Stosur? Zheng? Sugiyama? Hantuchova?!!

If we're gonna classify someone as being "good" in singles and dubs, shouldn't they have "good" results all round?

Out of those, I'd only classify Hingis, Kuznetsova and Petrova as being "good". Add Davenport, the Williams' and Clijsters to the list as well.

So you wouldn't classify someone who has been ranked as high as 5 and has won a Tier I title, and just last week made the finals in another one, and has made numerous slam quarter-finals a "good" player? :o :smash:
And what about Mauresmo?

It all depends on your definition of good, apparently.

Veritas clearly does not see Top 50 players as 'good' players, whereas I think being Top 50 in both singles and doubles is really good

Lindsay has been ranked number 1 in both forms of the game at the same time. WOW...so she can be added

Venus and Serena have won every slam in doubles (6 total), both have two mixed doubles slam titles, and a gold medal in dubs. Not bad. Not to mention they've only lost 15 doubles matches their entire careers.

Sharapova won the Birmingham singles and doubles title (with Makiri) in 2004. :worship: ....doesn't mean she's good at doubles though!

what is the definition of "good" being used here? because judging by some of the names mentioned, the definition seems to be pretty loose. the standards seem to have been extended to "decent" :p

kim's done the same as well 2. so we can add both of them on the list. being no.1 in singles & doubles at the same time is by means not an easy feat 2 achieve.

my evaluation of the level of girls who r good at both singles & doubles r that u have 2 be in the top 10 in at least one (singles or doubles) & won a few titles in both aspects.

Has Grandslam in Singles and Doubles

It was in 2003 and if I remember good she's the only wowen who has never did it.
It's a pity that her health doesn't allow her to play doubles and singles as she did before.

Look at the singles ranking and you get the answere
Henin is better in doubles than Raymond. She's just not interested in this thing.

Hey, no disrespect intended, but I think if we're gonna start classifying players, then there has to be some consistency - like gurl_tennis pointed out.

Daniela's talented and I think if she didn't have that anorexic issue holding her back, she could've done a lot more. But putting her (and Sugiyama and Zheng and Stosur) in the same category as players like Hingis AND classify her along the same lines seems a bit too sweet IMO. The whole point about singling people out is to show who's exceptional. Hingis, the Williams', Davenport, etc., are on an entirely different level.

And what about Maurasemo? As far as I know, her doubles record is nothing compared to her singles, so she's not as versatile as the other girls listed

Are you serious?!!

There's more chance that Lisa will beat Henin in a doubles match than the other way around - and it doesn't matter who they're paired up with.

among the active players (playing both singles and doubles), i think hingis is a great doubles players.
i remember they ask the bryan brothers this year, who they think is a good double player in the women side, they name hingis.
serena is a good at double too, but i am not pretty sure cause she usually partners with venus. with the combination, it is obvious it is one of the top pairs.
among the good double players playing singles too would be mary pierce, kuzzie...cant think of more now.

anyway i would love venus and hingis to partner once :D i love william sisters rivalry with hingis :D

The only player who were ranked nymber in singles and doubles and take note "at the same time"

They all won doubles slam with different partners so that is a proof that they were the one who carries their partner.

Martina Navratilova
Arantza Sanchez Vicario
Martina Hingis
Lindsay Davenport
Kim Clijsters
