Do you think that in 2007, Shahar will break through into the top 15, or stay around top 20? She finished last year at #47, if I'm not mistaken, and this year at #20 (including 3 titles).

Will she top 2006, achievment wise, and continue to pose a threat to the big guns? I sure hope so.

I just hope she stays far from Nastya in the draws....

Personally, I hope she stays away from draws, which means stays away from tennis!

And why is that, may I ask?

Well she's obviously not the prettiest girl on tour, but who (aside of sponsors) really cares. She won't model for Sports Illustrated, but that won't affect her being a good player, and better than some hot ones.

hopefully justice will show her lovely face in 2007 and the rankings will get back to showing who's worth what, thus the inflations will drop out.
she's top30 at the moment, no more.
bovina, tulyaganova, dechy, sugiyama, pierce, davenport, williams are top stars ranked below her that should easily go back up if healthy and playing.
Zvonareva, Golovin, Danilidou should go back to where they belong
Krajicek, Radwanska, Rezai, King, Peng, Stosur should put thier talent into a march upwards, and you can add in your usual russian addition to the fortress of top20.
at any cost, there are plenty of players that should go up, while i don't see a valid reason for her to improve on her rank other than the first few weeks of point loss from other top20 players.

she's a good player, she's going to keep winning the smaller events, but she's not what you imagine when you think top20.
her luck will eventually run out, the question is how much talent does she have to block off a major downfall.

I hope she will break the top 15, but I'm not sure it's going to happen this year. Anyway, Shahar is very talented so I think she will make some troubles next year. Go Shahar :worship:
And some haters here are

She'll definitely be in the top 15 IMO. She has great mental aspects to her game, great fighter and competitor. Though if she were to break into the top 10, she has to try and flatten that forehand out a bit more regulary in matches, has a tendency to go a bit loopy and moonballish. if that happens, sky's the limit along with that technically superb backhand:D

Here's to a great 07 shahar!:aparty:

Hopefully she will manage to do as well if not better than 2006. Her game is very entertaining to watch and she is such a sweet girl. Best of luck Shahar!

She doesn't have much points to defend in the start of the year and
Rebound Ace is one of her surfaces where she excels in, so here
is a reason for you why she can go up.

About the names, she is not any less talented they most of
the names you wrote here.

However, you are right about the general idea.
Right now, she is a 15-25 player.. She improved her serve
and forehand so much this year and if she'll continue to do that
no reason why she shouldn't be a top 10-15 in two years.

Good luck in 07 Shahar :D :)

She should keep a great ranking and have some big wins but I'm pretty sure she won't, be able to win any Fed Cup match in singles against Canada, Steph and Aleks will kick her ass

I wish her the best of luck in 2007! Go Shahar!

She has the making of a top 10 player i think next year we could expect her to move into that top 15 area and maybe the year after that top 10.

I think she will hover around 15-25 range for most of the year. I'd be surprised if she had sustained run inside the top 15.

"who's worth what..." Isn't it the idea behind the ranking system?
You sound like all those saying that Mauresmo was not the "real" number one because Serena is much better than her...

If lucky and healthy and playing and younger and better... There are too many if in your estimation...

Shahar deserves the top 20 ranking she got at the moment. I'll not be disapointed if she will fall a little in the ranking next year but I really hope she will maintain her current ranking and even improve it.

She is a young, good and talented player, she got the ambition, she is not targetting the small tournaments. She have many areas to improve in her game and she is aware of it. She can be better and I'm sure she will do it.

Good luck in 2007!

I'm in two minds.

At the French Open, I felt she was a future top 5 player. A great many people did. However, seeing the way she fell to so many top 20 players at the end of the year, I began to think I had overestimated her.

We'll see.

As for the remarks about her appearance, obviously she's not Anna Pornikova, or Maria Blondapova or Daniela Hanstickova.

Her WTA profile mug shot is not the most flattering. However, I've seen her interviewed and she has a lovely smile and a radiance about her. She's not as ugly as she looks in that WTA profile.

To be honest, very few people would look good in those profiles. Have you noticed how many of the women have changed theirs this year?

Well, she only fell to top 10 players, except Anna C.

It's sick that there are people who judge her by her looks. That's shallow.

Top 15.

Last year, like Bartoli they both ended up end of top 20. If they want to be nearer the top 10, they have to do well in GS, Tier I&II's. Unless they want to stay tier III material....

I think the competition is very strong in the 11-20 group, and Peer will probably be in that group this year.

so far so good :) keep moving up Shahar. :yeah:
I think she is the most constantly improving youngster in the last few years. always improving step by step, curve is always upward :)

I remember the topics here in the live scores in 2005 when players like Mirza and Safarova won titles and lost in the first round at the same time, while Shahar lost time after time at the QF. Many people here said Shahar in not in their league, but I said give her time she is constantly improving.. she'll get there eventually and be even better.
Props also to the poster Kutuzova who always said Shahar will be in the top and has top 10 potential. even when Shahar was ranked 500 in January and people were like 'wtf?'.

top 20-yes
top 10-no
She's doing great against players ranked below her but I'm scared she's losing too easy to consistent and top players like Kim this week( shahar won 3 games) JHH @ USO (1 game :help: ) Nadia @Linz (2 games :tape:) and I don't know WHY because she has great game!

She is very talented and such a great fighter!!

I think she will end 2007 ranked 12-16, it's really hard to predict though because the top 25 is getting tougher with so many talented young players and accomplished veterans all competing!!
