who she plays in her first 2 rounds... I looked at her potential QF opponent. I hoped she got Hingis or Dementiewa... Janković is crap to play that early IMHO.

And I don't care what people say about her draws, that the field is deflated and all that shit. She got lucky with the draw once and used her chance to the maximum... actually at first it was a tough one too! (QF vs Clijsters!). She gets usually the hardest draws, but yeah no excuses... she should REstart winning matches vs Top players. :o

But I just stated that draw isn't way to good. Cause JJ isn't someone you would wan't in yours section... Especially when we know that JJ cna force million UE from Ana, cause she plays like Zvonareva, only with lesser UE :)

I like the draw a lot... No more excuses for Ana and she should as what she can do without a coach if she fires him... I don't think the 1st two matches are terribly easy, I think the are both certainly ones she should win and if she does the score would be giving at least 5 games to her opponent so a good way to start a tournament (I never like when my girls start with "easy" opponents on paper) and then JJ.... Well I love the QF coz Ana needs to start beating JJ and players like her... If she loses to Masha, Kim or Amelie I think we can all understand that and move on BUT if she wants to be the best and start improving she needs to start beating players ranked around her, such as JJ... And if she did beat Jelena I think we would all be stoked and coz THAT is what she is capable of and THAT is what she needs to show everyone she can do!

It will be interesting to see how her serve differs from when she was with Taylor. I thought he altered her serving action, probably to prevent shoulder injuries down the track, and as a result she has struggled on serve lately. I wonder what approach she will take now that sheís on her own.

After the win against Jankovic, Ana said that during the game she was thinking about her game, which included staying low. That was the main thing I noticed at the Australian Open, the fact that she is staying lower now, especially off the backhand. It really is a great sign, and whilst the results didnít come in Australia, they were bound to arrive.

I just see the result now.
I was following it from the begining till 3-6 6-4 5-2 DEUCE.
The whole day at work I was wondering if Ana made it or not.
I would be quiet for hours if she lost in that position.

I'm really happy!!! CONGRATS girl. Finally another semifinal. :worship: :worship: :worship:  :smooch:

And:

Did you know that this is her 1st Tier I after Montreal? Remember the score in the 1st round there? 6-4 6-2!
Who did she 'meet' in the 3rd round there? Jankovic. Who's her possible opponent in 3rd round here?
;) :p

And I can add that a final against Hingis is still possible!

At this moment I would say that Ana really has a chance to beat Maria. She nothing like the last few months of 2006.
In this tournament she has 31 double faults in 2 matches. More than Ana has aces.

Whenever she won in QF in last 2 years she won tournament
Whenever she played in WTA final she won
Whenever she played against Martina she won... ;)

It is nothing important, only important thing for Ana to have 1st serve over 60% and that would be enough.

No matter what Ana does in final this is great tournament for her. She broke QF curse, served excellent during whole tournament, wins against Jelena and Maria (I think this is sweetest wins for her) and maybe the most important thing is she won 2 matches after losing 1st set.

I will watch the match live in 4,5 hours, but sadly I won't be able to record it (cause ES2 is not yet programmed in hours dvd-recorder). Hopefully ES1 will show the whole re-live match this time.
Ana, I know you can do it. Serve like you did the last days and let your FH speak again then the title is yours!

It's become pretty clear now. If Ana serves well, she wins. If she doesnít serve well, chances are she will lose. Statistics show that she served poorly today with only 1 ace and 4 double faults. When Ana is serving like that she wonít win too many matches against the top players.

The first set was extremely tight until she served at 4-4. She lost 8 consecutive points to lose the set; that really is poor. I was reasonably confident about todayís match as she has been in terrific form and I didnít think Hingis would have the ability to match it with Anaís power. But I was completely wrong, she was completely outclassed.

A great tournament but a very disappointing finish. Now comes the interesting part, will she improve her consistency or will her next tournament reap mediocre results? Time will tellÖ

Hmm I actually didn't expect this.
Ana had actually problems with her serve the whole match. Only 1 ace.
15 UE's in the first 3 games, but after that she was really fighting and hit winners. But still problems on her serve. And from 4-3, Hingis won 19 points in a row. 2nd set started awful. DF, UE, DF and DF. Then you could cleary see that the fighting was gone, lots of UE's and go for winners in impossible positions. It was also that Hingis was playing better and better.
Ana wasn't really in the match today. But I don't know what happend with the fighting. It was just gone. Trying to play different which was unnecessary.

Totally 25 winners and 36 UE's. Hingis 14/12 I guess.
The serve just wasn't good today.

Afterall a good tournament of course with nice matches. Hopefully she can continues this in Antwerp.

Yep that's right.
She played already Goldcoast, Sydney, Australian Open and Tokyo so this is actually her 1st week off.

I'm GOING TO ANTWERP!

That is what I want to see gone from her game. Going for winners from impossible positions is something we see all too often, this must to be worked on.

And 36 UE's in 2 sets? Oh dear that's a massive amount. :o

Couldn`t agree more.

So much UE`s... 19 points in a row.

Anyway, excellent tournament for Ana, I hope she`ll be more consistent and reach another final very soon.

This is not that hard to understand. Ana's serve & FH are her major weapons. If she has 2-3 comfortable service games then she feels confident and even if later in the match she has problems with her serve she can hold it together, tough it out and win. If her service game falls apart, she has no plan B.

So far her service games in her matches can be described as:

vs Zwonariewa -> :help: :banghead: :weirdo: :hysteric: :bigcry: :scared:
description: broken in her 1st game, furious with herself, fear in her eyes, even tears... collapse
vs Janković -> :yeah:  ;) :yeah: :yeah: :rocker2: :rocker2: :fiery: :fiery: :rocker2: :woohoo:
description: easy 1st service game, then broken but she didn't let it get into her and toughed it out serving aces all over the place!
vs Maria is the only one smiley ->

Im just watching it on ES... How on Earth did she lose? She had the momentum @ 3-2 15-*0 couple of silly errors then. :(

Her serve is very important. If the serve goes well then she mostly get a shot to make a winner in 1 or 2 shots. When the serve doesn't go well she also goes for winners when it's not possible which let to UE's. With a good serve you will see many winners and less UE's which also leads to more confidence and probably less UE's in the return games.
Even tough she didn't play great today there are also good things. Backhand isn't such weak as it was and the defending slice backhand goes also better. Which I consider as playing smarter. 1 example you can see in the match today, when Hingis hit a dropshot, Ana goes to the net and place a nice slice and the backhand of Hingis goes out.

Ana is really improving, but she has to put everything together and then repeat that more than once.

LOL, they skipped a lot on ES1. They didn't show the really bad games.
At the end of the match Ana played a bit better, but at 4-1 40-30 she wanted to go for winner when she wasn't even in position. 4-2 and there was a little chance. With 5-1 it was over.
A lucky backhand winner (which looked wonderful) at 5-1 30-0.

it's a pity she couldn't win the tournament, but it was a good week for her and i'm satisfied. let's hope this was her big week once a year and that she will have several good runs at tournaments, hopefully at grand slams as well.

Well can't say I am not extremely happy (despite the dodgy final) but I was also gonna be VERY happy and stoked if she beat JJ... :bounce:
And I didn't really stay away all week, I keot getting a few minutes on to check the score, I couldn't stay away from Ana :awww: :p

BUT I just want to warn u all not to get too excited about this... The way I see it Ana, always has a sudden burst of exciting energy after a coaching change and to me thats what Montreal was and what last week was too... Not to say she hasn't improved but don't be surprised if she hasn't as well... I'm with Ana all the way no matter what though
For any wondering, yes I was supporting Ana in the semis and pretty much in the final too
