whats that for?

I don't know for sure but I think they have kind of bonus pool to distribute "additional" money between selected players depending on their exempt status and number of tournaments appearances. Though I may be wrong...

Justine and Hingis were the only top players that didn't get anything!

Nov 14th, 2006, 01:07 AM
where did you get this from? is it confidential from WTA

I guess this is how the bonus pool was split among the gold / silver exempt players ... elena and nadia got the most because they played the most :help:

martina didn't get nothin' cause she isn't on the 2006 gold exempt list

Excluding Hingis and Justine from this list does not make it "credible" at all:( Not long ago Martina's earning's so far this year were quoted in a Swiss paper as 1 million from prize earnings, 2 million for appearance fees and 10 million from sponsors! I dare say Justine's prize earnings were double Martina's but the sponsorship money much less. But these two players should have been included on the list...so I don't think its a reliable source~:p

AnnaK, Please post where you got this information from? And what basis did they arrive at these figures for the various players? If you can't answer any of these questions....close this thread as bunk or junk! Bonus figures should go to Grand Slam winners...so you would think Mauresmo would lead the list with Justine and Maria next:confused: .

Ok, ok...
Maybe I messed up something but that's how I've figured out these digits.

WTA Tour published list with prize money won by all players this season.
It indicates how much money each player won in singles, in doubles, in mixed as well as total prize money won by each player.
If you look closely you can find a difference between sum of singles, doubles and mixed prize money and "total prize money" amount.

For example, Elena Dementieva won $1,158,169 in singles, $58,336 in doubles and $0 in mixed so her total earnings should be $1,216,505 while they indicated her total earnings at $1,429,005. I believe the difference is what we can describe as bonus.

Btw, in "Notes and Netcords" published after YEC 2004 they didn't hide "Bonus pool" column and the sums were much bigger than current ones:
Venus Williams - 647,000
Jennifer Capriati - 466,000
Serena Williams - 427,000
Lindsay Davenport - 233,334
Kim Clijsters - 183,750
Amelie Mauresmo - 175,834
Daniela Hantuchova - 163,000
Justine Henin-Hardenne - 145,250
Elena Dementieva - 138,168
Anastasia Myskina - 117,499

I thought the most a player could earn in bonus money this year was 500 000. And everytime a player pulled out of a big event they lost 25% of that. Hingis wasn't entitled to any money as she wasn't on the gold/silver list from last year.

This is how I've counted the sums:

Additional (a.k.a. bonus) prize money = Total prize money - Singles prize money - Doubles prize money - Mixed prize money

All data taken from official WTA Year-End prize money lists.
(Bonus prize money for 2004 can be found on "Notes and Netcords" Vol.28, Issue 40, page 10)

it is sad that Mary is not really on these lists

No, she earned some money (59,833 in 2004 and 42,000 in 2005). She is just not among the leaders.
