Ana lost the last TWO SETS, but she was evenly matched in winners by her opponent. She just made some bad UFEs. Even if she hadn't she would have been pushed. Come on, this is a 15 year-old starting her first full year as a pro.

If the ball is on her backhand it's gonna be cross-court. If she's on the running it's gonna be cross-court too (from both wings). She could hit a couple of backhands DTL per match or half a dozen forehands DTL but that's all...

If she was so predictable she'd surrender far more easily against the top players and never beat them. Unless her predictable game is just that good. She can change it up, and she does sometimes, but yes, she definitely isn't the strongest tactician around. Still, it's enough to keep her in the top 10 for nearing four years in a row now.

Her match in Antwerp against Clijsters, she changed it up beautifully. Clijsters just caught onto it after the first set. :/

She's playing a player who had mp's against her vs Kim and Maria, and won.
Serena is an unusually good player. A great talent, even if her results recently don't reflect that.
So, Nadia joins a list of good players who couldn't finish against Serena.
It means she gets a few days off, and less wear and tear on her body.
It's super hot today, and humid. These players will feel a toll from going deep in this tournament. Grueling weather.

Here's the reality of the top ten right now:

Serena's back.
Alicia Molik's back.
Venus is coming back.
Vaidisova's back into the top ten.
Jankovic is either in the top ten or within a few points.
Golovin, Ivanovic, Li, Peer and Chakvetadze have all made great progress and are still teenagers (well Li isn't, but she has to deal with Chinese regulations, so her career was messed up.)

Pretty obviously, Schnyder isn't hanging around the top ten, and it is pretty safe to say that Safina's top ten stint was flukey, so that takes care of Jankovic and Vaidisova's spots. However, at least one, if not two or three or four of the others will return or enter the top ten soon. Petrova loses to a lot of lower ranked players. Dementieva loses to slightly fewer, but beats significantly fewer top players. Mathematically, something has got to give, and I think it's most likely going to be Dementieva, then Petrova. They both have obvious weaknesses (serve/mental toughness.)

Maria may be #1 but maybe the most impressive Russian was AnaP, who won a 2nd consecutive AO Juniors crown. She also had a WC to the Qualies and got to the 3rd round there.

There were 22 Russians in the draw, but most failed to get past the 3rd round. Petrova had the opportunity to take out Serena, she failed, and the rest is history.

What do you think of the Russian women overall, or how your favs did?

The Russians were coming for a few years now. They really should be dominating at this point consistently. With about 100 of them at the beginning of each grand slam, you would think the probablity of one winning the Slam would be a sure bet. I don't know, with many now saying that Maria lost yesterday to nerves, I think they should go back to the drawing board and add mental conditioning to their programs. :)
