Just checking, normal matches won't be on free to air except the final?
Is that right?
Cheers

wish seven would show some more action, maybe like quarters and semis late at night or something. Oh well, looking forward to the final anyway.

That sucks, Channel 7 are playing Cleopatra, I don't understand with free to air and three foxtel sports channels you would think somebody would pick it up.

We can only hope that Channel 7 is successful in their lawsuit against Foxtel, News Corp, Fox Sports, PBL, Telstra(and a heap of other companies) and that C7 is restored. The biggest case in Australia's history. The case was delayed, because the court had to be upgraded to fit all the lawyers in. Started October 2005. And once it's over - then the appeal process will start once it over.

C7 didn't die. It disappeared because News Corp and PBL(who combined own 50% of Foxtel), own 100% of Fox Sports. And they did not want a competing channel on their network.

When Fox Sports first started on Optus it had to do so under the name Optus Sports, as Foxtel had an exclusive agreement with Fox Sports in the metro areas - and Foxtels other shareholder (Telstra who owns 50%) wouldn't let an exception be made.

But one of Fox Sports demands to Optus was that they had to cancel their contract with C7, otherwise they wouldn't allow their channel on to the Optus network.

Now it's clear Seven is in the legal right, it's just a matter of proving it. - Same as their claims that the rights to the NRL competition were biased - with C7 offering twice as much as Fox Sports and C7 having a dedicated League channel. The 50% News Ltd owned NRL, went with the vastly superior Fox Sports offer - but of course they said they weren't biased(that would be illegal), and that they went with the reduced offer because the public wouldn't want a dedicated channel.

If they win, we'll be back to full coverage of the Gold Coast, more Sydney matches, more Adelaide matches and a lot more throughout the year.

Channel 7 have the rights to the full tournament. They could make a deal with Fox Sports to on-sell the rights if they wanted, but since 7 is currently suing Fox Sports and Foxtel (and all of their shareholders) the negotiations wouldn't go to well - look at the AFL. In Brisbane and Sydney where no one watches it, they're even looking at showing the matches on Channel 31(community TV) because Seven can't make a deal with Fox Sports (Channel 31 because the AFL often comes 5th in QLD so SBS don't want them - the only time each week when SBS beats any of the commercial networks is when one of the commercial networks is showing AFL).

So our only hope is for C7 sport to start up again.

Oh well I guess no WTA matches this year on Australia.

Channel Seven should just show it, if they have the rights. Why not?

It's expected to be finished mid-year. But then the appeal process will start, and will go for at least 12 months (probably more). So there won't be a final decision before mid-2008 at the very earliest.
