Tom Cruise’s romantic gestures aren’t limited to couch jumping.

The “Top Gun” star reportedly shelled out $10,000 for a dinner with fiancée Katie Holmes. Cruise took the mother of his daughter to Mastro’s Steakhouse in Beverly Hills, according to In Touch Weekly, and to ensure their privacy, he paid 10 grand for a private dining room usually booked by groups of 15 or more.

The couple are “suffering from pre-wedding jitters” reports the mag, but the nerves are affecting them differently.

Holmes is said to have barely touched her grilled sea bass, but Cruise chowed down on a whopping porterhouse steak, a Caesar salad and three side dishes: wasabi mashed potatoes, French fries and onion rings — and he topped it all off with a dessert of cheesecake and chocolate-covered strawberries. The pair were celebrating not only their impending wedding, but also Cruise’s new gig at United Artists.

Looks like Holmes is developing pricey tastes. In addition to selecting a lavish Armani wedding gown, ITW also reports that the bride-to-be has selected the scent she’ll wear on her wedding day: Clive Christian No. 1, one of the most expensive perfumes in the world, which retails for $2,350 an ounce.

I read in one of the rags that she collapsed recently and has an eating disorder that she's hiding from Tom. Will she collapse coming down the aisle, or will Tom catch her purging at the reception?

Tom Cruise wedding

An old Italian medieval castle is believed to be the venue for the forthcoming wedding of Tom Cruise and his actress fiancee Katie Holmes. Dubbed TomKat by the European media, the couple are due to marry next week, amid worldwide media attention.

It has already been dubbed the wedding of the year and every Italian chat show, gossip column, and newspaper, is full of the speculation of where the Hollywood couple will marry. Tom Cruise and fiancee Katie Holmes are confirming nothing. But the media hunt for the secret venue appears to have settled on an old Roman villa on Lake Bracciano close to Rome.

In its time Castello Odescalchi has hosted popes and kings - but it's unlikely to have seen anything quite like this. The word is the celebration will span three days, with a warm up party on November 16th. The Catholic wedding will follow the next day with a final ritual on the 18th conducted by Scientology - the church founded by science fiction writer Ron Hubbard, of which Tom Cruise is a member.

The arrangements for the ceremony and the design of Katie Holmes' gown have been given to Giorgio Armani at an estimated cost of 2 million dollars. Even the towels in the bedrooms have been carefully selected. For 7,000 dollars they'll be made in the colours of the wedding day outfits and will carry the couple's initials. Of course the guest list will include some of the biggest names in Hollywood. One newspaper reported this week that 100 black limousines have been ordered for the occasion along with 300 bodyguards.

But Beckham, who is married to former SPICE GIRL VICTORIA BECKHAM, has been told he will have to remain in Spain.

Nicole Kidman Splashes Out On Tom Cruise Wedding Gift
To prove there's no hard feelings...

Nicole Kidman has given her blessing to her ex-husband Tom Cruise’s impending nuptials by buying him a crystal vase as a wedding gift.
The actress, who was married to the Top Gun star for a decade, splashed out $2,800 in a Baccarat vase at Los Angeles’ Neiman Marcus store last week.

Kidman gave the store a sealed congratulations card to go with the vase, and asked for both to be sent to Cruise’s home, according to In Touch magazine.

Cruise will wed Katie Holmes in Italy next month, whilst Kidman’s own four-month old remarriage to Keith Urban has hit trouble after the singer admitted himself to a rehab clinic earlier this month after suffering a relapse in his battle against drink and drugs.

Tom Cruise to wed in Rome castle

Despite denials, choice of Castello Odescalchi seems clear (ANSA) - Rome, November 7 - A picturesque medieval castle north of Rome is widely believed to be the secret location selected by Hollywood star Tom Cruise to wed his fiancée Katie Holmes later this month .

The 12th-century Castello Odescalchi, which overlooks Lake Bracciano, is a popular choice for VIP parties. It can host about 1,300 guests at a time and has its own private chapel .

The managers of the castle venue, which is owned by Princess Maria Pace Odescalchi, denied a press report that the long-awaited wedding was to take place there .

But the mayor of Bracciano, Patrizia Riccioni, revealed later that Princess Odescalchi has asked for the piazza in front of her castle to be closed to traffic on November 18, the day when Cruise and Holmes are to marry .

"This coincidence seems to be a pretty strong clue," she said. "Everything points to the Cruise-Holmes wedding taking place in Bracciano, where there will be a succession of international stars" .

There was no immediate word from the golden couple itself. Just where Cruise will wed his actress fiancée on November 18 has been showbiz's best-kept secret ever since the pair announced last month that they would be tying the knot somewhere in Italy. Two plush Italian lakeside villas, George Clooney's on Lake Como and a former Mussolini residence on Lake Garda, have both appeared in gossip mags. But on Tuesday Rome's Il Messaggero reported that the ceremony would be held at the Odescalchi castle, an atmospheric site which has hosted kings and a pope in its long history. In recent years Italian pop star Eros Ramazzotti and top CNN reporter Christiane Amanpour chose it for their weddings .

Il Messaggero said there would be a star-studded party at the castle on November 16, a Catholic wedding ceremony the next day and a final ritual on November 18 presided over by an official of Scientology, the religious sect to which Cruise belongs. Fabrizio D'Agostino, Rome representative for the Church of Scientology, said he had not been contacted by Cruise and Holmes. But he added that this might not be significant. "They don't have to contact me. They could choose whichever minister they want," he said. It was unclear how Cruise could be married in a Catholic ceremony when he has already been married twice .

ARMANI STYLE AT WEDDING. Italian weekly Chi confirmed Il Messaggero's version in a report of its own. It said the organisation of the three-day event was being handled by stylist Giorgio Armani, at a cost of 1.5 million euros. Armani is known to be providing Holmes' wedding gown and Cruise's suit .

Chi's report claimed that the couple were spending 5,000 euros on embroidered bedroom towels to be given to their guests in the castle. The towels will bear the bride and groom's initials and be coloured according to sex: men's towels matching Cruise's wedding suit and women's matching his bride's dress .

The event is certain to have a strong Italian flavour. As well as saying their vows on Italian soil and wearing Armani creations, the couple will reportedly be drinking Italian wine and giving each other rings made by an Italian jeweller. Roman gossip gurus think the actor will be turning to his favourite Italian restaurant, Dal Bolognese in Rome's Piazza del Popolo, to handle catering at the snazziest celebrity wedding in years. Cruise, 44, and Holmes, 27, have been together for about 18 months. In April this year Holmes gave birth to a baby girl, who they called Suri. It was in Rome that the actor, during a flying visit for the presentation of his film Mission Impossible III, told the world about his new enthusiasm for changing diapers .

No Catholic Wedding!

...a local priest has confirmed that the couple will not be given a Catholic ceremony as previously reported.

"There will be no Catholic wedding because Tom Cruise is a divorcee," Monsignor Nicola Fiorentini told ANSA.

Make-believe Wedding!

Could she get out from her enslaving enthrallment to Tom Cruise, after all?

Reports indicate the Katie Holmes' planned wedding next Saturday at the 15th-century Castello Odescalchi, in Bracciano, Italy, may never happen, or if allowed, cannot be legally binding. So say the town's mayor and priest.

Mayor Patrizia Riccioni tells Reuters she'd love a wedding, but the marriage would have make-believe legal status because the couple have not filed required documentation. And Monsignor Nicola Fiorentini won't marry the "Mission: Impossible'' movie star.

Why? "Cruise is divorced," the monsignor said. What's more, Cruise never even bothered applying for parish permission.

Of course, all of this is contingent on whether the Tinseltown duo do intend to marry at the Italian castle: They haven't divulged the location.

TomKat Wedding Guests: Plane Talk

The Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes wedding will be a little different than most. Expect a bride’s side, a groom’s side and a Scientologist’s side.

That’s because Cruise is planning to fly over all the big name celebrity Scientologists to his European (Paris or Rome — take your pick) wedding in a plane he’s chartered especially for them.

Sources tell me that Leah Remini, Kirstie Alley, Jenna Elfman, John Travolta, Kelly Preston, and Priscilla and Lisa Presley are all on the manifest.

Remini is among the few people in the world to have actually seen Cruise and Holmes’s baby daughter, Suri, in person and commented on her.
Indeed, only members of Cruise’s Scientology circle were offered to the press as those who’d seen Suri before her pictures appeared in Vanity Fair.

The plane is being booked by Cruise’s personal staff, and should leave Los Angeles several days before the Nov. 18 wedding in Italy (or France).
The guest list, insiders say, also includes all the top dogs at Scientology, including leader David Miscavige, Helio and Earthlink founder Sky Dayton, as well as Cruise’s best friend, Tom Davis, son of actress Anne Archer. Davis was Cruise’s constant companion in between Cruise’s Penelope Cruz and Katie Holmes chapters. He turned up unexpectedly at the premiere of "Collateral," where guests were surprised by his resemblance to the movie star.

The Presleys are likely guests at the wedding for another reason. Insiders are quick to point out that in 2000, Priscilla — an active Scientologist — was appointed to the board of directors at MGM, the company that owns United Artists and the place where Cruise has now found refuge after his very public embarrassment with Paramount.

Sharp-eyed observers will also be looking for members of the Feshbach clan, the controversial, Palo Alto-based investors who have donated millions to Scientology and run a couple of their centers. Daughter Jessica was Katie Holmes’ assigned watcher when the "Dawson’s Creek" actress first became involved with Cruise.

With all of Holmes’ close pals gone since that period — including former hometown best friend Meghann Birie and actress Rebecca Gayheart, among others — it should be interesting to see if Feshbach is the bride’s matron of honor.

A star-crossed wedding date seen for TomKat

BY BILL ZWECKER (bzwecker@suntimes.com) Sun-Times Columnist

Though Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes seemingly have locked in their wedding date as Nov. 18, a number of observers say that may not be their lucky day.

Prominent Chicago astrologer-to-the-stars Laurie Brady is among those advising against the couple tying the knot on that date -- reportedly at some secret locale in Italy. "Nov. 18 is a bad day," Brady said Tuesday after checking her charts -- matched against Cruise's July 3 birthday and Holmes', which falls on Dec. 18.

"[The planet] Mercury is in retrograde, which means that nothing works out as it's expected," Brady said. "It's just not a good time all the way around."

Beyond the poor timing of the couple's wedding, Brady restated her opinion -- based on her reading of the astrological signs -- that while Cruise and Holmes will welcome a second child shortly (sometime next year), she doesn't hold out much hope for this being a lasting union.

"While that second child will keep them together for a while, I predict they will be divorced by August 2011, less than five years from now," added Brady.
Of course in Hollywood terms, that's equivalent to being together for half a century!

Cruise, Katie and Suri go MAD!

LONDON: Baby Suri is on the cover of another magazine once again. This time around however, parents Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes may not be too happy, for MAD mag’s version offers morphed images of the family.

The magazine’s front page shot is a parody of the couple’s famous Vanity Fair cover that showed Cruise holding baby Suri snug in his jacket while mum Katie proudly looks on.

MAD’s cover shot however, has Suri’s faced morphed into the magazine’s icon Alfred E. Neuman, while a horrified Holmes looks on aghast.

This is not the first time that Mad creator Neuman’s face has morphed those of other famous people, for he’s also appeared in a host of other guises that includes Santa Claus, George Washington and King Kong.

Cruise and Holmes appeared on the cover of Vanity Fair in September this year, putting an end to rumours that their daughter did not really exist.

And even as the issue gets set to hit stands soon, Cruise and Holmes are getting set to tie the knot in a Catholic and Scientology ceremony in Rome this month.

Today's news (Monday, Nov 13)

- Cruise flew into a Rome airport on a private jet, arriving Mondayat 11:30 AM local time. The arrival set off a frenzy among media and fans anticipating the star's high-profile wedding to Katie Holmes.

- Cruise arrived at Rome's small Ciampino airport from Los Angeles with about 10 people, including his mother and his three children, airport officials said. (Cruise's children are: Isabella and Connor, Cruise's adopted children with Nicole Kidman, and Suri Cruise, his daughter with wife-to-be, Katie Holmes.)

- Cruise and his 10-person entourage were then driven to their hotel, complete with a police escort.

- Some 100 fans mingled with photographers and camera crews in front of the Hotel Hassler Roma, the luxury hotel in Rome on top of the Spanish Steps where Cruise was said to be staying. An employee at the hotel's front desk, who refused to give her name, denied that Cruise was staying there.

- The wedding is Saturday.

- Guests will number in the hundreds.

- Before the wedding, Cruise and Holmes will throw a lavish party for the 250 guests at Dal Bolognese in Piazza del Popolo

- Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli will perform at the wedding. The blind opera star has confirmed to friends he will attend and sing at the event. A friend of Bocelli says: "They asked him to sing because Katie particularly likes Ave Maria. It will give the ceremony a Catholic religious element, which is important to her."

- Katie Holmes' wedding dress, Tom Cruises' tuxedo, as well as the bridesmaids' dresses and groomsmen's tuxedos, are all going to be Giorgio Armani originals. Holmes' Giorgio Armani-designed gown is "floaty," according to the New York Daily News.

- The jewelry for the wedding of the year will be provided by David Orgel.

- As for Katie's hair, her go-to man Oscar Blandi will give her a perfect side-swept look.

- Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes insist their Italian wedding next weekend will be legal, despite claims from local officials to the contrary. Monsignor NICOLA FIORENTINI alleged the couple could not enjoy a Catholic service at Bracciano's Castello Odescalchi, because Scientologist Cruise is divorced. Mayor PATRIZIA RICCIONI also ruled out a civil service because the pair have not provided the official documentation needed. But their representative insists the couple have found a way through the bureaucracy. ARNOLD ROBINSON tells the New York Daily News, "All of the proper and necessary arrangements are being made to assure the legality of the marriage."

- According to the star-watchers at AOL Horoscopes (http://horoscopes.aol.com/astrology/katie-holmes-tom-cruise-wedding), the TomKat marriage is destined to be an impossible mission if the ceremony is scheduled between 6:41 AM and 3:46 PM, to be precise. That's when the Moon will be what's known as "Void-of-Course" in Libra at 6:41 AM, and then will not enter Scorpio until 3:46 PM, meaning that nothing good can come out of anything if it happens during that time. Later in the day, the news isn't much better; the Moon in Scorpio can dredge up a lot of dark, ugly emotions. :scared:

What is a Scientology Wedding like?

When Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes tie the knot, they'll almost certainly do it in a half-hour Scientology service befitting "the second of the eight dynamics of existence" as postulated by sci-fi writer and church founder L. Ron Hubbard.

If you're among the invited, you'll hear the following invocation:

"Rejoice you line of struggling life from eons gone, for here again, your track is sped and winged into a future fate by this, the union of a man and woman, crossing this bridge, whose child shall pace a future span."

"The protocol is like any traditional wedding - with the father of the bride and the traditional seating of the family," says Rev. John Carmichael, president of the Church of Scientology of New York.

The bride may wear white - but there's no specific urging that she remain a virgin till her wedding day, as Holmes, a former Catholic schoolgirl, famously had vowed to do.

"We do not try to dictate the personal lives of our members," Carmichael tells The Post.

After their vows, the couple may exchange rings embossed with Scientology's ARC triangle, which stands for Affinity Reality Communication, says Rev. James Newell, a Scientology minister from Clearwater, Fla.

There are five different wedding ceremonies to choose from: The book contains five versions of the wedding ceremony: Traditional, Informal, Single Ring, Double Ring, and Concise Double Ring.

The Traditional ceremony uses stilted language.
The groom is always referred to as a "man", while the bride is referred to in several places as a "girl".
Contains the text "girls need clothes and food and tender happiness and frills ... perhaps a cat."

Double Ring:

The Double Ring ceremony mentions the ARC Triangle (http://www.scientology.org/en_US/religion/presentation/pg010.html). This is a basic concept in Scientology. ARC stands for Affinity, Reality, and Communication. One of the most common Scientology symbols (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symbols_of_Scientology) is two triangles entwined with an "S". One of these is the ARC triangle. (The other is the KRC triangle, which stands for Knowledge, Responsibilty, and Control; it has a much less prominent role in Scientology dogma.)
The big spiritual advice offered to the newlyweds in the Double Ring ceremony is, basically, "never go to bed angry".
The Double Ring ceremony ends by asking the audience to "postulate" that the marriage will strengthen over time. This is another Scientology concept: to "postulate" is sort of like making a wish, except it's done with conviction and forcefulness rather than supplication and hopefulness. It's actually a good illustration of the essence of the Scientology belief system, which is that if we are sufficiently spiritually developed, we can affect the world by the mere force of our will.

All the ceremonies are phrased in terms of a "man" marrying a "girl" or "woman"; there is no provision for same-sex marriage. Although Scientology claims not to discriminate against gays (despite Hubbard's repeated, blatant homophobic pronouncements), there has never been a report of a gay Scientology wedding, and no Church official has ever publicly indicated a willingness to perform one.

In July, Katie, who was raised a Catholic, admitted she had been studying Scientology.

The brunette beauty revealed she wanted to share the same faith as her twice-married fiancé.

She said: "Yes, I am taking classes and I'm really excited about it.

"I have looked into it myself and think it's really wonderful. I feel like I'm bettering myself."

Today's News (Tuesday, Nov 14)

- The wedding site is now confirmed as Castello Odescalchi on the shores of Lake Bracciano. The romantic medieval structure, with its library with frescoed ceiling and a loggia looking out on the lake, is located 25 miles north of Rome. Its museum, featuring frescos and ancient furnishings, is open to the public.

- Others who have married in the town of Bracciano include:

- US actors Tyrone Power and Linda Christian,

- Italian actress and former model Isabella Rosslini and US movie director Martin Scorsese,

- Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti married TV hostess and Swiss showgirl Michelle Hunziker in Bracciano, gathering a crowd of pop and TV stars, including Tina Turner and motorcycle racer Max Biaggi. The reception was held in the castle.

- When CNN journalist Christiane Amanpour married then-U.S. State Department spokesman and assistant of Madeleine Albright under US president Clinton James Rubin in August 1998, about 180 guests, including John F. Kennedy Jr., attended the reception at the Odescalchi Castle.

- Cruise's mother Mary Lee Pfeiffer is with him now in Italy.

- Airport officials said Holmes was also in Rome, but it wasn't immediately clear whether the actress was staying in the same hotel.

- As the soon-to-wed couple emerged from their hotel - Hotel Hassler - in a caravan of black SUVs and left for dinner, they set of a photog frenzy among paparazzi staged there. The hotel is located at the top of the Spanish Steps.

Cruise made his first public appearance since arriving in Rome to get married, and sat in the back of one of two dark vans with tinted windows that left the hotel surrounded by dozens of fans holding photos and cameras in hopes of getting a glimpse of the American actor only a few days before his weekend marriage to Katie Holmes. (AP Photo/Alessandra Tarantino)

- Holmes, who's getting an Armani gown for her wedding, recently went to Le Bra Lingerie in West Hollywood and spent more than $3,000 on lacy underthings, more than $1,000 of which was for a "Chantilly Lace bridal collection" set. Walls says the collection includes a $440 bra, $340 thong, a garter belt for $220, and silk stockings that went for $95 -- for a total of $1,190.

- Katie also chose a silk nightgown with a matching robe trimmed with ostrich feathers that set her back $620, a lace bra with Swarovski crystals for $380 and matching g-string with crystals for $175, as well as two sets of silk pyjamas and matching robes at $425 each.

- Oprah not invited to Cruise wedding: He jumped on her couch to show how excited he was about being in love with Katie Holmes, but Tom Cruise has not invited Oprah Winfrey to their wedding. Winfrey states that Cruise and Holmes "had a limited number of people that they could invite." She says "that's fine. I don't get invited to everyone's wedding." Winfrey says there are no hard feelings. She says she still plans on buying them a wedding present.

- David and Victoria Beckham are still trying to decide on the perfect present to give them, says a source. "It's pretty damn hard finding the ideal gift for Tom and Katie." Another item still up for consideration for Victoria Beckham – what to wear to the black-tie ceremony. The fashionable former Spice Girl is still choosing between six or seven outfits for the nuptials.

Italian town cashes in on Cruise-Holmes wedding

By Silvia Aloisi

BRACCIANO, Italy (Reuters) - From these prized perches overlooking the Castello Odescalchi, you probably won't see Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes say "I do" this weekend.

But that isn't stopping the owners of apartments outside this medieval lakeside castle near Rome from charging a small fortune -- up to 30,000 euros -- for whoever wants a glimpse of Odescalchi's medieval entryways.

The castle's normally sleepy town of Bracciano is cashing in on its moment in the spotlight ahead of this weekend's nuptials, even though the location of the Hollywood wedding has yet to be officially confirmed.

Tom, Katie and baby Suri, born in April, were caught on camera together for the first time since arriving in Italy when they were driven on Wednesday from the luxurious Hassler Hotel in central Rome to meet local dignitaries at the city hall.

Bracciano's mayor is charging reporters 1,000 euros ($1,279) for positions overlooking the castle and 300 euros to park a satellite truck.
"Whether he's getting married here or not, for us the event has already started. That's why we have asked for a small contribution to cover the extra costs and make sure everybody in Bracciano can enjoy this," Mayor Patrizia Riccioni told Reuters.

'TOM & KATIE' RISOTTO The town is clearly ready to put on a show -- raising more than fourfold the number of traffic police, planting fresh red and white flowers, repairing cobblestones and blocking parking on main avenues for teams of street cleaners.

They've hired portable toilets and set up parking outside the town, planning special shuttles that will run visitors to Bracciano's historic center.

"This is normally a quiet place, but right now it's crazy," said 77-year-old Mario Di Biagi, as helicopters full of paparazzi clattered over the castle.

The Trattoria del Castello on the main square facing the castle is luring tourists with its latest creation: "Tom & Katie Truffle and Mushroom Risotto." The restaurant boasts that it is "served in a basket of melting Parmesan cheese."

The restaurant, and the town outside, was swarming with foreign journalists getting settled ahead of the big event. Locals see it as the opportunity of a lifetime.

"For Bracciano this is great publicity. A lot of people will come here to see the lake and the castle and they will bring money to the town," said 83-year-old former construction worker Francesco Tamburini.

But not everybody is impressed. Some locals are shocked by the 2-million-euro ($2.56-million) price tag that Cruise and Holmes are rumored to be paying to hire the castle.

"I haven't seen any of Tom Cruise's films. For me he is just an American actor with loads of money. I mean, I hope they are going to be happy, but it would be good if a bit of all this money could be spent on more worthy causes too," said Aleandro Donati, a 69-year-old pensioner.

I'm in agreement with Aleandro Donati. :wavey:

Today's News (Wednesday, Nov 15)

- The mayor of Bracciano expects a request for a fireworks license for the night of the wedding.

- The couple has ordered 6,000 rose and coffee scented candles, from a local candler, to fill the castle.

- Brooke Shields has been invited to and will attend the wedding. Shields and Cruise's fiancée actress Katie Holmes soon became good friends after Holmes gave birth on the same day. Critics say Shields is being used to boost up Cruise's dented image but Shields will reportedly attend the wedding.

- The entire wedding is estmated to cost Cruise $9.4 million.

- The couple spent Tuesday night (14NOV06) dining with the ODESCALCHI family and friends at the Palazzo Odescalchi castle, where they'll wed at the weekend.

- Wednesday, the Hollywood couple visited City Hall in Rome, Italy, presumably putting the finishing touches to the legal aspects of their wedding.

- In Bracciano, Emidio Falcione, the owner of London Polo, a clothes shop, has gone as far as to dedicate four shop windows to Cruise and his bride.
In one window, "Maverick" is spelt out in giant letters in front of a Top Gun-style flight jacket. "The wedding will be great for business," he said. However, he admitted:"We haven't sold any more of the flight jackets than usual."

- It remains unclear how the 30 limousines planned to ferry guests, including David and Victoria Beckham, will negotiate the Via della Praterina, the tiny one-lane tunnel they must pass through to reach the castle.

- The dark blue jeeps of the Carabinieri military police have also arrived and the council expects to foot the bill for the extra ambulances, lavatories and staff required to cope with a wave of tourists who are expected to make the one-hour journey from Rome. However, it is doing its best to recoup its costs.

- The precise logistics of the wedding remain a mystery, although the Italian press has suggested that Cruise will follow Scientology's traditional ceremony and offer his bride "a pan, a comb and perhaps a cat". The bride, in turn, is told that "young men are free and may forget" their promises.

- Italian newspaper Il Messaggero reported that Cruise's representatives requested that officials impose a wedding-day flight ban over the castle to prevent paparazzi from taking to helicopters. The request was reportedly turned down.

- Katie Holmes' ex-boyfriend and former Dawson's Creek co-star Joshua Jackson missed out on an invitation. However, Jackson hasn't taken the snub personally and tells Fox News, "The invitation must have gotten lost in the mail. Maybe just the single friends were cut out".

- Stars head to Rome: Expected wedding guests, including Brooke Shields, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, boarded a private jet Wednesday at Burbank Airport. Other expected wedding attendees, Victoria and David Beckham, have a shorter distance to travel for the wedding .

- Days before he is to marry actress Katie Holmes in Italy, "Mission Impossible" star Tom Cruise is having trouble fitting into his wedding suit, a report said. Hours after the celebrity couple's wedding outfits from designer Giorgio Armani were delivered to the Roman hotel where they are staying, a report from the Italian news Web site TGcom said Cruise was too heavy to fit into his suit, the Daily Mail reported. The 44-year-old actor was "having trouble getting into his suit as he was slightly overweight," prompting worries about the couple's upcoming wedding on Saturday.

- What about the pre-nups? Life & Style Weekly reported that Holmes, 27, is set to receive three million dollars for every year for the first 11 years of the marriage, plus ownership of a California mansion, after which she will be entitled to half of 44-year-old Cruise’s fortune if they split up.

- The gossip mill also has it that Holmes would do well to avoid getting cold feet before marrying Cruise if she wants to be sure of maintaining custody of Suri.

- It will be Holmes’s first marriage and the third for Cruise, who was married between 1987 and 1990 to actress Mimi Rogers and from 1990 to 2001 to Australian film goddess Nicole Kidman, with whom he adopted two children, a girl, 13 and a boy, Connor, 11.

- Bracciano Mayor Patrizia Riccioni said that she expects the couple to arrive Saturday morning at the castle, which overlooks Lake Bracciano, for what she believed would be a Scientology wedding ceremony, followed by a banquet. She said she expected the couple to return to the Italian capital the same day.

- Bracciano's mayor said she had given the couple a small silver sculpture of the castle as a gift, and photographs posted on the town's Web site late Thursday showed it was engraved with the word Bracciano and Saturday's date. The congratulatory card that went with it read: "A sincere note in sign of gratitude from the city of Bracciano, for having chosen it as the place where to crown your dream of love." Riccioni said she would like to give them honorary citizenship "because they have brought so much to our little village." "When we met, they seemed to me to be far more normal people than what I believed. I think all this secrecy depends on them wanting to keep their marriage private and intimate," the mayor said, sparking laughter in the room filled with the journalists who have been trying for days to find clues about how the wedding will be held.

- Scientology ceremonies contain many elements of traditional weddings _ rings, procession, vows, etc. But they also include certain Scientology fundamentals, including vowing to never to go to bed without communicating about any differences. They also stress the Scientology tenet known as ARC - A for affinity, the closeness between a couple; R for reality, what a couple agrees on; C for communication, the exchange of ideas and thoughts.

- A spokesman for the Church of Scientology for Rome said they had not been contacted about the Cruise-Holmes wedding. Cruise belongs to the Church of Scientology. "If they're getting married with these rites, it won't be with a minister from the Rome church, so I would imagine that they would bring their own," spokesman Fabrizio D'Agostino said. D'Agostino said an exchange of vows with a Scientology rite was not legally recognized in Italy, and would have to be preceded or followed by a civil union.

- In the Italian capital, Cruise and Holmes held a dinner for a party of some 130 guests at a small restaurant near the Spanish Steps, drawing several hundred fans and curious people hoping to catch a glimpse of the stars. Cruise and Holmes arrived, waving and acknowledging throngs of cheering fans for the first time since their arrival. The area immediately surrounding Nino restaurant was cordoned off, and private security officials crowded the area. The restaurant owner's daughter, Francesca Luti, told TG Sky 24 news channel that Cruise was "a regular," and that the evening's menu included some of the actor's favorite dishes - gnocchi, several types of pasta, ravioli with truffles and artichokes. The couple and their guests were choosing from a menu featuring 12 dishes of mostly traditional Italian home-style cooking such as ravioli with meat sauce and artichokes prepared Roman-style. Those spotted going into the restaurant included "Mission Impossible III" director, J.J. Abrams, Brooke Shields and Jennifer Lopez. Lopez's husband, singer Marc Anthony, briefly stepped out to smoke a cigarette.

- Katie Holmes' parents arrived in the Italian capital on Thursday. They had been traveling with about a half dozen people, and were whisked away in a van that had been waiting outside Rome's small Ciampino airport. Cruise and Holmes, who have been staying at the Hassler hotel at the top of the Spanish Steps, met Holmes' parents at the nearby St. Regis Grand Hotel, where they stayed for about an hour before returning to the Hassler. "We are very excited for Tom and Katie," Martin Holmes, the bride's father, told Sky Italia television on arrival at the airport. His wife Kathleen declined to give any details about her 27-year-old daughter's wedding dress, which has been designed by Giorgio Armani.

- Jim Carrey, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony and Brooke Shields also arrived Thursday. Scientologists Jenna Elfman and Leah Remini have also arrived. Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith are also expected for the wedding. Tomorrow, David and Victoria Beckham and Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie will be among 500 guests at the wedding of the year. John Travolta - with wife Kelly Preston - was on his way in his private Boeing 747. The guest list also includes Steven Spielberg, Michael Douglas, Kirstie Alley, and J.J. Abrams (who directed Cruise in Mission Impossible III.

- YES, SURI ...THAT'S MY BABY: TOM CRUISE and Katie Holmes gave daughter Suri her grand premiere last night - just two days before they are due to marry. The Hollywood couple had not been seen in public with seven-month-old Suri since her birth although they have attended private parties.
Katie, 27, and Tom, 44, looked happy and relaxed as they appeared with Suri, seven months. Katie was in a white Armani dress and Tom wore a classic dark suit by the same designer, who has created Katie's wedding dress. Beside them were Tom's mother and his other children Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11, plus Katie's mum and dad. An onlooker said: "Tom cradled Suri and she looked lovely in a little white dress."

- Security has been tight with gag orders placed on the caterer and local police preparing to basically seal off the entire town on wedding day.

- Even while planning the wedding of the year, Tom Cruise had time to launch his new business relationship with United Artists this week, announcing he would star in Lions For Lambs, to be directed by Robert Redford, co-starring Meryl Streep and Redford. The project marks the first film under Cruise and partner Paula Wagner's new deal to relaunch UA. Meanwhile, Katie Holmes is supposedly reading scripts and trying to pick a new project, but won't be eligible for an Oscar for her work in Thank You For Smoking after she declined to be pushed by Fox Searchlight in the Best Supporting Actress category.

So much hoopla over a marriage that won't last!

I wonder... is she only marrying him because if she didn't she could lose her child? How is it that you never see her holding Suri only him?

Why would you put a baby in front of all those cameras?
That's just not smart or good parenting.

If John F. Kennedy Jr. at the height of his popularity could
get married w/o the press there, and have all his family
there, and still let us in on it after the fact...why does Tom
need to do this?

Just get married.

What happened to this guy?
From cool and a big star,
to weird and a big star.

OK, we know you're not gay.
All the signs are there.
You did good work to make sure we know that.
We get it.
I believe you.
Really, the baby is good proof.
Stop it. Just get married, be a movie star, and
be quiet about Scientology and pregnant women
and jumping on couches.

Could you tell that Scientology person that is with
Katie all the time to give her some room. That's creepy.

Suri is a beautiful baby. She is going to be gorgeous when she grows up. I'm still not understanding how Tom pulled that one off. Anyway, Katie looks very pretty and slim. Tom on the other hand looks like a short, fat pig.

So much hoopla over a marriage that won't last!

If we went by that criteria, no one should have any hoopla over their marriage because most of them won't last. :tape:

Tom's mother and his other children Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11

- The only celebrity guests who took quick strolls around the city on Friday were Carrey and Brook Shields.

- Tom's former girlfriend Penelope Cruz sent her blessing along with 100 white roses delivered to Tom and Katie's hotel suite. Tom's second ex-wife Nicole Kidman has sent a £2,000 vase as a gift and wished them "a lifetime of happiness". (Neither was invited to the wedding.)

- The civil ceremony is expected to take place in the morning Saturday, and the Scientology ceremony - which is not a legal wedding in Italy - will take place at 5:00 in the evening.

- Guards in antique costumes will escort Katie to the altar and have been ordered to have a "shave and if possible a sunlamp session" in a bizarre written request from the office of the owner of the castle, Princess Maria Pace Odescalchi.

- The £2million festivities will end with a spectacular fireworks display.

- Heavy rain is forecast.

- Red and white flags are now flying over Castle Odescalchi - the 15th-century venue for Saturday's Scientology ceremony, 60km outside Rome. The service will most likely take place in the magnificent Hall of The Caesars - the castle's biggest and most impressive salon, which offers a sweeping vista of Lake Bracciano. Road signs outside the town warn drivers that the centre of town is to be closed to traffic all day Saturday.

- Today, it is Bracciano which, in the words of its mayor -- who really ought to consider an alternative career in cinema publicity -- will be "the centre of the attention of the world". On Friday, council workers were installing crash barriers in the square below the castle to deal with an estimated 30,000 onlookers. Behind them, knots of thrilled schoolchildren were forming behind television reporters preparing to go live to New York, Paris and London. Supplies of bottled water and wine were being hauled up the 30m castle walls on ropes and taken in through the windows. As a helicopter circled the town, a gleaming people-carrier with darkened windows drove again and again through the narrow streets. In the window of the Caffe del Castello was a photograph of the happy couple with the legend: "Best wishes for your fairy tale." Down a side street the Ristor-arte trattoria was offering fans a Tom Cruise set lunch for €15. In the words of a letter sent by the council to the town's businesspeople, the wedding is an "unrepeatable promotional opportunity". At the Bar Roma, Daniela Venerucci said she had not seen any immediate benefit, "but we're hoping it'll bring more tourism in the future". Others took a more short-term view. By midday, the price of a camera position overlooking the castle had risen to €6 000. Grazia Cencini, who owns a nearby hairdressing salon, said all she hoped for was "that George Clooney has a hair out of place and needs to come in and get it fixed". A client who was having a blow dry said: "It's quite unbelievable that stars like that are coming here."

- By early afternoon, town workers began setting up barriers on the street leading to one of the castle's entrances. The historic town's narrow streets teemed with journalists and camera crews, while locals made their own preparations. "We are all participating a little in this wedding," said Simona Palazzini, a restaurant owner in the square next to the castle. "And we are quite happy to do so." At the Il Ristorantino dining spot Palazzini offered a "Top Gun" menu that included fettuccine with seafood called "Mission Impossible" and apple pie with cream and hot chocolate named after Suri, the couple's daughter. At the nearby Trattoria del Castello, guests could order a "Tom e Kat" -- a basket of parmesan cheese with truffles and mushrooms.

- So why did these wealthy Hollywood celebrities opt to come here for their wedding? Yesterday's Corriere della Sera newspaper put forward the theory that it was in Bracciano, during the filming of Mission Impossible 3, that Cruise and Holmes enjoyed what it delicately referred to as their "first night of love". This seems unlikely, as the filming started in July 2005, by which time they had already been engaged for a month. However, in view of the fact that their daughter was born nine months later, it could just have been here that they had a more than usually decisive night of love.

- Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes left the Hassler Hotel, where they have been staying in Rome, to take part in a reception Friday night at a villa on a hill overlooking the Italian capital.

- At the Hassler hotel - where Tom and Katie are reported to be staying in the luxury penthouse - bags from Armani have arrived, presumably bearing the couple's outfits. The celebrity couple booked the entire seventh floor of the posh hotel, where they noshed on melon and prosciutto, buffalo mozzarella and mineral water shortly after their arrival.

- The menu for the wedding banquet is being kept top secret but is expected to be provided by Tom's favourite Rome restaurant Dal Bolognese.

- Cruise and Holmes watchers predict the big Italian wedding is just a prelude to even bigger news. "She's rumored to already be pregnant again," said Meaghan Murphy, a reporter for Star magazine. "She was seen at Barney's just last week and she was sporting a bump."

- In the past two weeks, the couple has been seen at their son's football games, looking relaxed and enjoying the spotlight. "Tom was just totally happy to sign autographs, take pictures with everyone, say hello to all the cheerleaders," Murphy said. "He was just about as friendly as can be."

- David Beckham's leave of absence to attend film star Tom Cruise's showbusiness wedding appears to be a source of confusion for his employers Real Madrid. The former England captain, on the periphery of Real's squad so far this season, was expected by many observers to attend the wedding later today - and reports suggested he had been given permission to do so. His club have a league fixture against Racing Santander, but the midfielder is not fit to play because of a knee injury. Real coach Fabio Capello was not, however, planning to give Beckham special dispensation to join his pop-singer wife Victoria for the wedding near Rome rather than working on his fitness in Spain. Asked at a press conference about Beckham's whereabouts this weekend, Capello said: "David has to stay in Madrid to work." Capello also appeared unconcerned if that meant the 31-year-old player - linked recently with a move to America to continue his career - could not attend the celebrity event. "That's not my problem," he said.

Becks misses Cruise's wedding as club orders him back to Madrid
By Graham Brough

DAVID Beckham will miss Tom Cruise's Italian wedding today after being ordered back to Spain by Real Madrid.

Beckham flew into Rome with wife Victoria yesterday, sporting a Starsky and Hutch-style cardie. But he was due to jet out again this morning after his coach Fabio Capello said: "David has to stay in Madrid to work this weekend." Asked if that meant Becks, 31, would miss the showbiz wedding of the year, Capello tartly replied: "That's not my problem."

The coach hit out as club officials learned that Becks and Victoria, 32, had touched down at Rome's Ciampino airport for a pre-wedding dinner.

The former England captain, who is thought to have an injured knee, was not due to take part in Real's match tonight against Racing Santander.

But in what fans will see as a humiliation he must still return to Madrid for training at 11am today, and watch the match which kicks off at 7pm.

Only then will Becks be free to fly back to Italy to catch the last part of the reception at Cruise's glitzy wedding to Katie Holmes, 27, at Odescalchi Castle, 25 miles outside Rome.

Last night Beckham's spokesman insisted there was no clash between the striker and club officials.

He said: "David never thought he'd be able to attend the wedding. The original plan was for him to be playing and for Victoria's sister Louise to be with her at the wedding.

"If he'd been playing on Saturday he was potentially going to Italy after the game. He asked the club for permission to go after training yesterday."

A Real Madrid spokesman said: "David had permission to go to Italy on Friday.

"On Saturday he'll be in training. He'll also be at the match against Racing Santander, although he's injured and not in the starting line-up."

It is not the first time that Beckham, who is close friends with Cruise, has fallen foul of hardman Capello.

Two weeks ago he was fined for turning up late for training after meeting US Open tennis champion Maria Sharapova.

TODAY Katie Holmes becomes the third Mrs Tom Cruise. The bride, 27, and groom, 44, will tie the knot in a lavish ceremony presided over by a Church of Scientology minister in Bracciano, Italy. Not got an invite? Don't fret. Here's our A-Z guide to the showbiz wedding of the year...

A is for Giorgio Armani. The famous Italian couturier (below) has been busy with the old needle and thread. Not only has he designed Katie's wedding dress and Tom's morning suit, but he has also run up outfits for the rest of the bridal party.
The garments were taken to the couple's hotel earlier this week.

Tom was dismayed to find the waistband was a little tight because he'd piled on the pounds.

B is for the Beckhams - the bezzie mates of the bride and groom. Sadly, Posh will be at the wedding on her own after David was ordered back to Spain by his club Real Madrid.

B is also for opera star Andrea Bocelli. The blind Italian tenor will sing Ave Maria after Katie specially requested it - an attempt to appease her Catholic folks, no doubt.

C is for "cat and comb" - two bizarre offerings that Tom will pledge to provide for Katie during their marriage. A Scientology minister reads: "Girls need clothes and food, tender happiness and frills, a pan, a comb, a cat." Yes, but what about a credit card?

D is for daddy and discord. Martin and Kathleen Holmes were reportedly unhappy about their daughter's choice of boyfriend. Katie's dad, a divorce lawyer, is said to have clashed with "controlfreak" Cruise.

And, as a practising Catholic, said that he would not at tend a Scientology wedding.

E is for the Eiffel Tower. Paris is the city for lovers and it was at its famous landmark, on June 17, 2005, that Tom told the world that he and Katie were engaged after a whirlwind seven-week romance.

F is for favours. Wedding guests will each take away a pair of £550 Chrome Hearts sunglasses after a £100,000 order was placed at London store Mallon & Taub.
F is also for flowers. The sleepy Italian town of Bracciano has spruced itself up for the big day by planting lots of red and white blooms.

G is for George Lucas. The Star Wars director (right ) offered the couple the use of his super-secret Italian hideaway if they wanted to elude the press for their nuptials.

H is for helicopters. They will be allowed to buzz over Odescalchi Castle, where the couple will wed, after their request for a no-fly zone was refused.
H is also for Hassler - the luxurious hotel where Tom and Katie have been staying in the run-up to their wedding. They have reserved the seventh-floor £2,500-a-night penthouse suite. Cruise always stays in these rooms when he visits Rome.

I is for Isabella, 13, and Connor, 11 (Tom's adopted kids with Nicole Kidman). They flew to Rome on Monday with their granny, Mary Lee.

J is for John Travolta, Jennifer Lopez (below) and Jada Pinkett- Smith (wife of Will Smith) who jetted into Rome's Ciampino airport on Thursday ready for the big day.

Guests also include Brooke Shields, who has patched things up with Tom after he criticised her for taking anti - depressants.

K is for Chris Klein (right) - Katie's ex-fiance, who will definitely not be among the wedding guests. The pair were engaged for five years before Katie decided the American Pie star wasn't to her taste after all. Soon afterwards, she began dating Tom.

L is for limousines. Cruise has hired a fleet of these luxury cars to whisk his A-list guests the 37 miles from Rome to the wedding venue.

M is for money-minded Mayor Patrizia Riccioni (below), who is charging the media £675 for positions overlooking the wedding venue and £200 to park a satellite truck.

She said: "While we welcome the wedding it's not fair the citizens of Bracciano should pay for these costs. We've had to bring in extra staff and extra security."

N is for No.3. Katie will be Tom's third wife. He first got hitched to actress Mimi Rogers (right) in 1987 - they split three years later. Second time down the aisle was with Nicole Kidman (below). They married in 1990 and separated just shy of their 10th wedding anniversary.

N is also for Nino's, where more than 100 people gathered for a pre-wedding dinner. Owner Anna Guaranacci said: "Tom rang personally and asked us to prepare a menu including a big beef steak for him and similar for the guests."

O is for the ivy-clad Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano - the magnificent wedding venue which boasts six towers, spectacular gardens and its own chapel. It is owned by Princess Maria Pace Odescalchi and has been in her family for 500 years. Mayor Riccioni has confirmed that the authorities have been asked to restrict traffic at the entrance of the building today.

P is for perfume. Katie will waft down the aisle in a cloud of Clive Christian No.1 scent. It comes in a diamond and crystal flask and costs £1,245 an ounce. Phew!

Q is for queues. Not of the A-list wedding guests - who will be ushered straight into the castle by security - but the crowds lining the town's streets in the hope of catching a glimpse of a few famous faces.

R is for rose-and-coffee-scented candles. Cruise has ordered 6,000 of these fragrant decorations for inside Odescalchi Castle.
R is also for red-tape. Officials say the couple have not done all the necessary paperwork for an Italian wedding. But their representatives insist otherwise. Our legal eagle reckons as long as they have signed a "nulla osta" - a document certifying there is no legal impediment to their wedding - it can go ahead.

S is for Scientology. Tom's aides have confirmed that the service will be conducted by a Church of Scientology minister flown in from the US for the day. A civil ceremony is also expected to take place because the Scientology service is not recognised in Italy.
S is also for Suri, their seven-month-old daughter.

T is for toilets. The town of Bracciano has hired dozens of portaloos to cater for today's expected mass influx of TV crews and celebrity-spotters. It will also lay on special shuttle buses to run visitors into its historic centre.

U is for underwear. During a shopping trip in LA, Katie splashed out £2,000 on sexy undies to wow Tom on their wedding night. At a West Hollywood store called La Bra Lingerie, she bought the Chantilly Lace Bridal collection of silk stockings, a black suspender belt, a £400 silk nightie trimmed with ostrich feathers, and a lace bra studded with crystals.

V is for Walter Veltroni, the Mayor of Rome. He asked Tom and Katie - together with baby Suri, Tom's kids Isabella and Conor and the Holmes family - to dinner at City Hall on Wednesday. It prompted a flurry of speculation that the couple were getting a wedding licence, but officials claimed it was just a courtesy call.

W is for Oprah Winfrey. It was on her show that Tom famously declared he was crazy about Katie by jumping all over the furniture in a bizarre display of public affection.

Strangely, the chat-show queen has not been invited to the nuptials. Oprah (right) said: "It's not that I'm not going. It's that they had a limited number of people that they could invite.

"I was not one of the invitees. That's fine. I don't get invited to everyone's wedding.

"I have a great deal of respect for their relationship and so I'm trying to think of what to get them. What do you give Tom Cruise?"

X is for extra help. Tom has reportedly flown in 60 members of his staff to help prepare for today's wedding. Expect to see a battalion of security, too.

Y is for yummy cocktails. Guests are expected to quaff Bellinis made from delicious Italian sparkling wine Prosecco. Cheers!

Z is for zabaglione - a traditional Italian dessert made from raw eggs and Marsala wine. Tom and Katie have ordered it as part of their wedding breakfast. They have also hired the Del Bolognese restaurant in Rome to feed their guests. Also on the menu is mozzarella and parma ham, followed by pasta with a meat or fish sauce, then a choice of beef or fish. And if you don't like zabaglione, there's tiramisu.

Tom & Katie's Armani Wedding: Who Wore What

From the moment they arrived in Rome to the moment they left for their honeymoon, Giorgio Armani was the man behind everything that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes wore throughout the week.

And when it came to designing Katie's bridal gown, Armani tells PEOPLE exclusively that he wanted the dress to match Holmes's personality.

"Katie wanted a simple, elegant dress that was rich in material with a slim silhouette," he says. "I couldn't have been more in agreement. I wanted to make it modern but at the same time, complement the sweetness and energy she conveys."

The result? An off-the-shoulder Armani gown with an ivory silk train adorned in Valenciennes lace and Swarovski beaded crystal embroidery. She accessorized her gown with an ivory tulle floor-length veil and ivory silk shoes.

As for Cruise, Armani outfitted him with a navy blue tuxedo from the Giorgio Armani Hand Made to Measure collection. The jacket label read, "Giorgio Armani for Tom Cruise."

Armani also dressed the rest of Cruise & Holmes's family. Here are all the details:

• Holmes's mom, Kathleen, put on a Giorgio Armani Privé evening dress in rose silk; Her neckline was trimmed with tulle and black embroidery.

• Holmes's sister and bridesmaid, Nancy Holmes, wore a black charmeuse, silk-layered evening dress, with an empire waist and floor-length skirt. Her off-the-shoulder neckline was made of black lace.

• Cruise's mother Mary Lee Cruise wore a silver silk Giorgio Armani Privé evening dress with rose appliqué detail at the waist and shoulders.

• Cruise's sister Cass Cruise wore a deep blue velvet suit with a fitted jacket featuring black taffeta plisse details at the waist.

Cruise's kids, Connor and Isabella, also wore Armani during the week. In addition to her satin pale pink dress worn earlier in the week, Isabella wore a sleeveless, ice-colored dress for the rehearsal dinner. Connor, meanwhile, matched his dad, dressing in a navy blue single-breasted suit.

Finally, there's Suri. For the wedding, Tom & Katie's 7-month-old daughter wore various layers of organza and chiffon, which, according to Armani, was "inspired by her mother's bridal grown."

Cruise, Holmes Depart Rome for Maldives Honeymoon After Exchanging Vows in 15th-Century Castle

BRACCIANO, Italy Nov 19, 2006 (AP)— Officially, they got married in Los Angeles, but the spectacle of the wedding between Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes was here, in a 15th-century castle that evoked fairy tales and lit up with red, white and green fireworks for a cheering, celebrity-laden crowd.
There were fireworks inside, too, a "never-ending kiss" between the betrothed after they exchanged vows Saturday. The kiss lasted so long it caused guests to shout "stop, stop!" said Giorgio Armani, who attended the wedding and designed the outfits of the bride, the groom and their baby, Suri.

The couple flew out of Rome Sunday for a honeymoon in the Maldives, said Ciampino airport spokesman Adriano Franceschetti. The rest of the wedding party was due to fly to Los Angeles later in the day.

The ceremony was a lavish apex to perhaps the celebrity world's most closely watched relationship, proclaimed with Cruise's leap on Oprah Winfrey's couch, bestowed with the nickname "TomKat" and raised to a new level seven months ago when Holmes gave birth to their daughter.

The evening wedding was performed by a Scientology minister in front of more than 150 relatives and friends, the couple's publicists said.

Oil-fed torches and tiny candles flickered from the battlements and windows of the Odescalchi castle in this lakeside town as the couple and guests gathered for the ceremony in the town about 45 kilometers (27 miles) northwest of Rome. Suri, dressed in white, arrived in her mother's arms.

The wedding party included Cruise's two children, Isabella and Connor, from the superstar actor's previous marriage to Nicole Kidman, the publicists said in a statement. The best man was Cruise's best friend David Miscavige and the matron of honor was Holmes' sister Nancy Blaylock.

Holmes wore a black dress and boots before she changed into Armani's off-the-shoulder ivory silk gown. Her father, Martin Holmes, walked her down the aisle and she carried a bouquet of flowers made by Armani including calla lilies.

Cruise, who sported dark shades and waved to fans as he rode through the castle gates in a van, wore a single breasted navy blue Armani handmade suit for the wedding, with an ivory silk French collar shirt of the same fabric as the bride's gown.

Armani told The Associated Press that Cruise, then Holmes, walked down a stone ramp lined with flag bearers in medieval costumes and to the roll of drums.

They exchanged vows in a former stable decorated simply with white flowers.

"For the Americans this was very special, because Americans do not have this kind of thing back home, and they dream of such things in our beautiful country, and you can see the surprise and the awe on their faces," said Armani, who also designed the clothes of the rest of the wedding party and the couple's immediate family.

Italian singer Andrea Bocelli serenaded the couple at the reception and the bride and groom cut a five-tiered white chocolate wedding cake. Fireworks later burst above the castle, but the view was marred by a foggy night.

Other famous guests included Brooke Shields, Richard Gere, Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey and Victoria Beckham, wife of soccer star David Beckham and former Posh Spice of the Spice Girls.

The two stars arrived separately to the castle earlier Saturday, with pouring rain forcing Holmes and her daughter to take shelter under large, green umbrellas as they left their limousine. The sun was shining on the castle when Cruise arrived in a van from Rome, where the family had been staying in a luxury hotel near the Spanish Steps, with some fans shouting, "Tom, Tom!"
When the groom drove up, Holmes watched from a castle window and anxiously gestured with her hand.

Holmes was giving Cruise a Vacheron Constantin watch engraved simply, "I Love You," as a wedding gift, the company said. It said she bought the gift in Los Angeles last week.

As the sun began to set, candles were placed in pots along the road to the castle and in some of the windows. Men wearing tuxedos and women holding up the hems of their long gowns walked up the steep path to the castle.

Security was tight, with Carabinieri paramilitary police patrolling the walls of the castle and all vehicles banned from the center of Bracciano.

The flag of the Odescalchi family, whose ancestors include Benedetto Odescalchi, the 17th century pope Innocent XI, fluttered over the castle's towers.

"When I first walked here, I didn't know why they chose this place," said Emily Roeder, 19, an American who came to Bracciano for the day from Florence, where she is studying. "Then I saw the castle and the streets all around, and it's really romantic."

Hundreds of the town's 14,000 residents and fans of the stars braved intermittent rain to catch a glimpse of the arrivals.

"I want to see at least one of them even if it's not Tom Cruise," said 15-year-old Erica Bandiera.

"I want to see Beckham's wife," said her friend Luca Costanzi, 15, with a huge grin.

There was even a bit of stargazing on at least one Seville-to-Rome flight when the pilot pointed out to passengers the castle where the wedding was taking place.

Scientology ceremonies contain many elements of traditional weddings, including rings and vows. But they also include certain Scientology fundamentals, including vowing never to go to bed without communicating about any differences.

A spokesman for the Church of Scientology for Rome, Fabrizio D'Agostino, said an exchange of vows with a Scientology rite was not legally recognized in Italy, and would have to be preceded or followed by a civil union.

The publicists said Cruise and Holmes had "officialized their marriage in Los Angeles prior to their departure for Italy," saying that was customary for couples marrying outside the United States. Cruise's publicist Arnold Robinson wrote in response to an e-mailed question about whether that meant they had been married in a civil ceremony that "the required steps were taken for the marriage to be legal."

Holmes and Cruise became engaged in June 2005, about two months after they went public with their relationship, kissing and posing for photographers in Rome. Their daughter was born April 18.

Much of the attention given to Cruise since their relationship began has been negative. He was mocked for the couch-jumping episode, criticized for his comments about Shields' use of prescription drugs to treat postpartum depression and questioned about his embrace of Scientology, the religion founded by science-fiction writer L. Ron Hubbard that holds an opposition to psychiatry and related medication among its tenets.

Cruise, star of the "Mission: Impossible" series and "War of the Worlds," was divorced from Kidman in 2001, was previously married to Mimi Rogers and had a high-profile romance with Penelope Cruz. Holmes, who starred in TV's "Dawson's Creek," and last year in "Batman Begins," had been engaged to Chris Klein.

Tom & Katie to have post-wedding party

NEW YORK - Newlyweds Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes will celebrate their nuptials with a post-wedding party in Los Angeles this weekend. A reception/cocktail party will be held Saturday at the home of Hollywood power couple Paula Wagner, who is Cruise's producing partner, and Rick Nicita, the actor's agent, Arnold Robinson, a spokesman for Cruise, told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Cruise, 44, and Holmes, 27, were married Nov. 18 in Bracciano, Italy. Afterward, they flew to the Maldives for a two-week honeymoon.

The party is "for friends (who) were not able to attend the wedding in Italy," Robinson said.

Cruise and Holmes are the parents of a 7-month-old daughter, Suri.

Last month, MGM announced that Cruise and Wagner would be in charge of the United Artists movie studio. They were cut loose from a 14-year producing deal with Paramount Pictures in August.

Sumner Redstone, chairman of Paramount parent company Viacom Inc., had blamed Cruise's antics over his romance with Holmes (jumping on talk-show host Oprah Winfrey's couch, for example) and his Scientology preaching for undermining box-office returns on the actor's "Mission: Impossible III."
