FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (Dec. 5) - Former tennis star Chris Evert's divorce is final after she signed a settlement that calls for her to pay her ex-husband $7 million in cash and securities by Wednesday.

Evert, 51, and skiing hall-of-famer Andy Mill, 53, were divorced Monday afternoon after Circuit Judge Arthur Birken signed off on the settlement.

Evert also will become the primary caretaker of the couple's three sons, ages 15, 12 and 10, according to the settlement.

Mill and Evert, the winner of 18 Grand Slam tournaments, were married for 18 years.

Provisions in the settlement included that Mill receive a $3 million wire transfer to his bank and a $2 million deposit to his retirement account, as well as $2 million in securities.

Evert keeps the couple's $2.8 million home in suburban Boca Raton, and Mill gets their $4 million vacation home in Aspen, Colo.

Financial disclosure forms indicated Evert's worth to be $24 million.

It seems to have been a friendly divorce. Andy must have been a good husband for the marriage to have lasted 18 years, especially in this day and age. Hopefully, they will remain good friends for the kids sake.

See, it sounds like she cheated on him. In another interview he was upset and I think they put it "on the verge of tears." Why else would have gotten such a large settlement so quickly?

I don't agree with the folks who are saying: "poor Chrissy". C'mon ,you see settlements like this all the time with men handing over the loot to the woman. I'm surprised she only has 24 million. I would have thought she had more.

Good luck to both of them.

Mill had some money before the marriage and the Colorado mansion might have been his to start with.

The man market is virtually nonexistent for divorced women over age 50, so Chrissie had better be prepared to pay out some good cash to bring in the next guy.

I noticed that quote with Thomas Edison. Seems like Thomas tried to take another inventor, Granville T. Woods to the cleaners when Granville worked a little harder than him in inventing the multiplex telegraph which prevented trains from crashing into each other. Yet, Thomas tried to claim he invented it and took him to court in which Granville ended up winning. Thomas tried to buy his patent by offering him money and jobs so that he can own the patent. However, Granville refused to give and maintained his independence and anominity.

Seven million dollars, the home in Aspen and the right to be the "good" (non-custodial) parent who spoils the kids? Andy Mill is a P-I-M-P. ;)

First of all, Chris Evert is from Florida and Andy Mills was the Olympic skier. That's probably one reason why she gladly shelled out the Aspen property.

Secondly, it sounds like there was no pre-nup, which meant that things could have been much worse if he fought for the children as well. So, when it came to the children, it was probably just easier to give up cash than have to pay alimony and share the children.

She kept over half of her assests including her children, and no future alimony payments.

With Chris' current business interests and income potential, its obvious Andy was the big loser here.

$11 million is less than half of Evert's $24 million in assets.

If it were that Andy Mill was the breadwinner of that family, the settlement would have been much different. Andy Mill never had his own money.

Again, without having to make alimony payments as well, Chris' income potential makes her the big winner here. Her roots are in Boca Raton, he was the Aspen-ite. She keeps the children. And Chris has a much better potential of marrying "up" than he.

Dec 9th, 2006, 01:22 AM
He doesn't need to marry up. He just got $11 million of Chrissie's assets.
That will last him a lifetime. And he doesn't pay child support. No more bills. No mortgage.
Chrissie has to pay those college tuitions.

Ok, if he doesn't have to pay child support that totally sucks. I definetly believe in prenups. Like I said, Chrissy is still well off...more well off than 99% of the world still, but she did get taken that's for sure. It's insane that he can have a $4million house, $11million, and not have to take care of any of the kids nor pay child support.

eh, that's what happens if you were in the wrong and/or just don't want your dirty laundry aired. I know I read something about her and Greg Norman being 'friends'.

They could've had a prenup but maybe after being married for a certain amount of time the prenup was invalid?

Also, during those 18 years maybe Chrissy made 14 million and her spouse would be entitled to half that? and for all those saying he should work, it's not his money......would you say the same for a housewife who never had a salary during her marriage? Of course not, because a marriage is a partnership in which you negotiate how you will navigate your life together. We don't know what his role was in the marriage, just because he wasn't worth as much as her financially doesn't mean he didn't give as much as her in the marriage.

Not all of us have that "special" gift of rumor-spreading like you, Great One. You are too easy to "read," Ms. Wendy. Of course, even you know that your favs will never historically approach Ms. Evert on any level professionally. Ever.

And you will never see any police reports posted on the web about any suspected domestic violence, either. Some people that live in southern Florida just don't know how to keep their business out of the news...know what I mean???? Now that's retarded. ;)

Why would he have to pay child support when Chrissy is the bread winner? That makes no sense at all. I do agree with you that she was taken GOOD. Whatever she did must of made hubby really upset to go this route. The way in which he is demanding the money tells me that the guy is heartbroken.

I knew Chrissy was a bit touched, but I didn't think she would drop the ball where her finances were concerned. Getting a prenupt to protect her assets would of been the smart thing to do. I guess she thought it would last forever, but now she's gonna pay.:)

No one really knows whether or not a prenup existed, because after 18 years of marriage, a prenup, depending upon its contents, may have lapsed due to time constraints within the document.

Regardless of the circumstance, splitting assets (of which Chris still has > 50% of her assets) is appropriate when an 18 year marriage ends. If the marriage had ended in 3 years and he got half, Chris would have gotten taken for a ride. But in this case, after 18 years of marriage, the right thing occured.

The only thing Chrissy was touched with is greatness, and that's all you need to know.

From the terms of the settlement it doesn't look like Chris had a prenupt. It's possible to include certain clauses in a prenupt that doesn't lapse or expire. Ask Donald Trump. She was either unprepared or blinded by love.

I could understand if her ex had custody of the three boys, but he's pocketing alot of dough without much responsibility which leads me to believe:

1. Chris was cheating
2. Chris wanted to protect her image at all costs
3. She knew that if she didn't settle, their was a possibility she could lose her children.

Actually, I remember reading at the time of her marriage that Chris did not want a pre-nup even though her family and friends encouraged her to. She was in love - she's not the only one to have thought that way.
