OK it is early but the tour is BORING right now so it is never too early to speculate :tape:  . I think the maximum number of teams any country can send is 2 teams ... so who will play together with who? If there are no injuries, these teams will probably compete:

CHN - Zheng / Yan
CHN - Sun / Li (Ting)
USA - V Williams / S Williams

But what other teams will there be? I think

FRA - Pierce / Golovin
FRA - Mauresmo / Bartoli
RUS - Kuznetsova / Petrova
RUS - Dementieva / Safina or Chakvetadze / Vesnina
ITA - Schiavone / Vinci
USA - King / Jackson / Perry

Sun/Li need to have a strong 2007 :help: 3 minor titles this year was not that impressive :tears: I hope they aren't having any more arguments?

I hope Fran and Flavia will team up - they would be in with a really good shot of a medal.

If Flipper wants to play in the Olympics, Justine might partner her. Don't know how interested she is, though.

Are Myskina/Zvonareva a possibility? They've played together before and both are good doubles players.

Nov 20th, 2006, 07:51 PM
What about Lisa and Meghann for the US? They are USA's top doubles players, after all.

Czech Republic: probably Benesova/Strycova

Maybe Shultz-McCarthy can lure Kraijeck into the doubles draw for the Netherlands?

Peschke and Vaidisova for the Czech Republic? - although I think the question is whether or not Nicole would lower herself to playing doubles, I saw her play in HK last year with Davenport, and you could tell she was so not into it, despite having a world class partner.

Can Hingis and Schnyder put aside their differences and play for Switzerland? If anyone could usurp the Chinese pairs in Beijing, it would be them

Dominguez-Lino and Llagostera Vives for Spain?

Peer and Smashnova for Israel?

The Radwanska sisters for Poland (by then they should both be top 20)

Anybody know why there is no mixed doubles at the Olympics?? Now THAT would pull in the crowds! Imagine Hingis & Federer, Grosjean & Mauresmo, Rochus & Henin-Hardenne, Safin & Safina, Davydenko & Dementieva, Roddick & Serena....

What differences? I though they practiced together during the off-season and got on pretty well?
Anyway, yes, they would make a great doubles team!

Kim already turned down her Beijing so JuJu will have to pair with someone else.

Momo/Tati :worship:

For Russia I would love to see Petrova/Anna C. play together :hearts:

Argentina: Dulko/Suarez?

Paola won't be playing anymore by then :sobbing:

Maybe Dulko/Salerni, if María Emilia can stop sucking and get her doubles ranking back up

You can bring differents players for Doubles and Singles.

In 2004, Prusova played only Doubles.

Czechs will bring a mix of Beneosva Peschke and Strycova

Well, what's the point? We all know they'll face each other in the final :tape:

Come on now, we're bored, the season is over and it won't start again until 2 months have gone by. And remember, most of us don't have a life.

well that is because she was injured ... you know, the chances are that either V or S will be injured in 2008 too and they won't be able to "defend" ... but does that mean they are the Olympic champs until they defend and lose? I don't think so :p

Tulyaganova has recently always been doubling with her compatior AKgul Amamnuradova, so I guess they'll compete and not Iroda and Varvara Lepchenko... :)

Stosur & Stubbs would make a good doubles team :) hope both of them keep up their doubles form & stay in the top 5 especially sam at no.1.

Sammy & Alicia would make a good doubles pair as well i reckon :)

Canada: Dubois/Wozniak

If tehy continue to improve thier ranking, they played together at the 2006 Cup Rogers... but lost 6/3 6/1 to Bartoli/Peer who made the SF.

Nakamura/Morigami is nice, though :)
Maybe Sugiyama/Morita :) ? They played in Birmingham this year right? And by 2008 Ayumi should certainly be more established. That would be an exciting team for Japan and for fans. :bounce:
As for Taiwan,without surprise it may be Yung-Jan Chan/Chia-Jung Chuang and Chin-Wei Chan/Su-Wei Hsieh I suppose. ;)

I do agree with Joachim1978. In 2008 Radwanska sisters should be much stronger than Jans/Rosolska duet for the Polish Olympic Team

Peer is good enough a player, ,Smashnova never played doubles well (even though honestly she never partnered with anyone worthy too) but perhaps as some sort of goodbye they might start off competing.

Many people thought Paola left the game last year.
She's playing now. It's only a year and a half away.
If her body is feeling up to it, then she might.

It will definately be interesting for American doubles.
There always seems to be a place for Venus & Serena.
Lisa Raymond seems to have done enough in the last two years to secure herself a spot.
Meghann is the next highest ranked doubles player BUT she definately isn't a good match for Lisa.
I think Vania would be a good matchup for Lisa.
Lisa prefers to be the veteran.
Lisa should give Meghann a chance at the end of 2007, just to see if she fits.
If not then I would go with Vania King.

Yeap, pretty sure. She's made herself clear, 2007 will be her last year on the Tour.

But we don't know if she's gonna change her mind  I mean, it was she who convinced Pato Tarabini of delaying her retirement one more year so she could play the Olympics.

Although I have the feeling she doesn't really care that much since she won the bronze medal in Athens. I guess she thinks she's achieved enough.
