View Full Version : The Meltdown of Tatiana Golovin

I just didn't understand Golovin's complete mental breakdown against Mauresmo last night. She was playing very well, had so many chances and was up against a Mauresmo that was far from her best.

But then she just started to go a little nuts - tossing her racket, screaming in frustration, missing easy volleys, at one point she screamed out "this is my fucking nightmare" and mouthed "fuck off" to one of the TV cameras...

I just feel that if she could have just kept her cool and not rushed her shots (and gotten a few more first serves in) she would have wrapped the match up in straight sets.

Well, credit to Mauresmo for hanging in there and staying positive, even when she was playing abysmally (by her standards). It's gonna be very, very tough for her against an in-form Jelena Jankovic next round...

Now that she's shed the "Chokomomo" label, girls are scared of her and will melt down more often than not when ahead, handing Amelie the match.

Is this new for Golovin? Nope. She often chokes.

She didn't choke too much. Amélie played pretty well and was solid at the important moment, Tati's just still a bit young

Tati is just being Tati. Like a previous poster this is nothing new.

i saw the match Mauresmo was much better in sets 2 and 3, and Golovin was going for powerful winners resulting in Errors causing frustration

She has been close to beating Momo a few times now, hopefully she will get one of these.

The same goes with her matches vs Sharapova. Obviously she got injured in Miami, but at the USO she only lost in two tiebreaks so I think if she can hold her nerve, a big match will go her way soon.

Well she's still so young. Mauresmo only been able to stop like an year go (but started to receive many bagels). So I think she'll stop chocking soon.

She simply does not have her head together for the top players yet.

I'd be frustrated, too, if I were a professional athlete who trained constantly, yet STILL had lovehandles!

Golovin is still only young these things happen!

Well - to be fair there are some teenagers today *cough**Sharapova** and of the past *cough**Hingis or SerenaWilliams forexample** that close out matches like a cold blooded-snake.

Tati, please get DISCIPLINED.
I wish she and Kirilenko had the parents of those three girls you mentioned.

The thing is, people have been saying that for a few years now. And there are other players her age and younger who seem to handle the pressure much better than she does.

I've said for a while that Golovin is a top five talent. But she loses almost every match to the top players. Usually it's very close, but she still loses them. It has to be getting concerning.

That's a pity that she doesn't rise to the occasion...she is obviously talented, has tennis to beat the top players but her mental game is still far from perfect...and although she is indeed young, there are a lot of young players that seem to close out these kind of matches and deal much better with the pressure...
