She was a QFist in both the US Open and Orange Bowl Junior Championships. She seems to be a talented up and coming Croat. Hopefully she will do some big things in 2007! She starts her year in Australia with the Optus Junior ITF and the Australian Open Juniors. Good Luck Petra!

I know she's a great player! I'm sorry she had to ret. at Orange B. 'cause I think she could have won it!
Jelena Kostanic said that she will be big star in the future!http://i98.photobucket.com/albums/l246/tennismaster8820/cro-emo.gif

She is in the SF of the G1 Nottinghill tournament leading up to the Australian Open Juniors next week. She plays Arina Rodionova next. I think this is a match she should win. Good luck Petra!

Petra is playing at the moment in Las Vegas, challenger!
Her first round opponent is Tatiana Poutchek who is very consistant player, doesn't make a lot of errors. It's realy tough draw for such a young player like Martić who has no experience at this level!
Good luck!

I guess Tatiana was too consistant!

croat123
Mar 22nd, 2007, 05:23 AM
i went 0 for 8 today on player i supported and whose matches i went too
i ended up skipping class to see martic. she's awesome, but she was so nervous.
rain started falling when she was up 4-1 and she asked the ump to stop play because she was afraid of slipping. then, she ended up slipping on a line at 4-3 and they finally suspended play.
i wrote a full report in the score thread in GM
iva majoli was at the match (i got a picture with her :D). she has offered martic a wc into the 75K zagreb. petra just needs more matches, she was the better player today. she had terrible luck at 4-5 in the second with two net cords going against her and she was the victim of a bad call while jidkova was serving to stay in it in the third.

croat123, if you will watch Petra at luxilon cup, just give a short report how she played, thanks!

croat123
Mar 28th, 2007, 06:43 AM
i saw her today. de brito injured her back in practice and pulled out. tara moore was really short, but quite heavy (i.e. fat) and hit a huge ball. she tried to play sprem-like tennis and really hit some great shots, but also made a lot of errors. martic's serve was just too much for moore to handle. petra had about 10 aces in the match and 0 double faults. the only thing she should have done more of in the second set was come to net, other than that it was a solid match. hopefully she wins tomorrow (i can't go :( )

I was really impressed with Petra.

I saw all of her matches at the Luxilon Cup and she was great.

She just does everything really solid and her serve is so tough to break when she's serving well.

Against her first two opponents she was just clearly better than them and she really gave Hendler a spanking infront of all of Hendler's Bolleteri people. I think Petra was really focused for this match.

Against Cirstea she fought really hard coming back from 0-4 down to get it to 5-5, saving two set points at 4-*5. Cirstea served for the set against at 6-5, but Petra hit great shots to get it to a tiebreak. She played a bad tiebreak, lost the set, and just deflated in the second set.

But I was really impressed with her. :)

sorona is older and also very good. i think petra's serving let her down a bit in that match.

i actually think she's the best singles player on that team :tape:
she and jelena are good friends. maybe they will play the doubles because i'm sure that petra would make a great doubles player with her big serve and great volleys

Yes, I watched them all and Ivana is realy too eratic, even more than Sanja I think!
I wonder if Prpic thinks the same, will he take a "risk" with Petra Martic!;)
It would be smart and brave choice, something he never showed before!

tennismaster8820

I'm also sure that they would lose their matches! I'm not convinced that Jelena will win her matches too!
Petra is young and very often these young players have no fear to go for their shots, so she definetly deserves a chance!
I don't like Prpic, he doesn't look like a person who can motivate anyone, he is just too phlegmatic!
I realy, realy hope he'll let Petra play!

There was an article today about FC in "Sportske Novosti" and according to it, Prpic is trying to decide who'll get the opportunity to play aginst Germany as second player, Sanja or Ivana!:o
I guess that means Petra won't play! :(

croat123
Apr 14th, 2007, 09:46 PM
ugh, that's definately the wrong decision to be making. both ivana and sanja will lose for sure, i really think petra is the best out of the three right now

tennismaster8820
Apr 15th, 2007, 11:12 PM
Sanja beat their first player ( I can't remember her name at the moment :o :tape: ) in final of some chalenger last year, so that's why he will let her play I think! :o
I definetly agree with you, Petra would be much better option!

croat123
Apr 16th, 2007, 01:05 AM
she beat muller last year in three sets. but that was when sanja was on fire. sanja is no where near that form right now

tennismaster8820

No, it's not Muller, she won't play Fed Cup, their first player has rank of 9x!

tennismaster8820

croat123

neither do i. petra is a much more stable player than ivana, she would have won today

tennismaster8820
Apr 21st, 2007, 03:55 PM
I hope she will play tomorow, if not Croatia has no chance at all, that's my opinion! :o
It looks like Prpic doesn't follow women's tennis enough or he just has no clue what to do!
I also don't like him leading DC team, he is so phlegmatic and looks totally disinterested during matches! He should be the one who will motivate his players and chear for them!

croat123

tennismaster8820

Does she play stop volleys or deep ones?
I hope you are right about Kostanic winning against Groenefeld, I'm not so sure! :scared:

both, she's very, very good up at net and has great form
and her serve would be great for setting jelena up for the poach because it is very hard to attack. her first serve is powerful and her second serve has so much kick

tennismaster8820
Apr 22nd, 2007, 12:51 PM
wow, I can't wait to see her play!
I started to hate Goran Prpic now! :fiery:
He is main reason we'll lose against Germany!

croat123
Apr 22nd, 2007, 03:02 PM
omg ivana sucked again
and he put ancic (injured) and kostanic in doubles :o

tennismaster8820
Apr 22nd, 2007, 03:18 PM
I could only understand all this if Petra is injured!

croat123
Apr 22nd, 2007, 03:29 PM
she's not...this is pissing me off sooooooooo much
his excuse was that she doesn't have experience. well, you're probably going to lose anyways so let her get some experience by putting her in you dumbass :fiery:
hopefully she does well at the upcoming challengers in makarska and zagreb (i'm assuming she's gonna get a WC) so she can secure a playing spot for our next tie

tennismaster8820
Apr 22nd, 2007, 04:09 PM

My dream captains would be Goran and Iva! :hearts:

croat123
Apr 22nd, 2007, 06:20 PM
iva and goran should totally do fed cup and davis cup :hearts:
the girls found a way to lose doubles :o and kostanic is supposedly a solid doubles player. ancic must have played like shit. she was terrible in miami

martic withdrew from 10K Bol
she is listed as an alternate for 25K Makarska (she'll definately get a WC if she wants to play and has the tournament listed as her first priority for the week)
she's not playing 10K Mostar
Iva Majoli was at her match in Miami and she told me that Petra will be playing the 75K in Zagreb

tennismaster8820
Apr 22nd, 2007, 07:28 PM
I hope I'll watch her in Zagreb then! :hearts:
Iva was interested in taking responsability of Cro FC captain, but she couldn't gat it, not everybody was agreeing with it!
I hope now she'll get the chance when they get rid of the loser! :p

I wouldn't be surprised if they both played like shit, I have no faith at all in any of our players except Petra!
I hope next time Karolina will play! :hearts:

she's gonna be on bwin.com tomorrow vs. ozegovic. it could be a tough match, but i think she is better than nika. a win puts her just above lucic at about 440. a loss puts her in the 500s. the winner of that match has a very tough semi vs either meusburger or ondraskova

tennismaster8820
May 16th, 2007, 08:40 PM
What a match this was from Petra! :worship:
I have lots of pictures and videos from it!
She made Greta Arn look less then ordinary!
Petra plays so easy, her shots are so natural, she has fantastic serve not just for a 16 yearold, her second serve is very impressive too!
I enjoyed her backhand down the line winners!
Today she started very well, Greta couldn't get into match because Martic was mixing her game great, hiting some great serves, backand winners and some nice drop shots! In the second set Arn started to fight harder and Petra became nervous and lost confidence, so there was a period where she hardly won any points, til 0/3 in the third set!
That was a moment when she started to risk more and playing smartly to Arn's forehand, she played just too good and after she won the most important game to lead 4/3 match was hers!
What a talent Petra is! Great win, a little miracle! :D :worship:

tennismaster8820
May 16th, 2007, 10:23 PM
Yes, she is realy amazing for her age and her body is still growing and imagine how good she can become in two years time!
Her serve is great! Wonderful! I have video of her playing, also match point but I can't upload it now because of my stupid computer!
When she plays good, it looks so easy and simple! :hearts:
Whenever she was down, making mistakes and playing poorly she would look at her mother who is great, always calm and confident, giving strong feeling of security to her daughter! That's one of the reasons for her comeback today! :yeah:

tennismaster8820
May 17th, 2007, 07:51 PM
Oh, what to say about this match!
Nika is in great form, she played agressive and didn't make as many mistakes as Petra!
Also in that first set Nika had so much luck! :o
First she took advantage of slow start from Martić, then during whole set she hit so many lines not going for winners and to top it all she had ridiculous luck in tie-break!
I suspected Petra would lose and it happened, it just wasn't her day!

This is what Petra said after she beat Chala yestaerday:
The courts are very hard, almost like concrete. "The balls are very fast", so I'm afraid to go for my shots. Little mistake and ball flies out of the court. In these two matches I didn't play anything special but victories are all that counts.

makarska ladies open

- Nikada još nisam gledala Sandu kako igra, no niti se ne opterećujem time. Igrat ću svoju igru i to je to – poručila je Splićanka dok se Sanda tek vozila iz Zagreba prema Splitu.

Wow, *very* impressive. I didn't expect Petra to beat Panova (ranked #233) in R1 yet she won in straight sets. I definitely didn't expect her to beat Flipkens (#145; #5 seed) in R2 yet she won again in straights. And again, I didn't expect her to beat Pivovarova (#178) in the QFs yet she won easily, again in straights. Petra hasn't lost a set this week and all her matches have been against opponents ranked much higher!

Her next opponent, Jovanovic, has also been playing well this week (beat Mamic 61 63, then beat the #4 and #6 seeds) and also is ranked much higher than Petra (#272 vs #371). Still, Jovanovic is ranked lower than the other players Petra beat this week so if she plays well again she has a good chance to win.

Regardless of what happens tomorrow, this has been an excellent tournament for Petra. It's her best result ever (29 ranking points) and she will move into the top 300 for the first time (to around #285-290). Also, I'm really glad to see her regaining her form from late last year. This girl is good and seems to be the real thing but I was becoming concerned because she hadn't had great results this year.

Finally a title for one of Croatian girls - it's been a while, especially on bigger tournaments, like this.

Petra really showed that she's a great talent, but her head is still not where it should be. She's got wonderful shot-making skills, great serve, can make a nice offencive point...but she has to cut down on UE's A.S.A.P.!

So, next tournament is most probably Portoroz, and then I'm guessing she'll go to the States, cause she said she'd like to play US Open qualies.

P. S. Does she remind anyone else of Iva Majoli, in terms of appearance (face)? Of course, she'd have to grow some boobs to really look like her:lol:

Her last win was in the 1st round of 's-Hertogenbosch, so over a month ago, and her only notable result this year was in Indian Wells (3rd round). They've never played eachother.

Good luck Petra:wavey:

I'll be cheering for Zakopalova to be the one to play Petra, cause she's not even close to her best (unlike Suarez Navarro) and she's basically a claycourter which I think would give Petra some chance on her favorite surface.

P. S. For those who can watch it, SLO2 will have coverage from Portoroz as of tomorrow, so maybe a chance to see Petra on tv!

I would, but I'm not exactly tehnically equiped:sad: And we don't even know if her match will be among those showed on tv. Besides, can we even upload such large files here?

Hope someone can help about this.

become a new fan after watching this match
(pity the stream couldn't broacast till the end so i miss the last few games)

she played well, i'm impressed by her backhand mixed up with some slice. And she got big serve, though she's not serving very well in this match, still can trouble Klara a lot.

glad she won the match, hope to see her more in the future. :)

Wow, impressive win from Petra. With this win, next week she'll be the sixth-highest ranked player under 18 years old:

1 Pavlyuchenkova (top 100)
2 Paszek (top 100)
3 Radwanska, U (~150)
4 Larcher De Brito (~170)
5 Moore (~175)

I was hoping this would happen, but what a way to win! Klara having 5:2 in the 2nd with all the experience on her side and it still wasn't enough! Welcome to top200 Petra! She's the 5th Croatian in that club at the moment, and a semi would make her Croatian #3...but let's not get carried away:) My Slovenian isn't actually good, but I understood a lot of praise commentators had for Petra being a complete and an all-around player. Her serve is a big weapon on this surface, her groundies are very good also and she can use the net too. I can't say her game is visually spectacular as that of Mirjana Lucic that often left us gasping in her young days, but it's a solid game that's got quality, and that's what makes good players. I also love it how she can make shot-making look easy, which is another quality of great players. Of course, there's still room for development, and she tends to rush and push even when it's not neccessary, but she'll mature, and I'm sure she'll become one tough cookie;)

I'm not expecting anything against Srebotnik, whatever she does here I'm OK with it, cause she's already done more than I expected. As long as she stays healthy I have no doubts she'll keep getting better.

Good luck Petra:wavey:

My Slovenian is quite good and they were saying all great things about Petra. They said that they don't know alot about her but that the experts say that she is potential to be TOP 10. Many times they were so impresed with her mental strengh. It was so suprising for them that she looked like 27 year old, not Zakopalova. They were also suprised with her game cause she mixed a lot, sprecially in 1st set. And they said that she has good serve, but that it could be ''killer serve'' one day.
Also they said things we already know. She is good, but now is the time the work hard cause there are still some things she has to work on. She could shoot even stronger and should gain same weight. In next year she has to work hard as never in her life if she wants to be TOP. I hope she can do it. Next is Georges wich beat Srebotnik easily today. I watch the end of the match and she looked great. She plays really agresive with a lot of risic. She had so many winners(31) in a short match. She is going to be hard, but she is a player that can play great today, but not so good tomorow. GL Petra!

I had the same impression, I couldn't believe how mentally fragile Zakopalova looked for such an experienced player.

And they said it for Zakopalova too - that she's inconsistent - which prooved to be true. I like what you say about Goerges, that she's agressive, cause I think Petra better handles such players than those who get the ball back over and over again. When a 19 y.o. is ranked 99 (and she was as high as 93) it sounds impressive, but a look at her year says more. She beat Srebotnik in R1 at Wimbledon too, but in Rome 75k she lost to Meusberger in straight sets, in Saint - Malo she lost to Han, and in IW qualies to an unranked Zalameda. I think her only win over top100 player this year (appart from Srebotnik) was against Mattek. She's still a favorite, but I believe Petra can do some damage here. Sorry for a long(ish) post and a weird quoting;)

AJMO Petra:bounce:

P. S. I'm affraid we won't get to see that match on tv:fiery: cause it's the last one on centre court (Kirilenko - Errani will be live). So let's keep our fingers crossed for a win, so that we get to watch her tomorrow:D

She took a set, but that was it:sad:

Anyway, a great tournament, hope she plays at least another one before US Open qualies (she'll get in right?). She's in a really nice position to come close to top 150 by the end of the US Open. This was a really good learning experience for her and a great confidence booster, I'm sure.
