View Full Version : What is going through Amelies head when she gets bagled?

I mean she is a two time grand slam champion. and she gets more bagels than any top 5 player ever. Is she crumbling mentally when the going gets tough? Does she tank sets where she is behind? It is so annoying that she cant pull her mind together just long enough to win a game.

she thinks:

"if i lose this set 6-0 and make it look like i choked, it will make me seem ever better when i win the next slam."

Probably what I was thinking when I played a camp counselor in "Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenaged Wasteland" when the transsexual serial killer Angela buries me up to my head in a garbage pit and runs over my head with a lawnmower, "I'm world famous and done it all in my industry, everyone makes a turkey for the dough once in a while, at least I can get paid big money for making a turkey."

Er. Not really, no. Yes, they are the most important, but she's never gonna be a real number one if she keeps losing matches like these. Being consistent and giving everything for every tournament, that's how one should play. If she didn't care about "just a Tier II" she wouldn't have showed up.

umm...so why exactly was she bageled twice in one match at the US Open?

it`s simply a result. who cares..if she keeps winning slams... bagels are so...are`nt worth mentioning..and starting a thread..

I don't think so! Janković in Sydney really outplayed her. Amelie gave hers best, but Janky played just great tennis. The same thing was with Sharapova bageling her twice at "US Open"... But I really dunno why is she geting so much bagels

What goes through her head? Probably a lot less now than back before she figured out she had the ability to bounce back, and to win slams ;)

She's probably thinking: "A Bagel again? Mon Dieu! I knew I should've brought the cream cheese and lox!"

Good luck at AO, Amelie.

I understand the question and it's the type of thing I wonder about not just Amelie but the various things that go on. Don't see a response yet that seems to have the right ring to it.

Amelie's a kind of easy-going, intelligent character. Probably loses the first three games of the set, gives it up in that French manner of hers, and thinks "sod this, let's move on to the next one". :spit:

Mauresmo had terrible losses to Ivanovic and Dechy at Sydney and Eastbourne last year and guess what....she won the Australian Open and Wimbledon. Mauresmo used to peak before slams but now she works her way in. I'm sure if it were the Australian Open she would have a put up a bigger fight but i suspect she was happy to get a couple of matches under her belt and get to Melbourne.

Jankovic is tough opponent for anyone now having said that.

Probably she thinks about WTAWorld posters who will write about her bagels.

 I don't think "sod this" is very French

I reckon she thinks, "Will I annoy WTAworld more if I get served a bagel or if I run to my chair? Maybe I'll do both."

I think it's a case of she gets too passive and the other player steps up. She can sometimes get to the point where she's pushing her forehand, just slicing the backhand and not coming in. When she's playing someone who isn't give many errors, she can't win that way.
