20 aces!

That has to be up there as one of the most aces done by a woman in a single match!

Actually... does anyone know the most aces done by a woman in a single match?

Well that seems to end Jankovic's chance to end the year in the top 10.

Nicole looks like she wants it.
20 Aces and 55 winners oh my.

Wow Jelena, just amazing. After playing non-stop since August she still finds herself only a few points from beating Vaidisova! :worship: I guess she would crush Vaidisova if she was fully rested and in form :D

But still, Nicole did great to close out Jelena :)

not a good outcome but it was a good match. what a magnificent serve that girl has.
i hope jelena starts working on her physical strength over the winter because that's where the game is heading. if she wants to be top 5 (top 10 is almost guaranteed by Roland Garros) she'll have to strike the ball harder.

Well done Nicole.

20 aces

She hit 55 winners to 56 UEs; I think that sums up her overall performance. It was a little streaky but overall she managed to string together enough good points to win against a wiltering Jankovic.

(Jelena hit 30 winners to 35 UEs, btw)

Good fight, Jelena. I'm impressed she actually managed to keep it up for so much of the match.

Well done, Nicole. She's really been growing on me after recent matches. If anyone was giving out an award for funniest/cutest facial expressions, I'd think she'd probably win

Actually Jelena is pretty much guaranteed a top 10 seed and ranking by the Australian Open if she wins at Quebec City.

:woohoo: Nicole.
But why does she always have to be in the same half of the draw as Jelena.
And when Kim's playing - all three of my favourite players are always in the same half and play each other far too early IMO.

Evil prevails.

It sure seems Nicole is doing her darndest to join Lena D. at the top of the list of players who consistently provide nailbiting matches.

Strange how Nicole was outplayed throughout the first set yet was still in a position to win it. Jankovic very nearly folded near the end of the second set, which would have been a shame considering how well she had been playing, but recovered her wits managed to drag it into the TB. Nicole wasted several decisive points by going for too much, but that's just her style - she doesn't hold back.

Nicole is serving like she did on the Great Philadelphia Rock Fight (SF vs Mauresmo, 2005), and I lost count of the times her serve got her out of trouble. But the rest of her game, though still erratic at times, was a massive improvement from her previous matches at Moscow and the horror show at Zürich.

Maybe Jankovic let Nicole boss her around a bit too much, but when Jankovic takes the initiative she also increases the chances of handing over the points with errors, so I don't think there was much she could have done. Her own serving wasn't as bad as I expected, and that helped make the match even tighter. She was understandably tired on the final set, but I don't feel she tanked it.

did Jankovic hold any MPs?

No, she didn't.

But Nicole wasted several SPs on the first set, and several on the second before the TB.
