Who do you think has the toughest draw??And who has the easiest?

Easiest draw, Sveta. If she's healthy, she'll breeze into the 4th round, to play Peer or Golovin.
Toughest, Bardina. She just played in a final, and draws Kim in round 1.

Yes Sharapova has an exceedingly easy draw until the SFs. Schnyder is a good player but doesn't beat the players ranked above her often. If Sharapova doesn't make the semis I'd be incredibly shocked.

She played Molik in RG-2006.
She played Linetskaya, Rezai, Chakvetadze in RG-2005.
She played Krajicek, Likhovtseva, Li Na, Golovin in US-2006
She even played Jankovic in US-2004.

But there were always "easiest draws".

i wonder why Federer always has "easy draw"? :-)

Yes, Sharapova's quarter is very weak, giving her a fairly easy run all the way to the semis where she'll play the winner of Clijsters' quarter which is probably the toughest.

Safina's draw is pretty awful, Na Li in 3rd round, Hingis in 4th, Clijsters in quarters... Ivanovic's draw is nasty too.

Maria has dangerous floaters like Stosur, Ivanovic, Zvonareva, Peng, Schnyder and Chakvetadze up to the QF.

Look at Momo's draw. Ridiculously easy. Only Dementieva who sucks on rebound ace and Vaidisova are in her quarter.

Molik is not tough on clay.
Linetskaya is a tough first round, but Rezai and Chakvetadze were not nearly as dangerous in 2005 as they are now.
Krajicek never challenges top players, Likhovtseva was in a slump and the lowest possible seed she could draw in the third round, she got number 24 Li in the 4th round, and number 27 Golovin in the quarters...thats pretty much a dream draw.
Again, in 2004 Jankovic was no where near the player she is today.

Sharapova has had pretty easy draws through out her career, though its not her fault.

I think their about equal. Mauresmo potentially has Vaidisova in the QFs while Sharapova has Schnyder, but Sharapova could also have to deal with Clijsters in the SF, while Mauresmo has a sick Kuznetsova.

I agree - and Elena's draw is easy, too.

I don't think potentially facing Chakvatadze, Ivanovich, Zvonareva, Peng, and Patty Schneider is all THAT easy but you know how WTAworld is obsessed with Masha!;)

Sharapova, as the case with every slam.

Yeah, for sure.

In 2005 she played Karatancheva,Farina Elia, Na Li, Kuznetsova before loosing against Serena in the sf
Last year she played Hantuchova(she was due to play Serena instead), Petrova before JHH.
Not that easy to me.

Instead of complaing about Sharapova's easy draw, look at Momo's. Sveta is injured, so is Nadia.

Maria's draw seems easy because there aren't many players that can beat her at the moment so, even though she'll have to face (probably) strong opponents like Zvonareva/Ivanovic in the 4r and Chakvetadze/Schnyder in the QF, people thinks that she has an easy draw. But it's not easy!

Easiest : Sharapova, until she meets Clijsters in the semis, that is.

There aren't many players outside of the top 5 who ever beat Sharapova in a tournament and if she loses to anyone but Clijsters in this tournament, I would be quite surprised. In the open, she had to face Li, Golovin who gave a her a hard match in Miami, and then Henin and Mauresmo. I don't know how that constitutes as a easy. Plus this whole board sees some wild potential in Ivanovic which I don't see and Anna C closed the year out strong and this year has produced a decent start for her. I don't think it's easy at all. Doesn't seem like objectivity is a popular thing around these forums. Safna and Jankovic have tough draws. Amelie and Sveta have excellent draws. Vaidisova and Dementieva's draws are quite interesting.

Easiest draw is as usual Maria Sharapova until semis. (Patty can trouble her with her drop shots and top spin shots. Clijisters is likely to beat her SF's. :p )

I don't know why people are saying Mauresmo is having easy draws. Sugiyama, Vaidisova,Schiavone, Lena D are tough opponents.

Martina has got the toughest draw.

But i'm not going going to complain about the draw. This draw is very good. :yeah:

I tend to agree with you.
It's a little unfair imo to say that Maria S. has the easiest
draw while leaving A. Mauresmo out of the discussion.

Both the #1 and #2 seeds seem to have easy draws, although the
bottom half does even look weaker.

A simple explanation could be that too many big names are missing.
Multiple GS champions like JHH, L. Davenport, V. Williams, and one
slam winner A. Myskina are not playing.

Considering that JHH is the current best female tennisplayer in the
world, evidently a slam loses a lot of it's attraction and competitiveness,
when that player is not participating.
Every player who has been named as a favourite to win this slam after
Justine withdrew, has been beaten by the latter the last time they played -
(Sharapova, Mauresmo, Clijsters and Jankovic).
Automaticly, JHH's withdrawel decreases the quality of the draw tremendously.

Unfortunately enough, the draw also consists of out of form multiple GS
winner, S. Williams - an injured N. Petrova, and S. Kuznetsova suffering
from bronchitis.

And there you have it. One of the weakest fields ever for a Grand Slam.
I'm not happy with this either, but it's just the way it is right now.

Vamos.
Jan 12th, 2007, 10:34 PM
Amelie has a nice draw, though Vaidisova could really, really give her trouble. Dementieva and Nicole are two of the players that could, possibly, blitz Amelie off the court with their groundstrokes if she is having a bad day. She needs to be in good form by those QF if she is to progress. Maria, on the other hand, is through to the SF, end of story. After that her draw is harder - Amelie drawing an unreliable Sveta or a fatigued Jelena - facing probably Cljisters.

It depends what you view as an easy draw:

guarenteed to get through to the SF but then have a very, very tough opponent there

or guarenteed to reach the QF where trouble is lurking but after that quite possibly a Final

depends where your convictions lie I suppose, I tend to find the first one easier: once you are at the Semi-Final stage you have already played yourself into form and are rarely going to get an easy match regardless of the opponent.

BTW, Henin was the one with the easy draws last year and certainly part of the reason she reached those four Finals!

True.

Why people overlook Amelie, I have no idea. She got a relatively good draw that could get her to the finals even when she says she feels unprepared. Really good for her.

I think some here really wanna believe there's a conspiracy to really get Maria the supposedly best/easy draws.

Anyway, bottom line, with JHH out of contention and basing on 2006 performance, Maria is the most consistent player in the draw. One expects to see her at the end as erratic play and upsets aren't really part of her vocabulary. Realistically speaking, I think the only player most expect to challenge Maria (a lot of times out of ten) at her level now is Kim and when this is the case, any draw is gonna be easy (i.e. given a hypothetical match-up, it's possible most would choose Kim to win which I don't see would be the situation for others). Anyway, already getting Kim in her half is a draw spoiler in itself. They both lead the favorite list.

Justine really left a hole in the draw. I loved it when each of the top four had their own quarter to take care of - Maria, Kim, Amelie, and Justine - with the others just being challengers and threats. It was more balanced that way.
