Jess Moore vs. Sveltlana Kuznetsova, terrible first round clash. Also Ana getting draw for a potential 4th round clash against Sharapova.

Martina´s draw not looking good, Mirza in the third round and Safina in the 4th round before facing Kim, still i think she needs to beat them both to build some sort of confidence to give Kim a good match.

Comment on match between Vania King vs Anna Ivanovich. In my opinion both players have pretty much bad start at the beginning of the season. Vania King is a great young player and can see her chances to win this match.

GO VANIA GO>>>>

Sharapova-Excellent Draw, doesn't get much easier to the SF I think...
Hingis-Horrible draw, gets herself in the top 8 and gets slammed with a very tough draw...From the 1R on, she will have to be ready to play.
Mauresmo-great draw
Serena-could have been worse I suppose, Santangelo is not an 'easy win',but it's definitely better than getting Maria or Kim in 1R

The draw does seem to be well balanced though...which is a plus...men's draw seems top heavy ;)

That sucks for Martina. I would atcually like to see her do well here. That draw is killer though. I think that fitness will be the key for her here though. But Martina had some quality opponents last year and she made the quarters so you never know, but Safina is the one she should be worried about the most.

And 4 days before that Hingis won 6-1 6-0. A rested Hingis, if she makes the third round, should beat Mirza.

I like this draw. :yeah:

Yes it is on similar surface.(slow hard outdoors.) But this time Hingis is likely to win because she lost the first round match against Jankovic in Sydey. She had a lot time to get used to the courts. Where as Mirza was in Hobart playing Singles SFs. Anyway it will be great match up. I hope for a upset if they meet. :yeah:

The third round between Na Li and Dinara Safina should be interesting (assuming it happens), Na was playing awesome in Sydney this week. Its going to be tough for Martina against either of those players if she gets to the 4th round.

Ugh.
All my biggest faves are in the top draw.
Maria, Kim, Hingis, Na, Stosur all in the same half.
The bottom has Kuznetsova, Mauresmo, Dementieva. Ugh.

To me, there is one soft quarter, because Sveta is ill.
And that quarter also has Nadia, Serena, and Jelena.
So a lot can happen there.

I think the draw is pretty fair. The good players are spread around.
We won't have Sharapova-Jankovic in R16, or anything like that.

She faced one top fourty player en route to the quarter-finals.:help:They only seemed quality because she was just coming back. Martina got handed probably the easiest route to a slam QF in history. She's never getting past Mirza and Li (or Safina, though I doubt it) in a row. She can't beat two power players back to back. It's unfortunate. I really want her to do well, but I just, sadly, don't believe Martina's still got what it takes:sad: . I think, come Wimbledon, Martina won't even be a top 16 seed. I hope to God I'm wrong, however.

Petrova, Kuznetsova, Serena, Jankovic in one quarter.

I'm going for a Petrova vs Jankovic 4th round. But if there's anything every one should know, it's to NEVER discount Serena. Remember 2005 AO? Yeah.

I like the draw, however. There's a good shot six of my seven faves will make the quarters. I would have loved for Patty Schnyder to have gotten Ivanovic instead of Sharapova; that would have been ideal, but, all things considering, very fair and very balanced.

I wouldn't be so grim. Martina can be very very gritty when she wants. Power - she's shown that she can handle it, and she can definitely compete with some of the most inconsistent players: Li, Safina and Mirza.

Petrova, Kuznetsova, Serena, Jankovic in one quarter.

I'm going for a Petrova vs Jankovic 4th round. But if there's anything every one should know, it's to NEVER discount Serena. Remember 2005 AO? Yeah.

In 05, people might have discredited Serena, but she was still 10 in the world, and people still knew Petrova didn't have a prayer. We all expected her to make the quarters. I'd say probably 50% expected Mauresmo to win, and virtually no one gave Rena a shot against Sharapova (other than fans,) so I mean, she was underestimated to some extent.

But this is not like 05. Serena just lost to some girl whose name I forget, who lost in the next round to a woman who had previously never been to a WTA quarter-final and is a twenty something. Serena went to 7-6 in the third against Safarova. Serena won like 5 matches last year. Serena's out of shape. Serena can never win important matches when she is out of shape because her strokes are not consistent enough to win twice as many free points as errors (a la Davenport.) Serena wins matches because she can smack the ball while running 80 MPH and still get it in court. With her fitness and speed, she is undoubtedly the best player ever. Take away that fitness, any top twenty calibre player can beat her consistently, and any top one hundred player can beat her on the right day.

I'd compare this more to Venus at 05 Wimbledon, but, even there, Venus lost to Sesil Karatancheva and everyone thought the world was over. Serena lost to like...Severine Bremond or someone.

Bad draw for Martina. Safina and Li are dangerous.

Not to mention Dechy in the 1st rd...:help:

This is Martina's worst draw at a GS since her comeback, no question. I hope she does well and is prepared but she is going to have to play her heart out just to get to the 4th rd... Oh well, when she had as easy draw at Wimby last year she couldn't take advantage of it, so maybe it's actually better this way?!

Nicole has a nice draw, but it could be tough as well.

4R: Dementieva
QF: Mauresmo
SF: Jankovic/Kuznetsova

It's definitely do-able, but she needs to be playing well. :)

Go Nicole! :D

They way she's been playing she'll be lucky to make the 4th Round. She's got a decent draw.

I take it back - I like Hingis' draw. People keep saying she cant get through it, so I think it's good that she has a killer draw to see if she's up to snuff. If she makes it through to the QF's, I think it just proves that she came up against a hot Jankovic and Safina and ended up on the wrong end, but can still beat them. I think people overeact to losses, and I've done the same.

My problem is overreacting to crap draws as much as losses. :p But considering Tina lost to Sugiyama and Razzano in her last two Slams, we should be prepared for anything.

Yeah, I am over it as well. Martina SHOULD beat everyone in her quarter until Kimmie...obviously, she has a chance in that match if they both get there! ;)

What's wrong with it? The fact that she will have to face Maria in the 4th Round or her opponents beforehand?
