What a crazy match!!!

Jelena served for the match in the 2nd set at *5-4 and *6-5. She even got a MP at *5-4 but her usual choke let Kim back. Jelena totally tanked in the TB (7-1) and the beginning of the 3rd set, until 4-0. Then Jelena won a game and started her race back to 4-3, but it was too late, Kim was still on!

They both look exhausted!

If they're not too tired, I swear one of them will win the AO. It was an amazing match.

Well done Kim!!

Even though I haven't seen the match yet, looks like Kim's serve is still way off at times and that will really have to change if she's going to win the AO - the likes of Maria, Hingis and the other top players who don't suffer from Jankovic type nerves, will not let Kim get away with it ;)

Still, bloody great start to the season for Kim and it really bodes well :D

jelena  she played out of her mind to push kimmie to the limit & she should be proud with the week she has had as well as well as the week in Auckland. that proves that jelena is one tough cookie & that she will be challenging the top players within a short amount of time. congrats jelena :clap2:

Hostile? I think that the Serb fans were really quite disruptive to Kim, cheering her faults and errors, and calling out during points. To their credit though, they really made the atmosphere electric.

Kim made a few too many unforced errors today and it nearly cost her with Jankovic UNBELIEVABLY consistent from the ground. I also don't think Jelena needs to hit the ball harder; she makes such a low amount of errors it's unbelievable. And this has proven a success to this point.

this is another learning curve for jelena! If she wants to hang with the big babes of tennis shes gotta learn to control her temper and not let her concentration go away if something occurs that she doesnt believe to be right. She lets it lurk around for a bit - then its too late.

Clijsters is so going to win the AO.
When she is moving, fighting and defending this well, only the consistent power hitters can stop her. Those hitters are either out (Justine, Venus, Davenport) or not in form (Serena, Maria).

Congrats to Kim, really a great match and she is a great person, too bad she will retire.

Jelena...oh dear sweet Jelena...When there's a bad call, just put a block in your head, dont get upset. Rest now and play your best at AO. I'm not saying final...like some people...give it a quarter final for a start and i'll be happy.

Serbian fans amazing at momments and then rude at momments too. If Jelena can take a defeat in style so can you. Just support her, dont go against her opponent.

Australian crowds are traditionally VERY fair, so please, don't say that they aren't because they are so supportive.

And the majority of them of didn't shout between first and second serves for Kim, or in between points.

End of discussion, as you've obviously annoyed peopel in the past before, given your black report card under your nick.

I was volunteering tonight. What an insane, crazy, fabulous time. I can't believe I got to see that for free.

On the Serbian fans. It got a little crazy. There was a flag or something they had put up, and some other people pulled it down, and this guy went absolutely nuts and broke one of the doors on centre court. And after Kim won the second set, someone started a fire in the mens bathroom. Like wtf? It's a tennis match.

Jelena seemed absolutely exhausted at the end. She actually sat down on the court during the presentation. Nevertheless, she had an amazing week and was absolutely a gem when I got to speak to her. I just hope she is able to rest up for the Aus Open.

Kim was just outstanding. As a fan, I was just so happy. Her speech at the end was so sad. I can't believe she wont play again in Sydney. But if Kim retiring means she's going to play with passion like this, then she will have an amazing year.

It's fine that this commentator is biased and that the crowd was rooting for Kim however the manner in which they do it, by discrediting Jelena and her supporters, is unprofessional.

It also seems to have rubbed off on some of the posters here.

Went home for lunch and saw the last games on Eurosport.
I loved how many people in the crowd were cheering Kim on. Great rally at matchpoint and she finished it with such a fine shot. Afterwards she fell on her knees. I have rarely seen her react so happy after a win.
I'm sure Kim will take the plane for Melbourne with a heavy feeling in her heart. So many beautiful memories she has of the wonderful city that Sydney is.

It's fine that this commentator is biased and that the crowd was rooting for Kim however the manner in which they do it, by discrediting Jelena and her supporters, is unprofessional.

It also seems to have rubbed off on some of the posters here.

Oh God.

1) Get your facts right. Kerryn said that Jelena WANTED to take up acting, not that she SHOULD.
2) I bet you haven't even heard the commentary from Kerryn. She is in fact VERY unbiased and in fact she RAVES on about what a true star Jelena will be.

So don't go calling someone who has done a terrific job over the years "unprofessional" to assuage your bitter wounds from Jelena losing.

Every now and then your favourites will lose. Get over it.

I like Jelena and she wouldn't want one of her supporters being so difficult, like you.

Congrats to Kimmie :clap2: :worship: :woohoo: first WTA title of 2007, Australia Open is next  Get some rest and good luck in Melbourne. Can't wait to see her on tv

Jelena :sobbing: a fantastic week nonetheless but she still is mentally fragile when it comes to closing out top players. She will definitely come into Melbourne with a ton of confidence and match tough. Good luck, i'm anticipating great things from her there :yeah:

Being a Belgian, I really had tears in my eyes when our Kimmie gave her speech. I also thought it was so incredibly nice of the tournament directors and sponsors that they gave Kim a little something to say goodbye. I think I can speak for many when I say we're all going to miss her: not only because she is such a good player, but also because she is such a nice person.

And that is exactly why I was very upset about the behaviour and reactions of the Serbian fans in the crowd. What was that all about?! The shouting and singing when Kim was about to serve, the loud and inappropriate HAHA when Kim missed a serve and the most disgusting moment: the noise during her speech. Talking bout disrespect.

Kimmy :hearts: Wasn't playing her best, but she dug deep and fought her way out of trouble. All bodes great for the AO.

Jelena  She's shown that her game has really come together. Once she gets mentally tough, she won't lose these matches.

yes the serbs were rowdy and rude (on some occasions even making me feel embarassed to be a serb), but the larger crowd suppporting kim weren't exactly the best representation of a fair crowd either. Cheering on Jelena's double faults and errors when the majority of specators were against her wasn't nice. regardles it was still a fantastic match with Kim fully deserving the win. hopefully jelena can take some positives from the match coming so close to a win. Also if Kim stays this motivated for the rest of the year, she'll be very tough to beat.

I thought JJ did well despite the very hostile crowd and some dodgy calls. She'll have to work more on hitting the ball harder.
What a ridiculous comment. The Serbian supporters were the ones cheering after every fault Clijsters served including one guy who was LAUGHING after she faulted. And you thought the crowd was hostile towards JJ?

I'm sure this commenator forgot to mention the incomparably louder Australian fans who were cheering Jelena's every double fault and unforced error.

But Serb fans made them do that, it was a reaction to effect. so we can say, indirectly Serb fans damaged their own fav...

Cong. to Kim, well come back.
At Jankovic side, it was almost the same as USO SF against justine. Very good tennis but she had to learn something from that match...

What a match!! What a fight!! Yes, Jelena should have finished out, she kind of beat herself a bit, but during the match point she didn't choke, Kim just played better, it was in the tie break Jelena's serve collapsed...

Great fighter, that Jelena, amazing stuff she showed us, she's a star, she'll be top 3 one day for sure. All respect to her.

Yes, the Australian crowd turned against Jelena in the end, but the Jelena fans have only themselves to blame for that, it was a reaction to their behaviour :)

And yes, it was a great match, and not an unforced error festival like some say. I enjoyed watching it so much, though I was dead nervous. What a fight, from BOTH of them :)

Asi said before....Serb crowd really needed to focus on supporting Jelena and not booing Clijsters...that was really rude...Instead of helping Jelena when she was tanking they kept waiting for Clijsters errors....disguisting really.

But what really makes me angry is number of bad line calls against Jelena, it keeps happening match after match, but she should really just say to her: F*ck that point less win the next...instead she just goes down. She shouldnt play that deep at key points. Here defense in excellent...but at times she is just too much defensive. Her serve got better then last year..but she has to make it even better.

I'm really sorry Kim will retire after thise season, i hope she chages her mind. She's got the fitness the shots, i just cant belive she cant play 15 tournaments a year, She just needs too pick the right ones, and she can be on top again.

Jelena Best luck at Ao...reach quarters atleast :). Serbia's proud of ya!

Saw the match live. Was sitting in front of some pro-Serbian fans and some more fans of Jelena's were sitting in the front row of our stand.

I'm all for cheering for your player between games and points and all, but jeez it got irritating. Especially during Kim's speech when she was being very gracious to the Serbian fans and then they made noise throughout her speech even when she politely asked for a minute to speech. Seriously, there's a time and place for everything and booing and shouting out during serves doesn't help their cause any. The elderly couple next to me tried to yank one of their flags but just incited them further.

That nitpick aside, it was an incredibly exciting match. Quality-wise, too many breaks of serve, but the tension towards the end of the second set was palpable. After one of those questionable linecalls and the blown match point Jelena seemed to lose focus and just wasn't in it and Kim raced through the tiebreak.

I was hoping the 3rd set would also be competitive, but Kim almost ran away with the match. So happy Jelena fought back near the end. But when Kim won there was a collective elation and we all jumped to our feet.

Very exciting and good to see the graciousness of both players in their speeches. LMAO Jelena was so cute when she couldn't remember the names of the other tournament sponsors besides Medibank.

She was fighting brilliantly in this match that´s true, but she doesn´t show this fight when she plays Henin. That´s what dissapointed me about Clijsters last year. Especially the match at RG. I wish she showed the same fighting spirit in her matches against Henin.

How often does the ATP/WTA circus come to Sydney ? Once a year.

How often do the Sydney Serbs get to cheer their own ? First time.

So the football crowd turns up and maybe gets a bit over exuberant. So what ? They never crossed the line that's the main thing. Even Kim complemented the fans and the "football match" atmosphere (and prompty got booed for it: priceless, btw). Serious over reaction from some of the posters.

What I find particularly annoying is that certain posters, like this DevilishAttitude character, use this as a platform to spew out their racist hate-filled nonsense. His appalling spelling suggests that he's probably not even English.

Wow, dramatic match!

Well done Kim :worship: :D

But yet again Jelena's temperament failed her.

Good fight, Kimmie! :woohoo:

This only reinforces my believe that you are striving to end your career with a splash. :D

Jelena, love your game, I hope you will go far at the AO. (You really should have made the final at the US Open though! :( ) :worship:

Why everyone's surprised at the Serbians. There consisently rude on here, what do you expect on the outside. They obviously don't have any class. And it's the same wherever.

And Jelena is perfect for them to use to boo other people with her extreme acting.

Having said that, I hope Jelena does well.

Yes, the Serb fans were naughty. Lets not drag Jelena into it because of it and Kim is a big enough champion to rise above the barracking. We are in no position to criticise other fans lack of class - English football supporters are the biggest assholes of the lot.

the double faults, especially in the tie break really cost jelena. she needs her ball toss to be a little higher and more in front of her, so she can really use her legs and get into it. and she needs to stop having a go at the umpire and linespeople when she gets a bad call. fair enough, she did get some shitty calls but complaining just put her off her rhythm. she also needs to learn how to volley properly. and stop hitting inside out backhands. once she sorts those out she will be unbeatable :)

It was a fantastic match and it really took it out of them! It was so nice at the end when they just both threw their raquets down and hugged each other. I was out there and it was PACKED. The crowd got pretty bad at times and people were calling 'out' in the middle of points and it got so frustrating. They had 4 cops there, but they didn't do much. Jelena couldn't even stand up at the end! She had to get herself a chair. I hope she'll recover enough for the open. She should. But great match from both!

You know. I am really not in the mood for your England hate bullshit.

You should be ashamed to be British.

And I have already said that. READ THE FUCKING POSTS.

And JustDoIt, I didn't mean all Serbians were booing.

Wow... i was at the match, it was amazing, well done to Kim for pulling it out! :worship: When Jelena had that match point I thought it would be over, but Kim fought back so well :bounce:

I'm disappointed with the crowd behaviour though... I'm sure its been discussed here already. I've never been to a match in Australia where I've heard so much booing :( I guess a lot of Serbian fans bought tickets because of Jelena, I'm sure a lot of the more roudy ones had never been to a tennis match before and so they didn't know how to act. The fans who I saw there during the week (at both Jelena's and Ana's matches) were ok (maybe because the event staff kept a close watch on them) but there were some fans who were just extremely rude and I believe that provoked those supporting Kim to retaliate by cheering loudly whenever Kim won a point, even when it was from a mistake by Jelena

Hey don't worry there were people in the crowd at the match yelling out for people to shut up  I even saw a Serbian fan do it. They were just out of control at times

What an amazing match.
What I noticed in this match is that there could be another reason for leaving the tour.
Clijsters says she can't deal with the grind anymore, I believe that's because these players are getting harder and harder to beat.
I don't believe a healthy Clijsters would be in the top 10 at the end of 2008.

The growth is there in the backhand but those volleys of hers might be the worse of any of the top 10 players right now.

ki'm is really double fautling up a storm this week. but some great shotmaking when she needed it, like usual. :p

jelena shows more signs of mental weakness. she chokes away a tier 2 final and we're picking her to win the ao. she needs to mature a bit mentally, first.

Really fantastic match.

One of my friends who pretty much doesn't care about Women's tennis apart from Hingis even said he was getting pretty into this one.

Jelena probably should have closed this out, but Kim fought brilliantly. Good news for Jelena is her intensity in her play doesn't look like it has dropped at all throughout the week. So maybe she's not as tired as she appears.

Guess Masha won't be in the top ten at the end of 2008 then.

Great match, Jankovic really should have won but choked as usual :o

I think Kim will be fine for the AO, but Jankovic will be physically too tired. She has very badly blistered feet, an adductor strain and a back twinge, and she hasn't even started the AO then! However Jankovic has a great future and will surely win some Slams if she keeps up this form.

The Australian organizers have arranged it so that Jelena plays on the first day straight after her three-match marathon week in Sydney.

Australians have a history of this kind of thing dating back to Jelena Dokić's rigged draw.
