Former world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport has been added to the 2006 Mercantile Tennis Challenge, completing the field.

Tennis Challenge officials said yesterday that Davenport, ranked No. 18, will play mixed doubles with Mike Bryan against Bob Bryan and Martina Navratilova.

The Challenge is scheduled for Dec. 6 at 1st Mariner Arena.

Already set to play are the Bryans, the world No. 1 doubles team and Navratilova, who with Bob Bryan won the U.S. Open mixed doubles title - the 59th title, and the last Grand Slam title of her career, before announcing her retirement from competitive tennis.

Mardy Fish, the Athens Olympic tennis silver medalist, and Robby Ginepri, a rising American, are confirmed for the featured singles match.

"We are excited to be showcasing such an exciting group of both young and veteran players," tournament chairman and founder Pam Shriver said. "From top to bottom, this may be the most talented group of players we have assembled for one night."

Over the years, the tournament has raised more than $4 million for children's charities through the Baltimore Community Foundation. Tickets, ranging from $20 to $100, are available at the 1st Mariner box office, all Ticketmaster outlets, via Ticketmaster Phone Charge at 410-547-7328 or online at www.tennischallenge.org (http://www.tennischallenge.org/). Additional ticket and sponsorship information can be obtained by calling the tournament office at 410-296-2929.

Navratilova just can't leave the game no matter what. She must really not have a life outside of tennis.

I think Lindsay is also playing at Virginia Commonwealth University, held on Dec 8th. James, Steffi and Agassi will all be there.

Ah with the offseason fast approaching it's time for charity events.

Lindsay usually plays one or two charity events a year anyways. I believe the Balitmore event is run by Pam Shriver so it's no surprise she's playing there. :)

Lindsay does not play for money alone comparing to other top players.

So, Lindsay yaps about the long season, refuses to play half of it, then shows up to play multiple events in the off-season.

Maybe she'll also play the McDonald's Tour.

She's played this exhibition the past few years. It's shown on tv. I remember watching it Thanksgiving day when she played Sharapova.

Oh well...i guess she likes to play events like this where no pressure is on her.
