For me, Olga Savchuks 3rd Round at Australian Open and then Antwerp Quarter finals.

What about you?

Well, now that Hasselt has disappeared, I'm afraid that Caroline Maes will have a hard time collecting the amount of points she earned there this year. Hopefully, she'll amass those points at other tournaments.

None really for Nicole.

Maybe her Stasbourg and RG run, but she should make up for that post AO since she didnt play much then last year.

I think I am probably most worried about her Sydney-A0-Tokyo points since so many players are hovering around 10 and have no points to defend at this time.

However she should be able to make those up with better results in other tournaments where she didn't fair as well...especially the slams :)

LenaD's win in Tokyo and Final in Indian wells but i think she will gather a good few points in Aus before than anyway :D
For Venus Well the only place were she has anything to defend is the clay court season with 2 quater finals and a semi, something that if she plays i think can can defend comfortably enough

once the player starts to worry about defending pts, thats when trouble sets in.

Jim Courier: "if you gonna worry about defending pts, its best not to get them in the 1st place".

this year I worried about ALG's points from Peking and Luxembourg, and my worst fear came true :o
now it's diffenrent, my expectations aren't that high, well she has no points to defend until acapulco/Indian Wells, if she gets her head together she can gain some points before at other tournys, so that she doesn't fall too much in the rankings :tape:
also Charleston-SF, and FO-QF, lets see, I think pretty much depends on the draws

I hope you all realise that it makes zero difference how many points players have to "defend" regarding the year-end ranking of 2007.

They should just give the girl a wildcard for Antwerp .. she damn well deserved it! :worship:

That at the end of 2007, no player will still have points from 2006 on his ranking.
So regarding the year-end ranking of 2007, everyone's at zero now and has the same chances.

I'm worried about Daniela defending her 4R points at the slams and now Zurich. :o
But other than that, she doesn't have much! :hearts:

And Nicole, well for sure Roland Garros! :scared:
Nicole really needs to do well in January and February because she has a good amount to defend and there is a few players right behind her!

Wimbledon QF for Myskina. :help:

My other faves don't have much of anything to defend! :yippee:

Nicole should just improve from last year and not really have much problem defending points. Her RG run was no fluke, she will perform well again there in 2007.

yes that's true.
but don't you rate the affect intra-year variations have on seeding or ability to enter main draws etc?

personally i think that a player shouldn't worry about defending more than trying to improve on last year's performance.

I don't think any player actually does - except they like to defend titles they won. I think players do just try to improve and play the best they can. If they improve - they know they will end up higher in the rankings. Simple as that. I don't think they spend a lot of time on that spurious "points dropped" concept.

It's only fans who seem unable to understand that the points you drop simply determines whether your ranking will be better or worse than before and not what your ranking actually is.
