View Full Version : So, is Kutuzova really a talent or just overhyped girl?

Ok, she is only 18, but her results seem to get worse not better in the past few months.

Was it all hype about her to be the top player?

Learn to read! They're not talking about Kuznetsova! If this were your welfare check, I'm sure you'd be reading it more carefully. :o

I believe she is really over hyped, her results are quite poor too. Ok, she is young and there is time to improve but she just plays a pretty average game from what I (and that is not much) have seen of her. I wasn't impressed.

I wasn't impressed when I saw her lose to Chakvetadze (in a choke) at the US Open 2005, but she's still young. Her post-junior results aren't much but that could change. She pretty much tries to play the way everyone does in today's game.

And actually I wouldn't say she's hyped at all, I never hear about her anymore.

I've always kept her in the back of my mind in terms of up-and-comers. I think she'll get it together this year.

Viktoriya is very talended...She has such a beautiful forehand...But her problem is mental, she "chokes" too much, and doesn't manage to close sets or matches when the score goes to 5/5 or things like that...She has to improve that...I saw her for the first time at Marseille 50,000$ in 2005 and she led 6/0 and 6/4 in the second set tie break but lost 0/6 7/6(7) 6/2, it was against Pelletier I guess...In the other hand, she defeated King 7/6(11) at Roland Garros, and had a great opportunity against Dementieva, winning the first set 6/3...
So about Vika, it's all mental and physical strongness...And her serve is quite poor, overall in the second serve...Her favorite surface is for sure clay...
That's it :p

i think it is just a case of finding the game and the right balance that is going
to win her matches at the senior level. once she has found that she will move up the rankings i'm sure

I saw her playing twince in final at Deauville ($50K) and her game was really wonderful!
I hope she will be back in top 100 as soon as possible.
Unfortunately her 2006 season was disturbed by illness.

She deserves the hype, as a 14 yr old beat won 2 MD matches in LA before losing to then top 10 player Sugiyama, she's just been unlucky with illness last yr she got at Wimbledon last yr. She hits hard and flat but just needs to fix a few technical gliches in her game and she'll be fine ;)

Well, I must say that the loss against Neha is a big surprise :o I :worship: Neha, but I had never even remotely expected that win.

Vika's career been derailed by her shoulder injury she had a few yrs ago and now her serve's got a glitch or two :(

could have been so much higher up ranks now she looks someone who might get to lower reaches of top 100

She has proved that she "can do it"... The whole "shop-lifiting" thing, really had impact on her. Why did she need that

How can someone who is never talked about be hyped?
I've seen her a number of times and she is really inconsistent. She could be top 40 with that great forehand of hers, but it's all about putting the pieces all together, and learning how to win big matches. She needs more experience.

This girl has been hypsed since 2003 right? :tape:

I saw her play WTT in 2005, she had a very nice game, I dont why she hasnt moved up in the rankings though. my parents saw her play WTT this summer against ALG, and they said Kutuzova seemed to clearly be the better player of the 2. I guess she is streaky

I saw her at IW last year and personally wasn't impressed as much as I was when I saw her couple of years ago (or so) in Miami...

Unfortunately her 2006 season was disturbed by illness.

So this was the reason why she didn't play all that much during the 2006 season? Or was it because she was still under AER during most of it?

Anyway, I was just checking her record because I didn't know she had been a top junior (career high #7, played against ALG, Kirilenko and Ivanovic back in the day).

And another thing - why was Kutuzova given WCs for IW and Miami in 2004 and 2005? Is she with some agency like IMG?

And her scheduling suggests she has been based in the US for some time now. Is she?

not sure where she's based now, but she was in US, probably still is.

Kutuzova is talented.

She has a nice all-court game.

I don't know why she plays so dumb now trying to go for winners all the time, but that is not her gamestyle.

She needs to get rid of that frying pan-sized racquet as well.

She was talked about a lot at the end of 2005 and the beginning of 2006.

A lot of people were putting her up there with Vaidisova, Ivanovic, etc. and I told them that they were wrong. Guess they didn't believe me. :p

Thanks. I was intrigued by that for quite some time now.
