Ai OWNS Stosur, it's a good match up because after the serve which Ai returns well, Stosur isn't that great.

Poor Ai. She fought so hard, but something went terribly wrong with her serve... poor girl  Rest up for Sydney!

TennisPlayingFox

At least Ai fought hard. Her serve was just not cooperating at all. it's usually very difficult to win a match with 11 double faults. Hopefully she will play much better in Sydney.

Ai plays Galina Voskoboeva in round 1 of quallies. They have never played before. Galina is tall and with a big serve I seem to recall but struggles with low balls with her height. Hopefully Ai can do well :music: :rocker2: :music: :music: :sport:

Ganbatte Ai! :yeah: :music: Very happy with the score as Beygelzimer can prove to be a tricky opponent at times, like vs Capriati at Roland Garros several years ago. She can also play so god damn awful as well like when I saw her play Florence Devry at Hasselt at last year. But our Ai won and thats all that matters :D

Ganbatte!
Excellent job Ai :) Good luck against Schruff tomorrow night!

Doubles draw is out  It's stacked... I hope Ai & Dani do well, to get confidence up for AO!

(1) Raymond/Stosur vs. Loit/Pratt
Daniilidou/Woehr vs. Morariu/Stubbs
(4) Groenefeld/Shaughnessy vs. Crabays/Li T.
Bovina/Schiavone vs. Dushevina/Fedak

Husarova/Voskoboeva vs. Bartoli/Tu
(WC) Jankovic/Li N. vs. (3) Hantuyama
Dechy/Zvonareva vs. King/Sun
Adamzcak/Dellacqua vs. (2) Black/Huber

So stacked, but I hope they can do well!

6-3 6-1 over Schruff, will qualify and play either against Golovin, Schnyder, Bartoli or Dementieva :hearts:
These three straight-set matches must boost her confidence!
Fantastic!! :)

Geeze Ai loves playing Schruff...barely loses games to her. I am really excited about the confidence and match play this seuccessful run through qualies is doing for her!! Hopefully she gets two of the easier qualie spots, because she could do well here having had more experience on the courts this year than her MD opponents. GO Ai!

AJZ.
Jan 7th, 2007, 04:33 AM
Yeah :)
Ideally, I'd place her by Golovin. I'd love to see her play Mauresmo :hearts:

Oh my goodness!
Ai lost 6-7 7-6 6-0 to Dementieva, but she was leading 7-6 5-3! :sobbing: Poor Ai choked it away!
But I'd rather this loss than a 6-2 6-2 loss; this loss proves she's still got what it takes to compete with the best of the best, so I hope she kicks ass in Melbourne and in doubles :)

-sugi-
Jan 8th, 2007, 04:05 PM
Ai    Lets hope to use some of this good form. Hopefully Ai will play some lower tiers this year where she would have a shot at a title...

She was so close at Seoul before that bitch Daniilidou ruined the momentum with a timeout. Then I saw the exact same thing at Hasselt where Ai was leading 60 20 :(

AJZ.
Jan 8th, 2007, 07:37 PM
I can't believe she had three MPs in that final :sobbing:
I hope she breaks through in her next tournaments :) Australia, Tokyo... Doha? I don't know ^o)
It's a bad loss, in a way, but I'd rather this loss than say... 6-1 6-2 against Safarova, or 6-4 6-3 against Conchita Martinez Granados :o :p

I hope they own in doubles :hot:

-sugi-
Jan 8th, 2007, 07:39 PM
After those two matches, Daniilidou went straight off my list of favourite players. In Hasselt when Sugi led 60 20, she was just being outplayed, nothing was wrong with Eleni yet the trick worked :o

AJZ.
Jan 8th, 2007, 07:53 PM
There are some unforgivable things, eh! :o I don't really care for her either.

I have such a feeling about the AO, I feel it's going to be special for Ai :)

pcrtennis
Jan 8th, 2007, 09:06 PM
Even though it's frusterating...This is a much better lead-up to the AO than previous years....she has numerous matches under her belt and this match will give her some confidence even though she couldnt close it out. She's got her rhythm...I think this will be a good AO. And I think Ai will take a title this year!

And I hope that ugly bitch Daniilidou has a horrible year as usual...I can't stand her anymore...unfit, out of shape players shouldnt win titles...especially with the "cramps" and other "injuries"

AJZ.
Jan 9th, 2007, 12:31 AM

I just hope she and Dani win AO Doubles  I'd be realllllly happy with that.

Too bad Ai couldn't pull of the upset. just a little bit of advice for Ai though. When you play Elena and she gives you 15 double faults... YOU DON'T GO AND MAKE 17 DOUBLE FAULTS! okay I'm done now lol. At least she did get a couple wins in qualies before the AO, that should definatly help.! good luck in Melbourne Ai!

I'm not being demanding, demanding would be asking for me to grow something between her legs and play mens singles and doubles and win all. I am just being realistic ;)

For some reason though, all jokes aside, I honestly sense something good coming. Us Ai fans have waited too long.

What's the male version of Ai? :haha: "Oi Sugiyama"

I do feel something too though. I know what you mean!!
She hasn't had a good AO in a few years, but this one will be different I can feel it!

Being the 23rd seed, she won't have to play one of the top eight in round three (thank goodness) but she'll have to play one of the following;
Safina (9)
Vaidisova (10)
Jankovic (11)
Chakvetadze (12)
Ivanovic (13)
Schiavone (14)
Hantuchova (15)
Peer (16)
(Possibly Li if Li wins Sydney ? I don't know)
That's not so bad. She can beat all of them, I just wouldn't want her to play Dani or Jelena. I think Jelena would be the toughest.

I wish she'd write in her diary so we would know how she feels!! (And I wish her site were in English :o)

and as for women's doubles, we probably all feel the same way, ai fans
Raymond/Stosur seemed shaky in Sydney, Yan/Zheng seemed shaky in Hong Kong, Black/Huber are a new duo so who knows, etc. It'll be interesting... but they won't have a top 4 seed, which may be a bad thing (but it didn't matter in Paris!!)
at the moment, the ranks are:
Raymond/Stosur 2
Yan/Zheng 7
Hantuyama 25
Safina/Srebotnik 24
Black/Huber 22
Shaughnessy/Groenefeld 26
Suarez/Ruano Pascual 24 (But will they play?)
Peschke/Schiavone 15
So they are definitely not getting a top 4 seed, but they'll probably be between five and seven.
(But we all know what damage they can do when they don't choke and have confidence - that's why Sydney's really important!! If they do well there, they'll be really confident... kind of like Rome & Paris in 2006)

There stops my rambling
I've been trying to come up with a slogan for my sig for AO 2007... but nothing rhymes with Australia  Hmmmmm

i sometimes do believe that our ai is too kind !! well that's why we like her so much too! but what happened with daniilidou is a perfect exemple !! ai is very sensitive and worried about other players injuries, therefore some of them take advntage of it ! that's a shame !!

even if her loss agaisnt dementieva is disapointing, she played great tennis in sydney!! i'm just worried about her serve !! my god so many double faults !!she has to work on it before the AO !! however i have a good feeling about 2007 in single and in doubles as well!!

hope she 'll win sydney title with daniela ! last year just after winning rome , they managed to go the final of RG !!

Schiavone (14) vs. Kloesel
Safarova vs. Brianti
Pous Tio vs. Yakimova
Arvidsson vs. Ai (23)

Not a bad draw :D She's never beaten Schiavone, but Schiavone hasn't been playing well as of late... It is a chance! The potential 4R opponent would be Mauresmo though.

I hate Daniilidou so much. I don't know if she did it in this match but in Seoul and Hasselt she always uses so many tactics and gamesmanship to win

At Hasselt Ai led 60 30 when Eleni then called the trainer and completely ruined the momentum. :o

I went to watch this game.

I could see her service has been improving after the form change.

Last time I saw her (in San Diego last year), her strokes didn't have a great rhythm and service was weak...so it was easily attacked and she made tons of errors.

Today against Garbin who hit really hard, Ai made her move around a lot using lots of lobs and net plays. Her strokes weer there too. She definately played top 15 tennis today.

The first set was...
she just needed some time to adjust to Garbin's balls.
I was a bit worried only for a few games... but after that, I knew she'd win... and Garbin's mental was gone during the 2nd and 3rd.

Against Kutzy, Ai needs to do more than today.
She can't just return the balls. She needs to be consistant in strokes and has to mix up with other stuff too.

It was good to meet her again! :D

Ai got revenge! 6-4 6-0... Amazing win!
The serve seems to be getting better... 70% first serves in (68% 1st serve points won), 2 aces to 5 double faults. (One game, she served two :o) But she was only broken once, so I think it's a lot more solid :)

In the second set, she won 75% of the points! :)

Good luck against Dinara (she currently leads 6-1 so I think she'll be the opponent!)

Go Ai!!! I'm very impressed by that scoreline. Her serve is definitely getting better and it seems to be stronger now than before she changed it, like ExHopman said.

Ai has a good head to head against Safina though she lost to her the last time a couple years ago...but that was in the midst of her losing streak in the beginning of 2005.

She hasn't entered any green clay events, and she's not entered in Berlin.

Her doubles ranking is slipping... I don't know if she can defend all the points in the clay season (Rome W, RG F, Berlin QF) so I think she might slip out of the top 20

SHe's really not though, she hits the ball flat and takes the ball very early...not a great game for clay neccessarily...But she capable of having good wins. was points away from beating Kuznetsova on clay a few years ago, has beaten many gooood players on it and has made the 4th round of the FO couple times and the semis of Rome. I think she's going to have a tough time against Golovin but will or should beat the others. She loves to play against Bartoli.

hello everyone ! i'm back from limoges and it was an amazing weekend ! of course i'm disappointed by the japanese result ! all matchs were very tense and the results don't show how hard it was for the french players to win !!

i'm also very disappointed by the french audience which was not fairplay and there were some wrong calls against the japanese players ! i guess it was predictable ! sugiyama and morigami played extremely well !!! and they lost mainly because it was on clay and because 99% of the audience was against them , but me , a friend of mine and 5 japanese who came especially for the fed cup and who were very nice ! they gave me the official tshirt of the japanese team with Suzuki's autograph on it !!!!

anyway golovin and dechy played extremely too and i'm quite surprised , especially for dechy ! she didnt played some amazing tennis for a long time !!

But i'm very happy because i talked a little bit with sugiyama, morita and nakamura durind their training cession at the end of the first day and i have their autographs !! they were very nice and shy but also very sad !

Really, the year so far has been lackluster... 11-11 in singles, with two or three good tournaments, and 12-9 in doubles with one ITF title and a Grand Slam QF, but still...
I really hope that the French Open starts something good for Ai ! She needs the boost. :)

Ai's RG draw:
(21) Sugiyama vs Birnerova
Tu vs Oprandi
Kremer vs (Q) Szavay
(9) Chakvetadze vs Molik

I hope she can reach the 3R :) If she does, I'll be really happy
Scared about Meilen, though, she's done well on clay this year

Ivanovic/Kirilenko vs. Jankovic/Li
Foretz/Pin vs. Cornet/Fedossova
Hradecka/Voracova vs. (7) Ai/Kata

They're in (4) Peschke/Stubbs quarter.

I don't know what to think. I think they'll reach the third round, but from then on who really knows  I wish them the best of luck ;) It'd be really fantastic if they defended Ai's point :hearts:

They're up against the second seeds Ullyett/Huber first round, so I don't expect much.

What do you mean by that?

Well, Ullyett & Huber are a good team, they've reached Mixed semis before (and a final if I recall correctly)
And Thomas is just a player you don't hear about every day in doubles  He's never really had stellar results, so I can't really see them getting far. I'll be really happy if they win their first match :)

(And, you know, it's because I have this unrealistic idea that she'll play with, say, Safin or Roddick :p )
I'm glad she's playing mixed though :)

The first two sets were so close - barely a point's difference between the two teams. In the second set, no breaks were heard of until the very last game when they broke Dulko (or was it Camerin? the scoreboard was screwed up) and then they got ahead 30 in the first set to run away with it.

Playing up second against (1) Raymond/Stosur on Lenglen tomorrow. Reverse the result of last year's final!!

As long as she gets past South who is a good player, she defeated Schiavone last year, and Molik and Brianti lately, I can't see her losing to Kirilenko or claycourter Cornet.

I hope she can beat Mel ! :) I don't really know about Kirilenko or Cornet, they're both good players - but is Cornet really a claycourter? That could be a nice advantage.
I think what makes me insecure is that she is 0-2 on grass so far :S But her experience will pay off, hopefully, tomorrow!!

They actually did get a good draw - they just have to capitalize, I guess!! I wish them the best :)

A. Sugiyama - 26 June

Ai Sugiyama

A. Sugiyama - 26 June
Tuesday, 26 June, 2007

Ai Sugiyama (JPN) [26] beat Melanie South (GBR) 6-3, 6-2

Q. How pleased were you with your performance?

AI SUGIYAMA : I'm very pleased the way I played today. I know that Melanie I played her last year once, and it was a really close one, and I know it's going to be really tough on grass especially.

But I think as a first match, I think I was a good match for me, and I knew that she was going to serve good so I had to hold my serve. The serve game was key, but I think I could concentrate on my service and got good rhythm from it.

Q. What happens for you the rest of the tournament?

AI SUGIYAMA : Well, each match is going to be a really tough one for me. Now I'm playing again a young one, play against Cornet. She just beat Kirilenko, so it's going to be a tough one. But yeah, I'm really happy to be here again. This is my 15th time, so I'm enjoying right now to be here and playing, so hopefully I can stay as long as I can.
