They were really dominated by the Russians this year. Interesting that Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne and Clijsters didn't win a Tier I.

Three of the top 4(yes I am counting Kim) in the world didn't win a Tier 1 and they won 3 out of the 4 slams and only 2 out of the 7 Tier 1's(Kuznetsova, Sharapova) winners even made a Grand Slam semis. Shows how overrated Tier 1 tournaments are although I think Ivanovic was inducted into the tennis hall of fame after winning the Tier 1 in Montreal.

My conclusions:
Woman's tennis is better than man's :hearts: :hearts: :rocker2:For the last couple of years, I agree. On the mens side, you've got Federer who is beating everyone; on the womens side, you've got at least 6-8 different players who can contend for slams. (Sharapova, Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters, Kuznetsova, Hingis, Williams sisters)

Sharapova: 3/1
Petrova: 2/1
Hingis: 1/2
Dementieva: 1/1
Kuzy: 1/0
Chaky: 1/0
Ivanovic: 1/0
Schnyder: 0/1
Clijsters: 0/1
Henin: 0/1
Hantu: 0/1
Safina: 0/1

The most surprising is that Mauresmo & Henin reached so few finals, despite kicking ass at the Grand Slams and being #1 and #2 for most of the year.

Exactly.

I'm sure that if there was a poll asking "How many appearences has Mauresmo or Henin in Tier 1 finals this year?", the answer was totally different.

Hingis has made the Qtr Finals or better in EVERY Tier I, except Miami, so she solidates her good form in the Tier Is again :p

no wonder why russian tennis is becoming a dominant force. 8 out of 10 winners Russian  that's just amazing.

it does strike a bit odd that amelie, justine & kim didn't win a Tier I title this year especially amelie who didn't even reach a final.

if you include the slams in this list it gives you better picture.
and i would count a slam at least twice as much as a tier one.
Historicly even way more.

Belgians in only two finals and no title. That's pretty unusual
