I mean only 4 teams and single elimination :o... That's terrible in my opinion! The Masters Cup is so much more interesting the the WTA Championships in the aspect...
Should the WTA do like the ATP and have 8 doubles team at the YEC?FLL Nov 15th, 2006, 10:05 PM I mean only 4 teams and single elimination :o... That's terrible in my opinion! ToeTag Nov 15th, 2006, 10:15 PM They used to have 8 teams when the tournament had 16 singles players...and, yes, they should go back to it. 16 singles, and 8 doubles. Buitenzorg Nov 15th, 2006, 10:24 PM I agreed ;) 8 BEST SINGLE & DOUBLES for WTA YEC :) FLL Nov 15th, 2006, 10:39 PM I like the 8 singles and 8 doubles team divided in groups format just like the ATP... Tennace Nov 16th, 2006, 01:14 AM 8 doubles for sure. There are so many doubles teams that compete throughout the year and to only have the 4 best play in the YEC is crazy. 8 would bring more fans in too. Fans like doubles, more excitement sometimes I guess. AJZ. Nov 16th, 2006, 01:43 AM To put it short: Yes. And it's not because Hantuyama finished fifth  It's just boring to have three matches, no ambiance, it seems rather random. The ATP format is more interesting; look at last year, it was the sixth seed that won it (Santoro/Llodra, wasn't it?) And it's just so much more exciting :) new-york Nov 16th, 2006, 01:49 AM definitely. the YEAR END CHAMPIONSHIP consisting in three matches looks a lil ridiculous. AJZ. Nov 16th, 2006, 01:49 AM I just heard they're going to test no-ad scoring and third-set ten-point tiebreaker on the WTA Tour in 2007 :sobbing: rockstar Nov 16th, 2006, 02:46 AM yes, cos with the 4 teams systeam only the hardcore teams qualify XaDavK_Kapri Nov 16th, 2006, 03:54 AM Definitely. The WTA should be ashamed. It's such a total lack of respect to the doubles game. I can't seem to stop being disgusted every year. I might be overreacting, but I really think it's a lack of respect. The ATP doesn't have a problem fitting the two tournaments in one week. Derek. Nov 16th, 2006, 04:09 AM Yes. Three matches as the whole YEC is weird. :o Plus Danka would have made it this year then. southpaw58 Nov 16th, 2006, 04:12 AM Yes!!! Modiac. Nov 16th, 2006, 05:10 AM Obviously WTA doesn't care doubles match at all. They even didn't use male model to be ballboy in Madrid. Ben. Nov 16th, 2006, 05:15 AM Top 8 Doubles Teams rather than four in round robin format is definitely better as the crowd get 2 see plenty of doubles matches & the competitors get more opportunities 2 make an impact rather than be eliminated straight away. Doubles isn't being exposed enough more with the way WTA run along with their format of only 4 teams with elimination at the YEC doubles. Sad really i have 2 say. Ben. Nov 16th, 2006, 05:18 AM oops, my bad i accidently tripled post. stupid posting button. WhatTheDeuce Nov 16th, 2006, 05:34 AM Yeah, 8 doubles teams sounds much more reasonable than 4. Caz Nov 16th, 2006, 06:06 AM Yes, the old format of 16 singles players and 8 doubles teams was soooooo much better. Still, since I don't like round robin tennis and am more interested in doubles than singles anyway, these days, at least I don't feel that I've missed anything by only being able to go for the final weekend. ;) jazar Nov 16th, 2006, 06:56 AM yeah 8 doubles teams is much better. schavone and peschke and the chinese girls worked hard to get to madrid and then they only play like 1 match. that a bit of a rip. with 8 pairs they can have a round robin and they have a better chance of doing well. SARA-GOAT Nov 16th, 2006, 11:58 AM 8 teams is definitely better. Nicolás89 Nov 16th, 2006, 12:21 PM yea it should be a draw with 8 teams like the old format, 4 teams are so:help: crazillo Nov 16th, 2006, 01:03 PM oops, my bad i accidently tripled post. stupid posting button. Actually you have four posts now. I think so as well. There would be a lot more excitement in groups. Doubles should have 8 teams with RR and singles 16 players with four RR groups. But then you woul need two courts minimum and couldn't televise everything... kadirelf Nov 16th, 2006, 01:12 PM 2007 YEC Doubles Final Venus / Serena Def Hingis / Kournikova 7-5 7-5 -sugi- Nov 16th, 2006, 03:48 PM I think so :D It would be a good idea Benshka Nov 16th, 2006, 06:04 PM I agree too! With only 3 matches the doubles tournament is totally uninteresting... | |
