Venus Williams, James Blake and Andy Roddick have committed to play in the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships tennis tournament, which will be held from Feb. 16-25 next year.

Williams will also participate in a special fund raising event for the National Civil Rights Museum being held during the tournament. Williams is scheduled to play the first match Feb. 19, while Roddick will play the first match Feb. 20. Defending Champ Tommy Haas will return to defend his title as well.

Beverly Robertson, president of the National Civil Rights Museum, said Williams' contributions to tennis make her a perfect fit for the Museum's fundraiser.

"We are delighted she feels compelled to leave her legacy here through fundraising efforts," Robertson said.

I think this shows that Vee and Ree are serious about tennis. Serena's playing a Tier IV and Venus is playing a Tier III..hopefully they'll be back to full strenght soon.

Memphis is the only February event in America. :/ Unless Venus travels all over the world, this will be here only event. How can her ranking progress? She gave up on Antwerp. ;[

But on the bright side, I am very excited to hear this. The Williams Sisters are determined to get back to the top, starting small. They are not being arrogant and not playing warmups, etc. This is a great sign. I don't think we'll see good things at the Australian, but come the French and Wimbledon, Venus and Serena will be back. ;]

If Venus really wants to solve the problem of pay inequity, Memphis would be a great place to start. If Roddick and Blake don't have to go under the table to pick up their appearance fees, why should she?

If only the rest of this forum could understand this! :bounce:

Again she's changing her schedule and a change of pace works for Venus at this point in her career.

Actually Memphis has a Sunday start to the main draw, so qualifying wont even be going on Monday.
