If Nadia and Sveta stay healthy, they definately are in the mix.

If Nadia Petrova becomes no. 1 without winning a slam, I stop watching women's tennis.

I think the big threats for no.1 next season have to be Sharapova, Clijsters, Petrova.. ALl the are awesome and hopefully will b hungry for it.. imagine clijsters retiring as YE. no 1

If Nadia Petrova becomes no. 1 without winning a slam, I stop watching women's tennis.Nadia was on her way to reaching #1 without getting to a slam final this year, then she got injured.

You obviously care about it that much if you're so bothered by a bunch of numbers. :)

if petrova wins that many titles to become #no1 without slam, then she deserves it . #no1 is about consistency. whoever finishes #no1 deserve it, because it means they are the best player throughout the year, not just one part of it.

There might be a "first time ever" #1 in a couple of years (2009), but I think the #1 spot will be exchanged between Masha and Henin for 2007.

Nope, there won't be one...

2007 - Justine (Maria is 2nd)
2008 - Maria (Justine is 2nd)
2009 - Most likely between Justine, Maria and Serena

Well, at least it's not that predictable as the ATP....

2007 to 2010 - Roger Federer (obviously) :help:

Sveta or Nadia might have a chance. but i don't think that there will be any new No.1's for 2007 i'm afraid.

Sveta will make the first run at it in 2007.
She is ranked 4th, with less points to defend before Miami than the top 3.
So Sveta needs a big start.

In the summer, it could be Nadia's time.

It will depend on how healthy the top 3 are.
A healthy Justine or Maria will be tough to pass.

hoping that serena has something to say in that department

With the new ranking system, the big tournaments matter more right?

In that case, you have to give the edge to players like Henin, and the chances of Sveta/Nadia are lowered.

If Nadia and Sveta stay healthy, they are good compilers.
And they play a lot of toiunaments.
