Wednesday, 29 November 2006 Hi everyone!
I promised last time I was going to tell you a little bit about my vacation and here I`m :) I dont really know where to start, but ill try to start from the beginning. As soon as I finished my season in Hasselt I went straight back home to Moscow. I spent all my vacation time overthere, but it was really nice. Even though I wanted to go somewhere to relax on the beach (I even reserved tickets to Jamaica) I`m not upset that I didnt...its just while I was at home I realised I`m not ready to go on the plane and leave my new apartment (i moved in a new place 6 month ago)....so I stayed :) It was really exiting, cause I finally got the chance to spend some time with my friends and go snowboarding, ice skating and rollerblading, which I didnt do in yeeeeeeeeears... I`m not kidding :)

Also my mom was cooking for me and it was great too. I love her food! I would love to cook ike her, but it really tough for me to learn while I`m travelling so much. I also have a cat at home, his name is Jan (or Jean in French) and he is cute :) He was white when he was little and he is brown :)
Ok guys, Ill come back tomorrow or aftertomorrow and tell you a little more. By the way tomorrow is the first time i`m planning to go on the court since my break :)
Bye bye

Great stuff. Vera seems like a lovely girl. :)

This vacation is probably the first time she's spent in her new apartment since she bought it. Considering all the travelling she's done I would stay at home too.

So who looks after the cat when she's gone? :cat:

Latest diary entry -

I told you yesterday, that today I was planning to hit for the first time since my break....and I did :) It was fun, even though it felt a little weird, like i took the racket for the first time in my life. It was also tough cause I felt really sore in my legs after my workouts over the last few days. I\\`m not sure if I mentioned it before, but I\\`m in Tampa right now with my coach Sam and another player Meilen Tu. I\\`m planning to play a little bit of tennis tomorrow morning as well, I hope I\\`m not to tired :) Weather was pretty nice last few days, hope it stays like this.
Ok, i\\`ll see in couple days,

Seriously asking - not poking fun - has she ever explained her crying and temper tantrums on court, in her diaries? I wonder what she has to say about it... not just the minor things but the really bad ones.

I\`ll see u next week :) Next weekend I\`m planning to do some more fun, maybe :)

are you serious? the first one was cute but the latest one? "I did fitness, I played tennis, I got tired, I watched DVDs, it was fun..." I could write a more entertaining blog about my time in solitary confinement.

That's what makes it so cute though. Obviously they werent written by an accomplished english author, just an innocent Russian girl trying to keep her fans up to date on what she does day-to-day. I think its super cute.

7 December 2006

Hello again!
Its Wednesday evening today and I had 3 not easy days since I spoke to you last time. I did some fitness every day and played tennis on Monday and Tuesday...no tennis today. my coach decided to give me an easier day, so had some time to think about what kind of presents I\`m going to get for my friends for the upcoming holidays. I got couple of them, but I think I\`ll have to do much more shopping on the weekend...:) I hope that the mall is not gonna be to busy, cause normally there is so many people shopping for the upcoming holidays! Also my wrists weren\`t 100 % and it was good I took a day off today...it feels better now. So tomorrow and on Friday ill have another busy days with both - fitness and tennis. I feel like I\`m starting to get my groove on the court again. So im looking forward for my tennis session tomorrow, hope the weather stays nice and I can also get some tan :)
See u soon again,
Bye bye,

Dec 7th, 2006, 11:51 AM
vera's taking her tennis training & her fitness work outs very hard from what i'm hearing. hope she doesn't get too tired or stressed by all this hard work & the tasks of buying presents at busy malls. but she's enjoying it & she's happy which is good to see from her :)

hope 2007 will be a good year for vera.

At least she makes the effort, I suppose. It's not the most exciting diary, but I guess it's better than what I expected:

Got up - early. Cried for a while and then went for breakfast. My fried egg broke, so I screamed at myself for a while until I turned bright red. I regained my composure and finished my breakfast in straight sets before going back to bed. Got up again and went to practice. My practice partner got there before me so I berated myself for being late even though I wasn't and made gestures with my hand exaggerating my dissatisfaction with my time keeping for all the world to see. I almost conceded a game by hitting a forehand long, so I screamed at the sky until I lost my voice and cried for a little while. Somehow I managed to pull myself together to win 60 60, but I took no joy from it. Spent the afternoon working on my fitness...5km run followed by intense sighing exercises and full work out of my overdeveloped frown muscles before a session using a life size cardboard cut out of myself as a punchbag...etc

Dec 7th, 2006, 01:31 PM
Vera isn't like that. She gets emotional during matches, but she enjoys her practices and training.

Dec 7th, 2006, 01:40 PM
I know, I'm only teasing. She has some self-esteem issues (who doesn't?) but I think she improved 200% mentally last year...

Dec 7th, 2006, 04:43 PM
I hope that Vera will have a good year 2007. Top 15-20 is possible for her.

Veras blog reminds me of that Jeff Green line about things you'll never hear a man say to a woman: I'm sorry, could you go through that again...in more detail. :)

Shopping and first games13 December 2006 Hello again :)
Its Tuesday today and I played my first games today since I started practicing. I didnt play well...I mean I didnt play point weel, it felt really weird. I was hitting my shots but couldnt see the ball on time or would get really unpatient. But i did few things good and I think Ill get better at points if I keep trying :) But...I also forgot to tell you about my weekend...I had to do some shopping and it was great, but the mall was packed with so many people, that I got tired waiting in lines... I didnt know what to get for my friends...so it took me a while to go around all the stores and choose something! but I did it! Acyually, last minute, on my way out I got 2 presents, i was so happy, cause I didnt wanna go shopping again! And yesterday me and Meilen we went to see a physio and on the way back we all (Sam, Meilen, Frank-hitting partner and I) stopped by the Cheesecake Factory and grabbed a nice dinner! It is one of our favourite places to eat in the States... Ohhh, since I started talking about the food, I started getting hungry...Ill go grab something to eat!!! :)
See u later :)

Last week in Tampa
21 December 2006

Hey everyone, hope all is well and you getting ready Christmas and New Year\`s Holidays. :)
Now is Thursday morning for me and Ill be getting ready to practice in a little while. I\`ve been playing more games and points in the last few days. It weas to catch my rythm in the begining, but I think I\`m hitting the ball much better now. Also I had a little foot problem, so I wasnt able to play to much. But I think its getting better now and hopefully it will go away by the time I go to Auckland. I also been trying different strings, so that it will help me with my wrists. And it also been pretty windy here, especially in the afternoons! But I also was trying to practice on the Rebound Ace (the surface that they have in Australia), they have one court like this here. Mardy Fish, James Blake and Andy Roddick been practicing here for the last few days as well. Its fun to watch them play different games!!! I can\`t believe that I\`m going to New Zealan in just 3 days(Im leaving early morning on Monday). Time here went so fast! But I\`m looking forward for it, I like New Zealand!

Back in Auckland

28 December 2006 Hi again!
I\\`ve arrived to New Zealand yesterday. It was a long flight but I slept for a little while, so it wasn\\`t too bad.
Sam and Meilen were on the same flight and Sam\\`s bag didnt come, but luckily he received it today. Otherwise he had nothing to wear :) By the time I got to the hotel it was 9am. I relaxed a little bit and went to the courts.
When I got there it started raining, so we went indoors. I ran and did few exercise and streched. I hit few balls, but only just for 10 minutes, just to loosen up after my flight and not to get injured. So last night I slept like 12 hours straight and I was feeling pretty good this morning.
I played twice today. It was a little windy, but its normal for New zealand. Its nice to be back in Auckland, I like it here. Now its time for me to read my book :)
See you later,

Tennis: Russian in mood to go one better

ASB Classic (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/event/index.cfm?c_id=528)

Vera Zvonareva swears she doesn't check the world rankings.
If she did, she would find seven fellow Russians above her No 24 placing on the international women's circuit.
But the cheerful Muscovite insists that doesn't bother her.
She would also discover she's made significant progress this year, which began with finishing singles runner-up and doubles champion in January's ASB Classic in Auckland. Zvonareva jumped from No 78 in June, won two singles titles and four doubles, including the US Open women's and Wimbledon mixed crowns, and pocketed more than US$680,000 ($970,000) for the year.
Not bad going for the 22-year-old, a former world No 9, who is fifth seed for the US$145,000 Classic starting in Auckland on Monday.
"I have only good memories of the final this year," Zvonareva said yesterday after practising on centre court at the ASB Tennis Centre. "Marion [Bartoli] played a great match. But I'm happy with my year."
As for the Russian rivalry, it's no big deal for Zvonareva, who is on her third visit to Auckland.

"I'm really happy for Russian players to play so good and be at the top of the rankings. It's great we have so many players compared with 10 years ago, but I don't compare myself to anyone. I just try to do my best."
Zvonareva is likely to skip next week's doubles, preferring to play at Sydney the following week with French partner Nathalie Dechy, with whom she won the US title in September, ahead of their Australian Open tilt in Melbourne, starting on January 15.
