I don't know why people think so easy about King. King is better than her ranking. Not that I believe that Ana will be exit in round 1. Common that has never and will never happen on a grandslam tournament.
Last year was bad enough already.
After the last 2 weeks I don't have much faith in a good result. She has to change a lot and that won't happen in a few weeks. So even with a good result now, there's still much of work.
I just hope for the best.

This doesn't mean much, King was crap. As far as I'm concerned this was just a workout for Ana and the real thing starts in the 2R against (most likely) Radwanska.
Still, it's a good thing that her serve actually held up for the whole second set.

ANA IVANOVIC

THE MODERATOR: Questions, please.

Q. I think you will agree, you didn't quite play your best today.

ANA IVANOVIC: It was tough conditions again. This morning when I practiced, it was pretty cool. When I went out there, it decided to be really warm. The balls were flying. It was much quicker.

She's a very good player. I mean, she's young, upcoming. She has not much pressure. So I think she played very well match today.

But I'm really pleased that I took the opportunities I had and could win this match.

Q. At some stages you couldn't hit the ball.

ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah, it's tough. Not every match you play great. But it's important to play good enough to win. So I'm really pleased that I went through this match.

Q. Was it hot there today?

ANA IVANOVIC: Yes, it was pretty hot. Probably not like the other day, but still it was tough conditions.

Q. Do you think it's going to be a great year for Serbian tennis?

ANA IVANOVIC: I think so. There are many players coming up, playing very good at the moment. Jelena is playing better, Djokovic, at this point Tipsarevic.

I think Serbian tennis, it's becoming much better. I think it's very excited for all of us, and also for young kids back home. I hope that's motivation for them.

Q. I know you knew Novak when you were young. How much do you see him now?

ANA IVANOVIC: It's very tough because we have different tournaments. Only Grand Slams and couple of others are mixed. We don't see each other around too much. But it's always nice to keep in touch. When we see each other, to catch up.

Q. Has he always been a big talker, somebody who enjoys talking?

ANA IVANOVIC: Yeah. I like being social and talking to people.

Q. How much time do you spend in Serbia every year?

ANA IVANOVIC: Unfortunately not very much. Probably, yeah, every two months I go there for a couple of days. It's hard. I miss going back there.

But still, I mean, I enjoy traveling, enjoy what I'm doing. I think it's balance.

Q. Maybe a month or so a year you're there?

ANA IVANOVIC: Probably, yes. Around a month, two months. Depends.

Nice win for Ana, BUT now it comes. Again 2 rounds played with 2 "easy" opponents. Now there's that 3rd round again. Montreal was the last tournament that she won 3 matches in a row. Zvonareva is gonna be a real test now. Number 24 in the world, player pretty good at the moment. Reach already the final in Auckland which she almost won.

Her first set was terrific, hitting plenty of winners however her second set was awful. She had far, far too many unforced errors, including a return of serve that went into the crowd. No doubt her third set was an improvement but she will have to play a lot better if she is to make it to the 4th Round.

I do see improvements in her game though. She gets down lower to hit her shots, especially the backhand and it is a much improved shot. Her movement is on the up and I think she's fitter than ever.

I'll post pics later.

Okay just got back from the Aus open and I thought I might share my ana review from the AO with you guys first.

Her game at the moment doesn't seem to be improving in all honesty, she STILL doesn't have the movement and makes wayyy to many unforced errors. She played only maybe 60% of her potential against Vania King and won, that much is enough to beat the players in the TOP 100 but not enough in the Top 10. Her game is simply too flawed at the moment. She could also do with variety.

Her game against radwanska was better, more winners, still some UE but better despite the fact that she lost a set....Radwanska stepped it up and I must admit (for you Polish supporters ;) ) Radwanska is a real talent, I was impressed. Her shots are clean and powerful for a small girl.

Okay enough pessimism..I wish her all the best next round but she will need something special against higher ranked players...

Here are some pics I took:

All she needs is some consistency and a good gameplan. She has all the tools. There were SOME blasting FH winners, there were SOME good BHs, there were SOME good volleys, there were SOME good returns, there were SOME good serves. It's just a matter of making it 9/10 instead of 1/10 like today.

I expected her to beat Zvonareva yes, but look at the scoreboard. She was completely destroyed, and obviously has a long way to go. She was pretty good in the 2nd Round but really should have won in straight sets. Instead the match went to a third and she made a ton of errors in the process. She just can’t string many good performances together, one good game followed by an average won. Therefore I am not expecting much from her for a little while yet. She has all the tools to be great, it will just take more time.

Yes it will take more time. So unfortunately I think we will see more dissapoinments this year. But ALSO good results. She showed in Montreal that she can play good tennis for a week. Being inconsistent is a well known term for young players.
One day these players has learned enough and are more experienced. Then the results will come.
Let's hope that Ana's future will be like that.

I don't think that was the factor. Ana is just so unpredictable. She just needs to be in the groove and bang all goes her way. This result should do wonders for her confidence... But I hope she is not overconfident... As I can assume she was after Montreal.

I must admit that’s what concerns me. Will Ana ever find consistency that enables her to be a threat in every tournament she enters? Or will she be the kind of player that has a great tournament, followed up by a few mediocre tournaments because she isn’t “on”? You know what I mean? I just hope she can become a more consistent player and that she’s in the groove more often that not.

I really hope she does find this consistency. She needs 2-3 GOOD tournaments in a row. For the time being we have to be happy for what we get... And hopefully we get 3rd title tomorrow! ;)

Yeah we'll see how it goes in the next tournaments.
Normally I only see 0, 1 matches of Ana cause of tv coverage.
I'm going to Antwerpen to see it all!!!

Serious? So lucky! :p Have fun and take lots of pics!

Well said Dexter. I don’t want 1 good tournament here and another there, I want consistent results. Lets hope this happens after Tokyo.

Well a great tournament (Tokyo) followed by a very mediocre one (Antwerp), pretty much the story of her career to this point. Any signs to suggest that things will change or is this what we’ll have to endure over the course of her career?

I wouldn't say that. It's right that she didn't play a good match this week.
Movement is still not good enough and when she doesn't serve well also then you can't expect great things.
