View Full Version : Most Annoying Haters 2006

Who are the most annoying Group of Haters on the WTA board in 2006?

Maria Haters: A tenacious group who seem to devote their whole lives to their obsession. Forever starting new threads about how ugly she is, what a cheater she is, how all her wins are flukes, how all her relatives are evil, and then posting in every other thread with even the slightest sort of connection with the object of their hate/desire. Some spend hours thinking of new ways to post anti-Maria material. An incredibly dedicated group.

Justine Haters: Known for the intensity of their feelings, some will devote days to one thread, posting repetitively, and conctantly bringing up tiny incidents lost in the mists of time. Unable to attack Justine on her tennis skills, haters tend to attack her sportsmanship- single-mindedness.

Serena Haters: Seen less often on the boards now that Serena is no longer at the very top. At their worst, Serena haters are personnally vicious, accusing their nexus of ugliness, brutality and ruining the game of tennis with raw power play. Criticisms of her sportsmanship, many injuries, and commitment to the sport are common.

Amelie Haters: Not as dedicated as those of the three above, but can be vicious when roused. Amelie haters tend to emerge when the French star approaches Number One ranking. Her success is seen by haters as unearned. The chief criticism is of Amelie's temperament, allusions to her gayness, and also of her perceived tendency to fall apart under pressure. "Unworthy" is a word often used.

Venus Haters: A dying breed. Few have much to say against Venus these days, although allusions to her haughtiness were once very prominent.

Nicole Haters: A new breed. Rarely has one so lowly ranked acquired haters so quickly. Nicole haters are not shy about calling their girl every name under the sun. A snake is shown biting Nicole, and posters queue up to worry about the health of the snake. A tendency to a bad attitude on court is cited as an excuse for this.

Hingis Haters: An old and dedicated fraternity. Arrogant-sounding remarks, and elements of her personal lifestyle are seen as the key targets to focus on, as was her inabi9lity to cope with power tennis. Not as big a group of haters as once existed, but more may come out of retirement if her come-back progresses.

Seemingly proving the success=haters theory, Mauresmo suddenly sky rocketed after winning a couple of slams.

Yes winning has alot to do with bringing out the haters from the woodwork. But one top player seems to avoid the hating all the time as she is one of the most well liked on the tour. Kim Clijsters

Actually I've read an interview(will search for the link), where she was asked why she's carrying her dad to every match, and she said that it would feel kinda insecure without him nearby, but will eventually drop him as she grow older. (well, can't remember the exact words).
Still, people have developped a dictator image about him, most likely because of his temperament (trowing hat, colleric gestures etc.)
But hating someone just because of her father seems unfair.
Most of Maria's haters are the "I fell pretty" folks.

Nicole doesn't have that many devoted haters, I think.

But she does have relatively few fans, and is disliked by most of WTAW.

The polarizing figure in tennis right now is Maria - WTAW is split between Maria fans and Maria haters. It's Nicole's misfortune that she fills the requirements to be hated by both. The Maria haters dislike Nicole because they see her as Sharapova 2.0; the Maria fans dislike her because they see in her a potential rival for Maria in the future.

You know Helen, hate is always irrational. Hating on people means that
you're stuck in a emotion that has taken control over you. It is totaly
(self) destructive, as much to the hater as to the subject of his/her
hatred and malice.
As a hater you may think that you're winning, because your ultimate purpose
is to hurt and cause pain; and you do, (not refering to you Helen), so it's
working briefly; but in the long run, hate is nothing more than the exposure
of your own inability to deal with emotions in a more mature and constructive
way.

So, when I see all the bashing going on - especially towards M. Sharapova
and JHH, [not so] coincidently considered the two players to be the biggest
threats to the rest of the tour -, I feel sorry for the haters.
Because there really isn't the slightest of a direct and rational connection
between their verbal aggression and the behaviour/actions of their chosen
victims.

In short, I believe that hate is a sign of weakness. Haters and bashers of
tennisplayers IMO, are only showing the world how trapped they are in
their own shortcomings and delusions. Nothing to feel proud about.
There are many other and much more constructive ways to deal with
unpleasant emotions; although I do realize that its succes depends for
a great deal on one's own personal level of maturity, honesty and willingness.

As a Maria fan, I might be biased, but I would have to say the Maria haters. Some of these people are amazingly persistent and vocal, and never stop no matter how many times you show that they are not even making correct accusations. I think their motto is "nothing is too irrational or trivial".

However, I also have to recognize the champion of the past, the Serena Haters. They have left somewhat since she isnt currently near the top, but back when she was I think they set the records for viciousness.

As for Nicole, I cant see how anyone wouldnt think the snake pictures were funny. I dont dislike Nicole, but realistically you cant expect me to hype her as the next #1 based on her accomplishments. This brings up another point. Are factual statements hate? Is it hate to say that Nicole has never won a tier2?

If a poster repeats a "factual statment" constantly, particularly when it has no relevance to the discussion at hand, I think yeah, it can reach the level of "haterade"

And I know this is no consolation, but as much as Maria does get hated on, I don't think she gets it as bad as Venus, Serena, Hingis and Justine have at one point or another.

Nicole is actually overrated even by those who dislike her.

But about her popularity (or lack of it) in WTAW, what I meant to say was that she has few devoted fans, and among those who are neither fans nor haters "mildly hostile" prevails over "indifferent".
