And a little (good) news from her oaffish-al site:

Reprise positive! : 30/10/2006

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Positive Recovery! :
30/10/2006

Amélie trained twice today and did not feel any pain with the shoulder.
The world number one found the way of the drive. She had not played since her victory against S. Stosur with the second round of the tournament of Zurich and her withdrawal from the following round. Amélie: “I must remain careful because even if if today I did not feel any pain at the time of my two drives, I will go up in intensity in my play progressively with the week." Amélie will take the way of Madrid next Saturday to dispute Masters there.

Mauresmo fit to defend WTA Championships title

Wed Nov 1, 2006 7:41 PM GMThttp://i.today.reuters.co.uk/images/spacer.gif

PARIS, Nov 1 (Reuters) - World number one Amelie Mauresmo confirmed she would defend her WTA Championships title next week in Madrid after recovering from a shoulder injury.
Mauresmo, facing a struggle to end the year as number one, was sidelined for 10 days after pulling out of the Zurich Open with an inflamed shoulder last month.
"I resumed playing in training on Monday and physically, I feel fine," Mauresmo told a news conference in Paris.
"I'm a bit short of practice and I'm not sure I'll be able to serve at 100 percent but I'll be fresher than the other girls."
The Frenchwoman said she would travel to Madrid on Saturday and train there for the season-ending event for the top eight players in the WTA Tour race, which will start on Tuesday.
The athletic 27-year-old has had a great year, winning her first two grand slams titles at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
She has been hampered by injuries over the past few weeks, however, and could be overtaken by either Russia's Maria Sharapova or Justine Henin-Hardenne of Belgium for the year-end number one spot.
"I've got a tiny chance (of finishing the year at number one)," she said. "That would be the icing on the cake after a great year but I'm not counting on it too much."

I was kind of hoping that Hingis would be in Sharapovas group so she could do Amélie a favour. It's a tall order but Amélie can do it - we may as well forget about the world no.1 status but we'll take all the big prizes she can win over that any day!

I really hope Amélie is not going to seriously injure herself playing this event. I don't understand... she said her shoulder is fine, and that she was just out of match-practice

She had 65% of first serves in, the serve didn't look too bad
Her baseline shots, on the other hand, did

Ceze
Nov 8th, 2006, 01:13 PM
yesterday the commentators said she was serving 20 km/h below her normal speed

graciewx
Nov 8th, 2006, 03:50 PM
I didn't find her shoulder problem bothering her. Her spin was also good as usual. But speed and angle......it's like she suddenly lost her killer strokes. And did you guys see how Nadia attack her backhand consecutively? Ame made a lot of forced errors because of that. I guess Ame should think more about her strategy for the next match. Allez!

She usually would get some cheap points off her serve but they weren't as effective yesterday

Anyway, if she's that injured, she should rest. If not, hope these matches would be good practice for her (though technically yesterday's match was more like a void ;tape: )

Amélie I don't know how you did it today with Justine bombarding you with so many incredible winners but you hung tough and sweetest of all you now pit the two who want to steal you're no.1 ranking against each other LOL! Did any of you see how smug Justine looked during that tough 9th game in the second set where she kept smiling up to her support camp just waiting for Amélie to crack. Incidentally I noticed her do the same thing in the Wimby finals in the last game but each time Amélie wiped that smug look off her face!

I noticed a similar attitude to Wimby, too. She just kind of relaxes when she leads, as if she's sure she's going to win in the end. But then our brave Amélie doesn't let her... serving her best at key moments  :hearts:

How fit is this woman we support?????? My god she was playing incredible rally after incredible rally with the great Kim Clijsters and she looked like she was just strolling through the park. Not a hint of tiredness after her 3rd 3 setter in a row! One more match in 2006 and it ain't gonna get any easier - Justine AGAIN so just give it your all one more time Amélie - you've more than fulfilled any of our expectations at this championships so just shatter them please by taking the title. You deserve this!!!!

I see it this way, it was a miracle she played the final already after that unspeakable start... plus she had the toughest group without Dementieva who always loses all three matches at YEC :tape:

It was great to see how much she's been wanting to play this final, and how much she tried to go for the title in such hard physical conditions.

Justine was probably also tired of losing to Amélie, and probably anger was that little additional factor that pumped her up....

Looking forward to 2007 :bounce: (Amé said she is, too ;) )
