Good news. Anna is feeling good.
HOBART, Australia -- Top-seeded Anna Chakvetadze beat fellow Russian Vasilia Bardina 6-3, 7-6 (3) to win the Hobart International Friday.
The 19-year-old Chakvetadze came into the final with a pulled stomach muscle, but was able to complete the match despite showing some signs of discomfort in the first set.
"I feel good, I feel OK, almost 100 percent." said Chakvetadze. "It didn't bother me at all."
Ckakvetadze said she did not plan to celebrate after her win.
"I have a flight at six in the morning tomorrow, so probably I'll sleep all day and then have a practice on Sunday," Chakvetadze said of her plans to fly to Melbourne and next week's Australian Open.
"When you win a tournament it's a pleasure. It's tier IV but it's a win and it feels good."

WTA Hobart: Chakvetadze claims third career title Russian top seed Anna Chakvetadze has claimed her third career title after straight sets win in the final of the Moorilla Hobart International at the Domain Tennis Centre tonight.
Chakvetadze won a straight forward first set over compatriot Vasilisa Bardina but was stretched in the second before producing a 6-3 7-6(3) win in 1hr 44mins.
The world No.13 broke in the first game and again in the third game to take control of the opener. Both players traded early breaks in the second but it was Chakvetadze who again got the lead thanks to a Bardina double fault.
But the underdog fought her way back into the match serving for the second at 5-4 but came unstuck with unforced errors. The set went to a tiebreak where Chakvetadze opened up a 4-0 lead and proceeded to claim the match with a big forehand winner down the line.
Chakvetadze said she wasn’t too pleased with the way she played but thrilled to secure another WTA Tour title.
“I’m happy that I’ve won my first title this year,” she said. “I actually had some troubles with my serve and forehand today but I hope I will get better by Monday.”
Chakvetadze said she was impressed by her opponent’s game.
“She’s a great fighter. She’ll keep running and keep fighting. I’m proud of myself and I’m proud of Vasilisa because I think she’s improved a lot. The crowd was awesome, they were cheering 50-50 for Vasilisa and for me as well.”
Bardina was humble in defeat and said that tiredness – she was playing her eighth game in seven days – may have had something to do with her loss.
“I think it was a good match,” she said. “I tried to play well but I am so tired. Like the first set, second set I’m so heavy. You need good recovery for any match to be on the top.”
Despite the loss, the 19-year-old was thrilled with her week.
“It’s amazing. It’s my highest result and I hope not the last one for the future.
“I played before and everybody know that I can play good but I didn’t show my game to everybody. And now I think most people will know who I am.”
Bardina plays Clijsters in the first round of next week’s Australian Open and said winning the match wasn’t out of the question.
“Yeah, why not?” she said. “I’m glad that I play against her and I think it will an interesting match.”
Bardina, currently ranked No.70 in the world, will climb inside the top 50 next week. Chakvetadze meets Serena Williams’ conqueror Sybille Bammer in the first round of the Open.
Russians continued their dominance at the Moorilla Hobart International when Elena Likhovtseva and Elena Vesnina bounced back from a set down to defeat top seeds Anabel Medina Garrigues and Virginia Ruano Pascual 2-6 6-1 6-2 in the doubles final.
Results – Day Six Main Draw
Anna Chakvetadze (RUS) d [Q] Vasilisa Bardina (RUS) 6-3 7-6(3)

The US$170,000 Moorilla Hobart International is part of the Australian Open Series and will be staged from Friday 5 – Friday 12 January 2007 at the Domain Tennis Centre.
Six of the world’s current top 11 players have previously competed at the Moorilla Hobart International and the tournament’s honour roll boasts names such as Kim Clijsters (2000), Alicia Molik (2003) and this year’s winner, world No.35 Michaella Krajicek.

Anna said in the off-season that her expectations for Australia weren't that high but she couldn't have started much better. :) Congrats to Anna for her 3rd title in 4 events. :yeah:
Good for Russian tennis too to have two Russians in the final. Bardina did really well to get there from qualies.
