Hi Guys, I have just come back from the qualies of day one and thought that I should share with you what I made of it all.

These are the matches I saw:

(3)Marta Domachowska (POL) def. Shikha Uberoi (IND) 6-3 6-1
It pains me write about this match because it was so boring! Both players were way beloy par. Uberoi had a bad attitude and in the 2nd set just gave up. Marta had big problems on serve. She must have served over 12 double faults, quite often two in a row. The first set was a break fest, with both players looking really nervous. Before the match Marta was in the stands, chatting and laughing with some of the crowd, which was awesome to see. She also invited one girl on to the court with her to inspect the courts dryness. Marta will need to improve if she wants to qualify. In the end Marta's deep and powerful groundies were way to much for Uberoi to handle.

(4)Lilia Osterloh (USA) def. (WC)Dianne Hollands (NZL) 6-2 6-1
This match was much closer and of higher quality to the one previous. Dianne came onto court with her handbag! The crowd loved it! Dianne started well, holding two game points in the first game, but Osterloh broke for a 1-0 lead. Dianne broke straight back with a great fore hand cross court winner on break point, much to the crowds delight! At 2-2, Osterloh stepped it up a grear, and Dianne could not handle it. She matched Osterloh for power and placement, but the class of Lilia shone thru. However in the 2nd set the produced one of the ralleys of the day, Dianne running everything down, Lilia getting to everyball before Dianne smashed a back hand winner down the line. Also at *2-1 in the set, one Lilia serve the game went to 10 duces, Lilia fighting off 6 break points, before finally holding and walking back to her seat to a standing ovation. This was a fun match to watch. Dianne showed plenty of heart, Lilia showed plenty of class. End of story.

(2)Meilen Tu (USA) def. (WC)Ellen Barry (NZL) 6-2 6-0
First of all I want to say that it looked to me as if Tu was wearing her P.J's on court!. These little blue shorts and a blue top, it was horrible! But her play was not. Tu outclassed Barry in every part of her game. She looked really focussed, and was always winking and doing the thumbs up to her coach. Ellen looked dejected, and rightly so. Barry has loads of talent, but this is one match she will want to forget. Tu was too good, lets move on.

Kathrin Woerle (GER) def. Su-Wei Hsieh (TPE) 6-4 6-4
Theres been alot of talk over the last year about how average Woerle is, I must say from what I saw today I cant see why. She played a great match and in my opinion, was the most well preformed playey of the day. Su-Wei can also hold her head up high, she played her part too. Woerle was serving bullets and was volleying gracefully. A really closley contested match that could have gone either way. I feel its only a matter of time before Su-Wei breaks into the top 100., She has a nice fore hand, but needs to beef up the serve a little bit. Good luck to Kathrin tomorrow, if she plays like she did today, she can go far in the tournament.

(6)Yvonne Meusburger (AUT) def. (WC)Kairangi Vano (NZL) 6-1 5-7 6-2
Good match this. Yvonne played really, really well, but was forced to bring out all the stops. Kairangi always hit the ball harder than Yvonne, but Yvonne knew how to keep the balls in play. First set was over in a flash, with Kairangi making error, after error, after error. But in the second set a big crowd swamped court 4 and it lifted Vano to a new level. She was finding her range, and Yvonne was feeling it. Every time Kairangi started dominating a point, it would finish with a winner from her. In the 3rd Kai had more than enough chances, but could not convert. Yvonne showed all of her experence and gave Kai a masterclass on pressure tennis. A very entertaining match from both, gave Kiwi fans somthing to cheer about.

More reports later. :wavey:

By the look of the scoreline it was very tight, how do you think she'll go against Yvonne tomorrow (you were watching that match for quite a while).

To be honest I cant see her getting anywhere near Yvonne, but with Shona...you never know! Altho after the 1st set today I could not see her getting anynear Anne, stranger things have happened!
