I can feel really good things about to happen! I am anticipating a semi-final run at the AO and would love for her to storm into the top 10!

Well, I hope she can keep up with her schedule, stay fit and mentally on point... she has virtually nothing to defend until May. I'm curious to see how she holds up after that! :D

I wish her ALL the best.

Top 10 is gonna happen this month! That's just it...

But I think that you should add "Top 5" cause there are many, including me, that believe that Janky can and WILL get into top 5! :worship:

Getting into the top ten is almost a certain. Staying there will show what's she's really made of. Can she handle the pressure? I don't think she's that mentally tough yet!

I don't see how Jankovic could reach top-5 this year with Sharapova, Mauresmo, Henin and Clijsters being the top-4 and Kuznetsova, Petrova, Vaidisova battling for No.5 spot.
But if Jelena doesn't burn out herself she will be Top-8 fixture for sure.

I agree, she can make the top 5

If she sorts her head out and shows more maturity on court when times get tough - the sky is the limit.

Definetely top 10, possibly top 5 by the end of the year.

Jelena will be a definite top 10 I believe rather soon :). However, considering her slump last year, I am concerned whether she could be consistent and hold her position within the top 10. Anyway, I'm getting ahead of myself, one step at a time.

the end of last season was her breakout, this season she is going to confirm her status as one of the very best players out there

I consider last year her breakout year. She did make a slam semi afterall and took JHH three sets in that match.

Unlikely top 5.

Sure, that's a strong top 5 , but I think Jelena can probably handle herself against most of the girls on that list. She was beating Justine at the US Open before she imploded and has just beaten Amelie. I think Kim & Maria will be tough for anyone else on the tour anyway, and Svetlana is way too inconsistent so there's always a chance there.

So top 5 is possible IF she's mentally strong enough - and we won't know that for a couple more weeks................:D

I agree that getting to the top 10 is pretty much a certainty, and that it remains to be seen whether she can handle the pressure. She is still going to school! As much as I advocate school, school and more school, it is probably not a good idea for her at this time.

However, in terms of court talent, I think she is remarkable. I love to watch her play, and believe that--if she can cut it mentally--she can do just about anything. She is more athletic than I originally thought, and I am impressed by her cleverness.

We should not forget that Sharapova, Mauresmo, Henin, Clijsters, Kuznetsova and Petrova all have major points to defend this season. Meanwhile, Jelena has nothing to defend until the Rome tournament. The top five is looking very certain for her, especially when players like Schnyder and Dementieva seem to be on the decline. In the last 6 months, Jankovic has defeated all but four players in the top 10.

Top 20 wins in the last six months

Wimbledon:
Venus Williams (12)

Los Angeles:
Ana Ivanovic (19)

Montreal:
Francesca Schiavone (15)

US Open
Nicole Vaidisova (10)
Svetlana Kuznetsova (7)
Elena Dementieva (5)

Beijing:
Nadia Petrova (7)

Stuttgart:
Mary Pierce (17)

Sydney:
Martina Hingis (7)
Amelie Mauresmo (3)

she could go very hign soon especially if she wins AO. If she keeps this level only Kim and Pova can compete with her there so she could probably reach top 3 by the clay season :worship:

But Schnyder and Dementieva are not in contention for Top-5
And Jelena's 17th best result after Sydney will be 42 points so she will need to reach at least QF consistently only to add 25-30 points to her ranking (which is absolutely possible, though). To be ranked in Top-5 she will have to win several Tier I and Tier II tournaments. Could she do it? Will see...

Top 10 is not of Jelena's reach if she can keep up these consistent results & at least win a few more titles. But one match at a time & she'll be in that elite.

She is having a very good run and is very talented, can a long term Fan please check the wheel bearings on the JJ bandwagon, they could be starting to cave in under the load, like a "Veteran" loaded Toyota ute in Zimbabwe

Yes.
Aside from US Open 2006 she hasn't done much in slams. It's time to get past the 4th round at the very least. Top 5 is doable too. She certainly plays enough and I don't think her game is below the likes of Kuznetsova and Petrova. And who knows how much Clijsters is going to play this year.

Yes, JJ will be top 10 VERY soon!

IMHO She is playing like a top 3 player right now so she could definitely keep climbing after that! She definitely has #1 potential and she know it now! :hearts:

It will all depend on Jelena's consistency, other top 20 players' results (Nikki, Ana, Anna, etc.,) and the ability of the current top 10 to 'step it up'...the current top 8 could look very different when Madrid rolls around!

(Martina you better be there!)

I believe that 2007 will be Jelena's breakout year. Or at least I hope so. I saw her play for the first time live in Carson, CA this past summer. She caught my eye right away.

She's a PITBULL (a compliment). Go JJ!
