View Full Version : Speaking about "Fluke" and Alexandra Stevenson

There is so much talk about Stevenson on this forum so I desided to find out what she has achieved so far. I mean, I know she was in Top 20 in the end of 2002 and made it to the semis at Wimbledon but how has she performed at other Grand Slams?
And it was a big shock for me when I' ve found her Grand Slams record:

Grand Slams played - 21
WON - none
RU - none
SF - 1
QF - none
4r - none
3r - none
2r - 4
1r - 16
W-L record - 9-21

If I was Stevenson, I would have hated you for the rest of my life for putting this record here. I mean, I would have better seen my real age, real measurements and a "bad" day of the month published than the record like this.

I'd be curious to know when was the last time Alex won a main draw Slam match. It seems like years and years since she's made it past the first round in any Slam; those 4 trips to Round 2 must have been early on.

She's very talented i just watched her match in Sydney 02 were she beat Capriati in 3 sets and she had a great FH and a great serve, i think she's been unlucky with injury but also shes a bit too much of a diva, plus beating Capriati 3 times has got to mean something

That's a HORRIBLE record. I'm actually a little surprised, I didn't think it would be quite that bad...maybe a 4th round or 2, a couple of 3rd rounds, but nope. For once I'm happy I was wrong! I'm sure she's not a complete bitch or anything, but I always hated the way her mom and some members of the media were hyping her up....when clearly the talent/work ethic/desire wasn't there.

Beating Garbin and Kuti Kis on grass is really something no one would brag about. Bacheva was a journeywoman and Baltacha never really reached her potential.

I really, really dislike this girl. All that talking would only be OK if it came along with decent results. It would even spice things up if she had some decent tennis to rely on.

Personally I still think she will win Wimbledon with record aces, receive the Nobel Peace Prize, be voted Woman of the Year, date a Hollywood actor after winning the Oscar, write a Booker prize-winning novel and then make a run for President.

I can't see why people are so pessimistic.

What I'll always remember is how Alexandra Stevenson said Martina Hingis thought she was very cool when she was really a dork. Hingis surprisingly, didn't respond with a catty comment. Instead, the next time they played in Miami 2001 (?), Hingis playing on one leg and in the midst of a MAJOR slump, thrashed her 6-2, 6-0 and lost something like 3 (?) points in the second set. Heh.

Stevenson made waves in 1999 as one of the "Princesses of Wimbledon" (strangely enough, all three of them are a complete mess at this point) but as her results continued to dip and no one was interested in listening to the trash talk anymore, the discussions died down as well.

I remember Hingis said that Stevenson had no talent except a serve, or something to that effect. Stevenson replied, "What, so she's a coach now?".

Hehe.

Alexandra Stevenson did actually have some talent. She had a world-class serve and brutal groundstrokes when they were on. Of course, this was very rare. But she could be brilliant on occasions.

To be honest, I always loathed Alexandra. She made Serena Williams look like some kind of humble, demure, self-deprecating, shrinking violet. I had her scowling at me in a match at Edgbaston once! I had simply asked for her autograph and made an only slightly clumsy comment, "I'm glad you're playing well this year, Alexandra," and she huffed and kept staring at me while she sprayed the ball all over the place against Myskina.

Talk about lack of focus. Maybe her whole career was my fault?

Wow talk about giving yourself credit. Now we all know why Alex's career is the way it was because of this person. On a side note, I would probably be pretty mad too if someone said that to me. Way to make a person feel guilty for not playing well. I mean i think she gets enough of that from the press without someone like you saying that, but yet ironically waiting for an autograph.

Well absolutely.

I still live in shame for making such a vituperative, malicious remark. She could have got me arrested, so I was lucky. There are laws against that sort of thing in this country. I just hope my parents never find out.
