Jan 10th, 2007, 05:38 AM
Honestly, not that surprising at the moment. Jankovic can beat almost anyone in the world this past year!

But something has definitely left Mauresmo's game since last year's Wimbledon, considering all these bagels.

But still result second set is still suprising for me.

Congrats Jelena. Now Ivanovic bring Vaidisova down!

Amelie... Aus Open to look forward to :hugs: Just stop framing so many backhands...

Maybe this is a good sign for Amelie... she did lose to a Serb called Ana in the first round in Sydney last year ;)

This is the reason why Justine is a better player then Amelie and Maria and Kim as well in terms of consistency. Amelie is a great player but she can be inconsistent. Just like last year she lost early in Sydney same thing this year. Mauresmo is so up and down that's the story of her career. Congrats Jelena.

Pathetic performance from Mauresmo. She was supposed to be prepared and confident. Obviously, this was a difficult match but a former number one is meant to do better than receive a bagel.

Bravo Jelena. But she takes some risks, she may be tired for the AO.
She truely deserves her place in the top 10.

I agree, but concerning Mauresmo, i don't think the problem is just consistency. To me she just doesn't have the game to dispose of many lower ranked dangerous players.

If she get those players (Vaidisova, Jankovic, Golovin, heck I would even include Chakvetadze, Peer) relatively early (or at all) in the AO draw she'll have serious trouble.
But of course, if she is going to face the Schnyders, Dementievas, Hantuchovas she'll go deep easily.

If winning Sidney means beating Kim Clijsters in good shape... yes, I do think she'll be a bigger favourite (to me) then Sharapova, especially if Sharapova's game is still a bit shaky like it was in Hong Kong...
but to be fair, I still think Kim will be able to beat Jankovic, and that she'll be the big favourite along with Sharapova...

Well done Jelena. This is for the people who told that Martina can´t play the level of the top 20 players, I think the number 3 and number 1 just 2 months ago also can´t... Leading 3-0 and doing just 2 more games, too bad for Mauresmo.Martina has to be happy and i have to say that Jelena is showing really good shot selection, she´s choosing very well when it´s better to play a fast shot, when it´s better to play a slower shot, and she´s going for her shots when she has opportunities to close the points. I liked... the last time i saw her play was in the indoor tournaments, in a match against Bammer and she played nice, but now she has even better tactics and better than that is that she is able to use her tactics without doing many unf errors...

Actually funny to see these notes on news web sites, Mauresmo and Serena out!

Congrats to Jelena, she has been playing great tennis this week, is my fav to this tittle cause she beat Martina..

Guess is not the same to lose in 3 sets 2hr and 10 min ag a girl like Jelena when you come from a 3 set final in less than 3 days.. it sounds less scandalous now as somebody said ..

Amelie needs :help: to hold her tittle this January

Why do I have a feeling that Momo was feeling a bit superstitious... everytime she miserably lost the tournament leading up to a GS, she won that slam ;)

Great one Jankovic though! I hope she wins the title.

Nah, she's a diesel, it takes her a little more to achieve a decent performance. :p

As for Jelena, her backhand never stops to amaze me. Good win for her. :yeah:

How do you know that? We'll have to wait and find out. Maybe just not winning the tournament ( like she always used to) will work fine. ;)

You think that if Jankovic wins Sydney she'll be more of a favourite than Sharapova? :tape:

It's great that Jelena has continued on her form from the end of last season. She really is playing some fantastic tennis. Amélie really needs to sharpen up and I really hope she doesn't get someone like Serena or Molik in the first round of the Open. She'll need a few matches to get her shit together. Keep the form going Jelena!

I need to see Jelena beat Vaidisova who has been her stumbling block in the past. If she can do that I'm going to really start to believe that she can be a true contender in the AO :D

Jelena  :bolt:

Amelie  @ 2nd set :(
good luck in Melbourne i guess...

i think Jelena can beat anyone at the moment, the only questionmark for the AO is: can she beat Kim and Maria to win it?
i think not yet, but if she keeps this form throughout the year why not?
