View Full Version : Today was my last day at my first work

Some of you probably already know it, today was my very last day at my first work ever. I've worked there for two years but now it's over. I held on pretty well until almost the end but knew I would crack up at some point. At around 3pm I started to say goodbye to each of my colleague. When I arrived at one of m favorite, who i really consider a friend, I totally cracked up, i started crying, I could even really say goodbye to the ones left it was awful, it took me almost an hour to stop crying, it's really weird. I reall don't care about losing my job (I found another one anyway). But there are some eprson I won't get to see every day now and it really feels weird. I guess the fact that it's my first job doesn't help... I really don't feel well right now       (hugs welcome  )

 If they are friends of yours, you can alway stay in touch and see them outside of work.

Yeah I know they keep telling me that but still it's weird, i guess also because it's a part of my life which is now over, and it's really the first time it has happened to me... it really feels weird

It's not really weird, cause mostly you see your colleagues all week, even more than your friends and family.

That is so funny because today is also my last day of work at my first job. I worked as a Retail clerk at Tower Records for about 13 months now and today is my last day there because the store is shutting down tomorrow.

 Bibi. Lets go home and cuddle together to make each other feel better. :D

Well, Greg, I've had my last day at first job day little more than a year ago... and I remember I went through something similar. I knew I'd still be able to keep in touch with certain people I cared for, yet the very moment I started to say bye - it was also just before the summer holidays - I knew I was kinda walking up those stairs for the last time, walking along that corridor for the last time... and even though it wasn't even literally true - I've been there again, as a matter of fact - I knew it was the last time I was there as an employee... and that a chapter of my life was getting to the end.

I didn't cry, but on my way out, as I walked through the courtyard, I looked back and felt weird... and for some time I have kind of avoided driving by there, cuz it felt weird to do so without being a part of it anymore.

So here's a very big  for you, and good luck with your new work experience!

Sorry, hon, too bad you're so upset and Helen isn't there to take away the pain for you. :D

With work, my experience is, you're upset for a day or so, and then you totally forget the people from the other job. Friends at work always say they'll keep in touch, they never do. It's actually sort of sad, but after a couple of days away, basically no one cares anymore. I guess the good news is, your tears and anguish will be short-lived.

 I guess being drunk doesn't help for your emotional stability ;) But I understand that it is tough to 'lose' those people, as you will never be around them that much anymore. But that doesn't stop you from staying in touch with them. Is your new job close to the old one? If so, you could go out to have lunch with them for instance.
