If she could possible beat a seed - let's hope for a low one... it would be good for her.

A scrub in the first round, and then Sharpie/Clijsters in round two :help:

if this were to happen everyone would look past her first round opponent becuase they would be so anxious about the 2nd round and then they would jinx it and serena would lose to the girl in the first round and then she would get killed in the second round and everyone would be upset because they wanted to see that good match but it never happened

Can you imagine a Pova/Serena 1R match???

2 yrs ago they were playing in the semis now Serena is iin the 90s meeting her in the first round (how the mighty have fallen). Knowing Pova she would be out to KILL. Game Set match, Sharapova 6-2, 6-1 in 62 mins

I agree, Maria would OWN her, the shrieking would be at the utmost level, and she wont waste a second in taking her out.
I really hope they dont play first round though, them in the final would be great

I think she'll have a a little luck and draw a WC or something. (Probably the USTA's pick Brengle, just our luck  ) & then Mauresmo, which could be a blessing despite her high seeding. I have a feeling Momo is going to feel HUGE pressure to defend and will not do as well as she should...

I would love a Serena/Hingis 4R or QF

If we're lucky:

1. Alves will be the chair umpire.

2. Hingis will take a very suspicious injury time out.

3. Serena will smash a racket.

4. Serena will say "Martina played the match of her life out there today."

5. Hingis will say "For the first 4 games, I thought she might actually have a chance."

Any top-player sans Hingis (because her fans are unbearable) who will blow her away totally and give her something to think about. Serena's problem is that shes been losing to Venus, scrubs and people she knows shes better than (no offense to Mauresmo). She needs to be blown away by Sharapova or Clijsters. I wish Justine was playing, she would get it done. And if a total beatdown is not enough to motivate Serena, then shes done.

its not. Rena had her share of wake-up calls already and she didnt wake till now. i thought that losing to a low ranked player would hurt her pride and would motivate her to get back to her top form. if she is not aware of whats going on then a devastating loss against a top gun will for sure bring her back imo.

still i just wanna see her at the AO to see whats up im happy that she is back :D

Whoever it is will wind up playing the match of her life while Serena is playing at a "1" on a scale of 1 to 10, obviously. Unless Serena can raise her game to a "2", which will allow her to win in straight 6-0 sets.

honestly i think Serena isn´t in the shape to go to a QF or SF to face Sharapova or any other big name there
but since i would like to see a big match up like Sharapova/Serena or Clijsters/Serena it has to be in a early round
so bring on Sharapova/Clijsters/Jankovic etc. :)

No. She needs a loss to Sharapova etc. I don't care if we never hear the end of it. She needs a beatdown. Hantuchova did it last year and Serena took time off to sort things out. But she's going back to her 2005/2006 ways again :( A big loss would help.

Yet, if Serena somehow managed the upset against a Sharapova
or Clijsters at this open, would you still be harping the same tune?

Serena is not in the best shape and her form is off,
but to completely discount her is just well, whatever.

I remember how Venus was raked over the coles by you people
here after 05' RG and how delusional she and the few of us still here
were that she could win Wimbledon. Yet, as soon as she proved people
wrong and made them choke on their words, they all jumped on her bandwagon.

So regardless, Venus' words resinate with me on this,

Q. Why should we believe that you'll be back to where you were?

VENUS WILLIAMS: Well, I think that at the end of the day, I don't care if you believe or anyone else believes in here, because it's me. So believe what you want to. There's always going to be nay sayers. You may be one of them, I don't know. Guess what, I don't care.

You're the best Craig  But the thing is, even though I agree with you, I don't think Serena's ego would allow a beatdown from Sharapova even if it is what she needs. No matter what shape Serena is in, she usually always competes well pushing the other opponent. So even if she does loses to Sharapova, I still sense a competetive match, not a blowout as some think, because Serena always competes well against the top players and even if she does lose she would say that she played a 1 out of a possible 10 again because I really don't think Serena's ego would let her suffer a beatdown to a top player.
