ACTOR Belinda Emmett, wife of television personality Rove McManus, has died after a long battle with cancer.

She died at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, early this morning, with her husband by her side.

"It is with great sadness we advise that Belinda Emmett's battle with cancer has ended," Emmett's family said in a statement.

"Belinda passed away just after dawn this morning at St Vincent's Hospital in Sydney with her family and husband by her side.

"Those close to her have requested respect for their privacy at this time."

Emmett grew up on NSW's Central Coast and got her acting break when she appeared on popular long-running soap Home and Away, playing Rebecca Fisher, between 1996 and 1999.

She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1998 at the age of 24.

The actor successfully underwent surgery to remove a malignant tumour, followed by six weeks of radiotherapy.

In 2001, Emmett was diagnosed with secondary bone cancer.

Probably one of the nicest celebrities in Australia, and was so modest with her fight, not drawing too much attention to herself as a victim, unlike someone else.

But R.I.P , it was sad to hear this this morning :(

Now i know your not talking about Kylie. She is not in the situation to be silent in her fight as the reporters and all would never leave her alone. Totally different situation. She decided to be pro active with her situation. She is a fighter and to be admired. Anyways...i hope Belinda is resting well in heaven

Actually, it's not really that different a situation, as Belinda was a well known actress in Australia, thanks to Home and Away, and it was quite public at first with her breast cancer. This time though, it's a surprise, because there was absolutely nothing in the news. It's really sad that she's gone. Strength to her family and to Rove.

That said, Kylie was not in the media all that much either, as she was in France, and Kylie is not acting like a victim, and is only now speaking out alot more about her fight to hopefully help others, and of course she lived, and is going on with her life now, which includes touring. So she has to do interviews, and of course then she's gonna be asked about the cancer.

OMFG!!!!!!!   R.I.P Sweetheart.

Belinda was not just a soapie actor, her craft was well established and about to flourish after her first bout of cancer.

Massive congratulations as well to the Australian media for allowing Belinda, and her family, the time to see this through "normally".

I can't believe it and didn't even know the cancer had returned.

oh. well she has been out of the spotlight for a while. and it is a bit tiresome to tell the whole of Australia about Belinda's condition on a regular basis. I don't mean to disrespect Belinda at all, but the people that cared would already have known from other sources (magazines and such) and it isn't befitting to be on national news unless something drastic happened.... like what happened just then.....

I never said there was anything wrong with the way it was handled. Just that it was susprising that NOTHING at all was said, especially when they are now saying she had a stroke recently too.

I was just trying to stick up for Kylie and for Belinda because everyone is different, and people want things done differently. Obviously Belinda and her family didn't want it to be in the media, because if they had wanted it to be, it could have been, as she was married to Rove. ;)

Thank you...i don't know why that poster said that. Atleast i think he was talking about Kylie. I don't know whoelse he could have been talking about. :)
Your a bit correct about Kylie though. The press mostly put Kylie in the news at the begining. They were knocking down her parents door to the p int that they had to get guards. I was thinking that "poster" said what he said because Kylie has been in the press over the last week because of the relaunch of her SHOWGIRL TOUR. What better time to speak up and be pro active about her own fight with cancer. Next to Nicole she is Australias most beloved star and most successfull export. But ANYWAY...this thread is about Belinda... I give all my love to Belindas family...

Well...you just said somthing. I said nothing to disrespect Belinda. I was just sticking up for Kylie as she did nothing wrong to deserve a negative mention in someone elses morning thread. Kylies battle with cancer is far from over. They should have just kept that rude comment to themselves. I am going to end my participation in this thread out of respect to Belinda and her family. I wish you and the other poster would have done the same thing when it came to the negative comments. Everyone in this type of situation deserves atleast that amount of respect. :wavey:

I was expecting this cause I had some inside information a week or so ago. It's so, so sad. I loved her when she was in Home and Away. And she seemed like a lovely person. And she was so attractive too.

Very sad news indeed.

I could see this coming though, and I'm not as shocked as some of you. When her cancer returned in 2001 it was said that it would ultimately claim her life, and so I guess it's testament to her strength and determination that she has battled on for so long. If you saw pictures of her that were taken within the last few months, it was fairly clear that she wasn't looking to healthy, and was quite frail.

Just 32, and battling cancer for 8 years. That's one quarter of her life fighting a nasty disease. R.I.P
