Who will win ASB Classic 2007?

Vote in the poll above and post below why you think she will win

Just some notes;
Jelena Jankovic has played here a couple of times but never made the final
Anastasia Myskina may not like the surface (you cant get too much more opposite from RG to here)
Marion Bartoli won here last year so is defending all those points
Daniela Hantuchova was lucky to make the semis last year (I was there when she struggled against Oblizer)
Vera Zvonareva was one of the crowd favourites last year, she made the final very surprisingly
Eleni Daniilidou has won here before, will probably be a crowd favourite
The kiwis will get loads and loads of crowd support, dont be too surprised if someone like Jamea or Shenay goes down to them in the first round

I'll be an idiot and say Daniela Hantuchova ends her title drought. But I'll be rooting for Nastya as always.

Well, I think that LEANNE BAKER will win the singles title here!!!

Shes came close in the doubles before after years trying, shes tried here for 8 years or so - will be interesting to the strength of New Zealand at the moment will push her to get better singles results.
I dont think me or even Leannes biggest supporter Leanne Luver (formerly bakers boy) thinks that Leanne has much of a shot but she will hopefully give it her all thats for sure

Come on Leanne..hope you can prove everyone wrong!! You can win this. Anything is possible.

I wouldnt mind all 3 kiwis loosing if they loose in a tightly fought contest to Jelena, Anastasia and Daniella. Ellen said that the best experience shes ever had was versing Sania Mirza and even though she lost in straight sets she certainly proved that she has some shots that can beat some top players.
As much as I hate to say this, I realisticly cant see a kiwi winning here.....but this is one time where I wish to be wrong

Myskina all the way!

She won the St. Anton exhibition tournament this week where she beat schnyder in the final!

Im not really sure if Myskinas play will suit ASBs Hardcourts thats why I wouldnt pick her to win, I could be wrong though

Surprising because she did have a tough part of the draw, versing Suarez in the first round, Cho in the second round (a former finalist), Kirilenko in the quarterfinals and Hantuchova in the semifinals.

Well they basically need ranking points. That's what you need to receive to actually live a good life on the tour!!! So losing should never been an option - regardless of your opposition!!!

Well ive always been taught to make sure you hammer lower ranked players and compete against the higher ranked players. Many NZ Juniors have been taught this, so their not really afraid of losing to higher ranked players - this also means that if the higher ranked player is having a bad day then you can pick up on it and cause an upset.

You been taught that? I been taught to beat whoever the hell your opponent is!!! It shouldn't matter who it is if your playing 88yr old Grandma from down the road or Venus Williams - LOSING SHOULD NEVER BE AN OPTION

The reality is that its not possible to win every match though, thats just one those hard rules. Losing is awful (I dont think you'll find anyone who would deny that) but you can always learn from mistakes - I tend to learn far more from matches that I loose than in the matches I win. This is why I would like to see Marina and Sacha play top 20 players in the first round.

"Anything is possible" is relating to luck right...
Tennis is one of the sports which has the least amount of luck to it IMO

Myskinas a very tough player, true shes not as good as she was when she was ranked number 2 in the world but she still has some very skillful shots. Shes very much a star attraction into the tournament (along with Dani, Jelena, Marion, Eleni, Vera)

Myskina HAS BEEN a very tough player. But now she is nowhere near her 2004, or 2003, or 2002, or even second half of 2005 level. She is the weakest link among the seeds. And if I were lower-ranked player I would prefer to play her in the first round rather than Jankovic, Bartoli, Hantuchova, Zvonareva and others.

Yes, Myskina did have a bad end to 2006, but there are many factors for this, having a injuries she had doesn't help. But months out, and the time she spent working on her tennis, I don't see how you can say she is the weakest amounst the seeds. 2007 is a new season, a new season where she will shine.

I want so badly to be proven wrong but let face the facts. Myskina has done nothing since Moscow 2004. It's two years now. Two long years, not just a couple of bad tournaments. And I don't see how she could change her downfall trend in 2007.
Most probably she will be out of top 20 after the Australian Open and out of top 30 after Tokyo.
