Australia has it great. They have all these dinkfests with no prizemoney, and they get good fields because there is a major in Australia in January.

But lots of my favorites signed up :yeah:.

Sydney is a Tier 2! GC is a Tier 3... then there's only Hobart which is a $170k Tier 4 this year (ie only $5k off a Tier 3 status).

And what, you think Australia doesn't deserve to see 3-4 good weeks of tennis in a year?

this coming year is gonna be my third year going. it is a well set up torunament, but rather small with only 3 courts. going in the 1st couple of days is the best becoz they play on the outside courts where you are within CM of the players!!
the centre court is rather stuffy and crampped and OH SO HOT but it is worth it :)

Beat me to it... We get a little over a month of tennis a year. And it's not like in Europe or America where you can just travel an hour or so to another country to attend a tournament.

I'll gladly swap our Australian summer for the European clay and grass seasons, or the American hardcourt seasons.

I read Doha wanted to have a big money tournament before the AO and TA stopped it.

That costs players money. They are not all millionaires.

As I just said: SYDNEY IS A TIER 2...where most of the top players play! Doha has a big tournament AFTER the Aus Open anyway, and who do you think would get into such a draw anyway? Top plays who are all millionairres anyway! We have a total of FOUR tournaments in Australia
9one being Aussie Open) for the women (plus Hopman Cup - with only 8 teams)...so give it a rest!

Sydney should pay Tier I money. It has a better field than Tokyo and Zurich every year.
If there weren't so many good Russians, it would have a much better field than Moscow also.

They are robbing the players in Australia.
The WTA has to make this an A tournament.
Pay serious money in Sydney, or don't expect good players.

So should New Haven also pay Tier 1 money because it has a much better field than the Canadian Open. Sydney is a joint mens and women's... if the players didn't like the tourney, they won't play there. It's not Australia's fault that the players don't wanna play Tokyo (well who the hell puts a Tier 1 the week after a GS anyway - it's dumb!) and zurich... although Zurich usually has pretty good fields.

WTA doesn't HAVE to make it anything... it depends what money the tourney will put up...and the players will still play because it's the week before a GS - same with New Haven!

The Tier II is going to end. It's only A or B.
So the WTA will have some say in what happens.
But I don't know what is going to happen.
I hope Doha has an A tournament in January in this roadmap.

I KNOW that the Tier system is gonna end. WTA doesn't have a say unless they are putting up the money for tourneys (they ain't). Tourneys have to "buy" their A or B status - that was in some other article posted here a week or so ago. So it's up to Sydney to come up with the money.

And does that mean you want Doha to have 2 tourneys a year then? Coz as I said before, they have one along with Dubai at the end of Feb.

And I see you didn't say anything about New Haven then.
