Nice start to the season :)

Nov 29th, 2006, 12:26 AM
It should be a really good start for her, getting match practice against some of the best in the world, should set her up for a solid Australian Open

Nov 29th, 2006, 11:38 AM
Nice looking line up, should be a nice warm up! Interesting to see 3 russians out of 8, and no all russian doubles team!!

Sveta and Lena just sat down for a joint interview, which I put in the articles section.

Dec 13th, 2006, 03:22 PM
Lindsay is probably out, so Sveta will have a different opponent.

Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova set up a final clash with defending Australian Open doubles champions Zheng Jie and Yan Zi at the Watsons Water Challenge on Thursday.
The duo edged an exciting semi-final against Maria Sharapova, who had earlier earned a hard-fought win over Chinese doubles ace Yan in the singles, and Patty Schnyder 9-8 following a tie-break in the eight-game pro-set.
Clijsters and Kuznetsova will face the Chinese stars on Saturday at the exhibition event ahead of the Melbourne grand slam, which begins on January 15.
The game followed serve until Clijsters was broken to hand Sharapova and Schnyder a 5-4 advantage, but the tie was soon level as the Swiss ace netted after a long rally with the Belgian former US Open champion.
The next six games followed serve before Sharapova was broken and Clijsters held serve to open a 5-3 advantage in the tie-break.
A Schnyder double fault handed Clijsters and Kuznetsova a 6-4 advantage before the 2005 Gold Coast champion over hit a return to concede defeat.

There's also some footage of Sveta in Match I - singles: hitting
balls to the crowd, that sort of thing.

What do y'all think of the new Fila dress on Sveta? I'm not used
to the ruffles on the bottom of the dress; it's so different from
the kind of thing she usually wears.

Jan 4th, 2007, 05:30 PM
Tnx Mary!

That dress is quite funny, coz we've never seen Svets with such thing... ;)

Jan 4th, 2007, 05:49 PM
Kind of hides part of her thighs, too (I'm not so fond of Sveta
hiding her thighs.)

Kuznetsova pulls out of Hong Kong exhibition with bronchitis

HONG KONG (AP) -Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova pulled out of the Champions Challenge on Saturday because of bronchitis.

It wasn't immediately clear if the illness would prevent her from playing in the Australian Open, which starts Jan. 15.

Kuznetsova, the 2004 U.S. Open winner, appeared fatigued during the tournament and struggled with her movement.

She lost in three sets to Switzerland's Patty Schnyder in the first round on Wednesday, but beat China's Zheng Jie in straight sets Friday in the losers' playoff semifinal.

Kuznetsova was scheduled to face China's Yan Zi in the final on Saturday and play in the doubles final.

wateva was at the match with Patty -

sveta was very funny on court. she was very animated and there was once she mishit a backhand and it landed in for a winner. she shrugged her shoulders at patty and kissed her racquet. another time, sveta tried to overpower patty by just smakcing the ball at patty. but patty got everything back. sveta eventually made an error and screamed as kneeled down at the court.
